there are some bad ones in the casino, that's true as far as i can see.but,if i have change in my racebook account,say,$.90.not enough for a horse play,i go to sci-fi slots.a $.05 game where the max bet is $.45 per spin.i'm looking to win a $.10 profit or better to try a nother stab at a horse bet.i pull it off most times.

    WEDNESDAY JANUARY 19, 2011

Apprentice jockey Kristina McManigell was taken to the hospital after her mount, High Fly Amore, broke down and fell while leading a field of $7,500 claimers at Parx Racing Jan. 17.

McManigell, 21, a native of West Salem, Ill., and a graduate of Chris McCarron’s North American Riding Academy in Lexington, was transported to Aria Health Hospital in northeast Philadelphia after lying motionless on the track.

High Fly Amore, a 4-year-old High Fly filly owned by Ruben Valdes and trained by Victor Collazo, was euthanized after the fall. The third betting choice in the six-furlong test for fillies and mares, High Fly Amore had taken the lead in upper stretch and began to edge away when she broke down, sending McManigell headfirst to the track.

“When I got to her, she was moaning and didn’t know her name,” said her agent, Joe Pagliei. Pagliei said McManigell was undergoing an MRI and several tests the evening of Jan. 17, but it appeared she escaped without any broken bones. “She’s pretty body-sore, especially her neck, and they’re going to keep her for observation,” he said. “She’s mad that she won’t be able to ride (Jan. 18).”

On Jan. 18, the agent reported McManigell has a hairline fracture of the C-6 cervical vertebrae.

    THURSDAY JANUARY 20, 2011

The group planning a racetrack, casino, and resort in northeastern Ohio said Jan. 18 “everything will fall into place,” but a presentation made during a press conference indicated the project has a long way to go.

Mahoning Valley Downs & Resort, planned by Mahoning Valley Development Group, would cost about $300 million to build. It would feature Thoroughbred racing on a one-mile track, a hotel, live entertainment facility, restaurants, and retail shops, as well as video lottery terminals should they be implemented at Ohio racetracks.

The group clarified it has only options on about 200 acres, the location of which it will not yet identify, and options for hundreds more. It does not yet own the land. The project was officially announced in a Jan. 17 release. The group wouldn't identify the project's financial backers but said three "SEC companies" are on board and will comment when appropriate. The developers said they plan to pursue a racing license from the Ohio State Racing Commission.

Currently there are seven tracks in Ohio; the proposed track near Youngstown would be about 50 miles from the closest ones near Cleveland: Thistledown and Northfield Park, a harness track.

Sam Houston Race Park offers a solid opening weekend highlighted by Texas Champions Day on Saturday. With the support of the Texas Thoroughbred Association, Texas Champions Day showcases Texas-bred racehorses in seven stakes races with purses of $400,000. Last year Texas Champions Day was held in December and native Texan Bret Calhoun was dominant, winning three of the stakes on the premier night of racing. Calhoun won two Breeders' Cup events last November at Churchill Downs, and will send out CHIEF OF AFFAIRS (Yonaguska) for a title defense in the $50,000 Spirit of Texas S. The bay colt will make his first start since running fourth in the Aristides S. (G3) on May 29 at Churchill Downs, following which he underwent surgery to repair a chip in his ankle in June. The five-year-old has shown a series of promising works, beginning last month at Fair Grounds. One other star on the Texas Champions Day card is another Calhoun trainee, multiple stakes winner TAPTAM (Pleasant Tap). She will take on the boys in the $100,000 Star of Texas S. The talented mare was just named 2010 Texas Horse of the Year by the Texas Thoroughbred Association and will be making her 32nd lifetime start in the 1 1/16-mile test. Taptam won the 2008 Martanza S. at Sam Houston and was the post time favorite in the 2009 Star of Texas, finishing a disappointing ninth. Her connections still believed in the chestnut mare, though, and shipped her to Oaklawn Park. She won two in a row, before running second to 2010 Horse of the Year, Zenyatta, in the Apple Blossom (G1). Post time for Texas Champions Day is 7 p.m. (CST) with 10 races on the evening card. The seven stakes include the $50,000 Bara Lass S., $50,000 Groovy S., $50,000 San Jacinto S., $50,000 Spirit of Texas S., $50,000 Yellow Rose S., $100,000 Star of Texas S. and the $50,000 Richard King S. The 2011 Thoroughbred meet continues through March 7, with post times set for Friday and Saturday (7 p.m.), Sunday (5 p.m.) and Monday (1:20 p.m.). Zenyatta to visit Bernardini

Owners Jerry and Ann Moss revealed Wednesday that 2010 Horse of the Year ZENYATTA (Street Cry [Ire]) will be sent to Bernardini to be bred in 2011.

Zenyatta is currently boarded at Lane's End Farm near Versailles, Kentucky. The superstar mare took up residence at the farm following the conclusion of her racing career in the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1).

