Is Mike Brown doing a better job with the Lakers than Phil Jackson did?

Please only compare last season to this season.

I didn't think anyone could really fill Jackson's shoes but the Lakers seem to playing better than last season with an arguably less talented team. What do you think?

I'm only comparing last season to this season. I was thinking that because that's the only fair comparison to make. Anything from previous seasons is too far in the past to compare imho.

Why? "Cleave" is a word. Look it up. "Cleave-land" is my description of SBR.

Mike Brown is a good coach. Molded by Popovich. He's doing a great job with a lessor LA team. He'll have them playing defense by the time the playoffs come around. They're my pick to win it all this year. Mike Brown will get a few rings shortly.

So Phil Jackson winning the NBA title two of the previous three seasons is too far in the past? Way to be biased.

Phil Jackson won 5 rings with the Lakers and you think Mike Brown is doing a better job after 13 games???

EDIT: Way to Back track and only compare last season to this season. If I recall, the Lakers did make it to the second round where they got knocked out by the eventual champions.

But....if you really want to compare last year to this year, Mike Brown IS NOT doing a better job. The Lakers were 11-2 after 13 games last year. This year they are 9-4.

Likewise, they finished second in the West last year.

    Great thread.....

That's not necessarily fair. You're not taking into account things like strength of schedule, the condensed schedule this season, the shortened preseason, Bynum's suspension, and the Lakers' roster is probably worse than last year.

You're not comparing apples to apples because of the things mentioned above (with the possible exception of strength of schedule).

BTW, I wasn't backtracking, I just didn't make myself completely clear in the original post.

Lakers basketball IQ is way down this year. Brown's strategy is the same he had in Cleveland. Depend on the superstar. He couldn't win with Lebron, and he won't win with Kobe.

No. He will not win a title, just like he didn't with Lebron.

20 games in and this thread is still dumb.

    Lakers are 11-9.

Phil Jackson has as many World Championships as Mike Brown has wins.

LB - have you seen his bench? I don't even know who the hell some of these guys are? They don't even have role players. These guys are horrible. How did they get so many awful players? Look at this shit? McRoberts may turn out to be a good 6th or 7th man but the rest of these guys are garbage, including Ron Artest crazy ass.

The starters are doing their part but this bench is shit. The starters are always in the + efficiency but this bench is always in the - negative... They need to make a trade for several role players. I don't think Dwight Howard is the answer. Get a PG and 2 or 3 quality role players. That's their problem. The front office should be ashamed with this shit cast of characters. This bench might as well be in the Dleague.

Yeah the bench sucks but its not like gasol and bynum do anything in the paint on the road. They are rebuilding around bynum.

Gasol and Bynum will get it together. I think they are getting use to Mike Brown's offense (that's if he really has one) and should be alright. It's that pathetic bench that's the problem. Kobe's playing too many minutes. So is Gasol and Bynum. That's the real problem. Cut their minutes and they're more effective but you can't with that horrible bench. Where the hell did they get these bench players from? I'm totally shocked by the ineptness of that bench. It has to be the worst in the NBA.

The bench is not that terrible.

Blake is out, he's there best point guard.
Metta gets a ton of hate but the guy is still an elite defender and people that have been watching the games know he is having a much better year then last year, but it doesnt always show on the stat sheet.
Murphy and Kapano are sharp shooters, just struggling to find there shot.
Mcroberts is a great energy guy, tough defender.
Its no coincedence they started losing once steve blake went down

The problem is more the lack of point guard, unwillingness to feed pau and bynum, and like i said there guys who have been career sharp shooters just arent hitting. What they really need to do is bring in arenas for a workout, supposed to be in great shape and motivated.

Honestly this season is a waist. There is ZERO practice time. The only way teams can improve is during games. I bet the players regret not having the deal done earlier. This question really isn't fair. I'm a Lakers fan and Mike Brown has done NOTHING. But what can he do? There is no time to practice. This team is not utilizing the two big men and they are trying to learn a new offense on the fly. This season has been shit.

LOL. This thread cracks me up. 10 games into the season some guy was wondering if Mike Brown was doing better job than Phil Jackson.

The irony of this thread was at the time, Phil Jackson had more NBA championships than Brown did wins as Lakers head coach.

Not a fair comparison at all. Very different teams, different offensive system, disgruntled Gasol. The only thing Brown really had in his favour was a healthy Bynum. You really can't make a meaningful comparison of the two teams.
