jackpot pick 6 and the economics of takeout and idiotic tax rules

Do these wagers have the inverse effect of paying out greater with favorites in general on your tickets because everyone is trying to get the sole bomb ticket winner? Or is this just especially pronounced on big race days (where you'll need good handicapping anyway)?

In general I must say $.10 and $.20 bother me, because it diminishes capping for pooling of money or sheer guessing for big prices. It's like having a limited raise in poker where it's not that costly to stay in --- people will pay to see one more card every time, thus the skill factor diminishes.

Now, I think $2 for a pick 6 overly favors the conglomerates, just because it's so many races and the fields on big days can yield a crazy number of combos.

All in all, if I were a racetrack, looking out for my handle and the bettors, I would make WPS a 10% vig like sports, exactas, trifectas and superfectas the same or nominally more (12-13% if you had to compromise), and all multirace [except pick 6] wagers $.50 mins with the same or up to 15% take. I would make a pick 6 a $1 minimum wager.

The added action and handle with those prices would probably increase revenues.

Oh yeah, one more thing, do away with having to report gambling winnings as income. You're already getting taxed on the front end, so I never understood why you get double whammied, on the back end with state and Fed. The 300-1 rule is totally retarded, don't even know where they got that from, it's a waste of time. Just recently I hit a $2 trifecta that paid $612. That required a 15 minute paperwork session to collect $600 which is nothing in this day and age. What's more, I hit a $50 WPS bet earlier for almost $900 --- they just handed me the $900. Isn't that stupid? The flow of money was inhibited and time was wasted for everyone. As if they're even gonna have people looking at IRS submissions for $600? What a crock of dookie.

If you do have to have forced withholding, just make it the homeland security amount like at casinos, $10k. I can't believe they haven't fixed this totally archaic and stupid 300-1 rule yet.

Funny thing is, if they you would have bet the trifecta as $.50 trifectas, you wouldn't have had to pay the tax!

Funny thing is, if you would have had bet the trifecta as four $.50 tri's, you would not have had to pay the tax!

^ True, not at a machine, usually that reminds me, busy day at the OTB, I hear you --- but it's also the proof of how stupid the system is. Not only are they not gonna check, so I don't care (someone else cashed it anyway), the tickets theoretically can be acquired as you say, and the spirit of their stupidity is also lost