While on track, the dark bay seven-year-old banked $7,304,580 in career earnings to become the richest North American distaffer in history. She racked up 19 wins from 20 starts, and 13 of those wins were in Grade 1s. Zenyatta's only loss came as she was attempting a title defense in the Breeders' Cup Classic on November 6

On January 17, Zenyatta was honored as the 2010 Horse of the Year, as well as picking up her third straight Eclipse Award for champion older female

Bernardini earned an Eclipse of his own when named the champion three-year-old colt in 2006. A son of Lane's End's two-time leading sire A.P. Indy, the bay captured that year's Preakness S. (G1), Travers S. (G1), Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1), Jim Dandy S. (G2) and Withers S. (G3), as well as placing in the Breeders' Cup Classic.

In 2010, with his first crop to race, Bernardini was the leading freshman sire by number of graded stakes winners and by number of stakes winners. Among his offspring thus far are Remsen S. (G2) and Nashua S. (G2) hero To Honor and Serve; Frizette S. (G1) queen A Z Warrior; and Biondetti, victor of last year's Gran Criterium (Ity-G1).

Bernardini is out of Grade 1 winner Cara Rafaela (Quiet American), who earned Broodmare of the Year status in 2006, and stands at Darley for a fee of $75,000.

Uncle Mo, last year’s champion 2-year-old male and undefeated winner of the Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (gr. I), received the high weight assignment of 128 pounds on the 2010 Experimental Free Handicap, according to The Jockey Club.

The EFH is available within the Publications and Resources section at The Jockey Club's website.

The filly division is headed by last year’s champion 2-year-old filly and undefeated Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) winner Awesome Feather at 123 pounds.

The Experimental Free Handicap, published annually by The Jockey Club since 1935, is a weight-based assessment of the previous year’s leading 2-year-olds, with the weights compiled for a hypothetical race at 1 1/16 miles on dirt. This year’s weighting committee of racing secretaries was composed of Ben Huffman of Churchill Downs, P.J. Campo of the New York Racing Association, and Thomas S. Robbins of the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club.

The committee weighted a total of 99 males and 92 fillies. Eligible for weighting were all 2-year-olds of 2010 that finished among the top four in graded or listed stakes races run in the continental United States. Listed stakes in 2010 were those with a value of $75,000 or more available to all starters, and no restrictions other than age or sex.

The withdrawal of Boys At Tosconova leaves a wide open field of nine sophomores to contest the $400,000 Holy Bull Stakes (gr. III) at Gulfstream Park Jan. 30, the first major step toward the Florida Derby (gr. I) this spring.

The race, a one-turn mile, is the 10th on the Gulfstream card with a 5:26 p.m. EST starting time. It is part of a program that includes the $200,000 Forward Gal Stakes (gr. II) for 3-year-old fillies, part of a big stakes weekend at the south Florida track.

Boys at Tosconova, expected to be the favorite in the the Holy Bull, was withdrawn a day before the Jan. 27 draw due to trainer Rick Dutrow Jr.'s concerns about the colt's readiness. But what remains is a solid field that includes stakes-tested colts such as Mucho Macho Man, Gourmet Dinner, and Major Gain, as well as some highly anticipated newcomers, led by Dialed In and the fast-improving Black N Beauty.

Of those mentioned, only Ahmed Zayat's Black N Beauty, an Ontario-bred son of Devil His Due that cost just $2,500 as a 2009 Keeneland September yearling, has raced during the young Gulfstream meet.Black N Beauty won impressively Jan. 7 in a first-level allowance at one mile by 2 1/2 lengths while leading all the way under Kent Desormeaux for his second straight win. The smallish dark bay/brown colt broke his maiden as a heavy favorite at Churchill Downs last November, which was his third start.

    Monday January 31, 2011

This is the final day for posts in this thread. Tomorrow there will be a February 2011 Thread.

Oaklawn Park track announcer Terry Wallace stepped away from the microphone for the fifth race Jan. 28, ending a streak of calling 20,191 consecutive races at the Arkansas track. Wallace relinquished his duties and turned the microphone over to Frank Mirahmadi and enjoyed his very first Oaklawn race among the fans on the apron.

The race was won by Heavenly Prize. Wallace, who has been track announcer for 37 years, was back in the announcer’s booth for the sixth race. Mirahmadi, who currently calls the Northern California fair circuit and is an analyst for TVG, has been retained as Oaklawn’s backup announcer for the 2011 season and was in town to familiarize himself with the facility. He previously served as track announcer at Hialeah Park and Louisiana Downs.

“For 37 years and counting I’ve had the best job in the world, calling races at Oaklawn Park,” said Wallace. “I’m very comfortable in knowing that my record isn’t going to be broken any time soon, so I’m thinking it might be fun to experience the track I love so much from a different perspective. With that said, I don’t plan on going anywhere for a while, but it is nice knowing I can step out of the booth from time to time.”

A lot to be excited about moving forward to the derby trail.Uncle Mo has gained tons of competition during his winter hiatus.Dialed In probably will get the most press being his win was in the Holy Bull.He is indeed one to watch from off the pace.On the front end Runflatout's race might be more impressive than The Factor final time.Being it came after they slowed the track down.Machen was really powerful splitting horses through the smallest of holes at Fairgrounds even if it was against subpar animals. There is no telling how much Boys At Toscanova has developed if any at all.We still have a ways to go but its looking like a quality group of 20 are gonna be running the first Saturday in May.
