BOSTON -- The Mavericks and other teams have been meeting with representatives of the NBA players association over the last few days.

Players were told at the meeting that the outlook is good for a new labor agreement with the league, but, as always, they should be diligent about saving for the proverbial rainy day. After all, upsets happen all the time.

"Things look like they're moving along," said Devin Harris, who is the Mavericks' player representative. "We're pleased with the direction we're going, especially compared to where we've come from."

That doesn't mean it's a slam-dunk that a new labor agreement between the players' union and the NBA will be reached. But the threat of a work stoppage seems to be minimal at this point.

NBAPA executive director Michele Roberts led the meeting with the Mavericks on Tuesday. Several other union representatives were present.

The current labor contract was signed in 2011 and runs through 2021. However, if either side wants out of the agreement, they can terminate the deal after this season, provided they inform the other side by Dec. 15.
