The Cowboys never seemed to indicate they had serious plans to have Rolando McClain rejoin the team after his 10-game suspension expired on Monday November 21. It seems they have good reason. The enigmatic linebacker has had an additional suspension levied by the NFL, this time for a full year. It appears the player who retired twice before joining the Cowboys in 2014 is on the express shuttle out of the league due to substance abuse problems. The latest incident is him apparently missing a mandatory drug test from the league.

there now are doubts he ever will get to play again in the NFL after recently missing yet another drug test, NFL sources told ESPN.

Over the summer, the embattled linebacker was placed on the Cowboys’ Did Not Report list after missing the flight to training camp with the team to Oxnard, CA. McClain was suspended 10 games by the league for another violation of the substance abuse program. It was reported McClain was abusing a codeine-based drink known as Lean, Sizzurp or Purple Drank.

The mix, which originated in the southern part of the United States, already claimed the career of former first-round pick Jamarcus Russell.

McClain’s previous violations were thought to be positive marijuana tests based on his movement through the league punishment guidelines.

“He’s abusing a codeine-based drug called Purple Drank . . . it also is ingested constantly and victims of using this often gain lots and lots of weight. That’s exactly what’s happening in McClain’s case, where he’s gained approximately 40 pounds.”

“According to one source, he said it’s almost impossible to see Rolando McClain playing for the Dallas Cowboys again.” – Bleacher Report
