Are you worried about reports the Maccas don't have good race pace on the long runs?

I expected Button to be longer priced, if that was true. So maybe it's not as certain as some media have made out.

He'll need to be every bit as great as his biggest fans think to drag any evolution of last years Merc onto the podium, let alone win it, imho.

But I'd love to see it.

Actually what I would love to see more is Maldonado or Bottas pull the surprise.

I'd be betting with Shaun on Button if I wasn't so suspicious they could turn out to be too slow over multiple laps with these new 'made to wear out fast' tyres.

Red Bull struggled for rear end grip in Melbourne last year.

Or maybe I'm looking for an excuse not to take the short odds on the obvious favourite

Did you see Lotus' Ridley Scott season launch vid?

    First bet for Cup

    Carl Edwards +1200 1u

Edwards has won 2 of the 5 races here since the track's re-config in 2007. (KyleB, Jimmie and Stewart won the other 3)

He qualifies 65% better than his career average here, and 75% better over the last 5 years.

He finishes 55% better than career average here.

Las Vegas is the Roush teams 2nd best track all time after Michigan. (their 3rd best comes up next race btw)

    He won last week.

I was listening for first half of race. Did not hear the feeding of bullshit, but really liked the way they kept telling him if he was catching cars in front or getting away from cars behind. Seemed to help keep Marcos focussed I think. Whole team sounds like they have finally swapped in a professional crew compared to the last 2 years!

Another shitty week in paradise. 3 losers in a row so far.

Two legs of the 21/1 parlay got up... just needed Danica to beat Rickie to save the day.

It def gives the impression of an improvement. I was disappointed though by how much faster the 43 seemed in the race. I hope he can consistently be the fastest car in that team this year.

Some big names behind Marcos in the points. Its very early, but long may it continue!

Don't stress too much, you will get on a run. GP this weekend will help.

    For Jenson Button backers.

There is some really interesting info from Craig Scarborough about the McLaren car setup from 24mins to 26mins

Basically saying that new design of suspension makes performing setup changes take a loooooong time.

The first pair you might have seen before but forget. (or maybe not)

The last 2 pairs are 3 new guys on the grid this year, plus Pic.

Van Der garde paid for his seat and has never been better than midfield in lower tier series. He's not F1 material basically.

Bianchi is a Ferrari protege they expect could be big one day.

I guess Matt has gone for Di Resta over Sutil as Sutil has had a year out of a seat mostly, and Di Resta is pretty good as well.

I like all of them, but the Pic over Van DerGarde the most I think.

Opti has summed it up well mike.

All 3 matchups are mid to back of the grid drivers, nothing enticing at the pointy end at this stage imo.

Pic was just 1/10th faster than Van Der Garde in first practice.

Bianchi was a second faster than Chilton.

Sutil blew everyone away besting bother McLarens and his team mate by over 6/10ths

Just got in in time for 2nd session about to start.

If you get the chance tail Matt's Bianchi over Chilton pick for whatever you can afford.

He's consistently a full second faster. Without a mechanical issue for Bianchi, Chilton does not appear to have a snow flakes chance in hell in that one.

Although I guess there is some chance they are constantly on different fuel loads/tyres Nah, not for 2 full sessions...

Not that abnormal for a couple to go off first session. New tires, updated cars and new season they need to test the limits I guess.

    I don't have a book offering H2Hs yet.

Weird, as B365 has about 10 other bet types running.

Hey fellas. Big day at the track today, went out for dinner afterwards and only got just got home now.

Only bet that is worrying me, and Opti has already alluded to, is DiResta/Stutil. I expected Sutil to be the one that looked rusty, but DiResta looked quite raged and uncomfortable during the sessions, and even had an off in practice 2. Still, the race could be completely different.

As regards to track side observations, only one car stood out from the rest. And that is Red Bull. Specifically Vettel. He looked visibly faster than any other driver and also looked the smoothest. The rest of the other potential contenders all showed flashes of speed at times, just like testing. Lotus, Ferrari. Mercedes all looked strong, but no where near Red Bull.

On the other end of the spectrum was McLaren. They didn't look that slow, but they didnt look that fast either. And definitely not front runners. Both drivers have fairly smooth driving styles, but you could still see them trying to force the car to do things it just didnt want to do. Speed entering an exiting the corners was also a lot less then anything Red Bull was able to produce.

At this stage, after just one day, I would say Red Bull ahead with Ferrari/Lotus/Merc slightly off the pace and McLaren coming in behind them.

The chance of a safety car at Albert Park is 57%, although there have been safety cars in four of the last five years. The average number of safety car interventions for the race is 1.7 (in 2006 there were four).
