The Big Showdown: Caps at Chicago.

What we liking here boys. Should be a score-a-thon yous think?? Lousy goaltending. Tons of offense.

I know a lot of us thought high scoring when the Caps played the Wings. The under hit in that 1. Detriot can play solid D still on occasion.

Whats the over-under open at?? 6.5 no doubt. Can't see these 2 playing a 2-1 game.

    Thoughts??

I like the 1st period over and probably the game over as well. Hopefully things go as planned and it's not a 2-1 final

Very strange but true. I have bet a lot of early NBC sunday showdown games. Ones that come to mind that easily went over PIT/WAS, PIT/PHI, DET/CHI etc. Seems to be a ton of goals and powerplays. The refs must be told to call everything to create a high scoring, exciting game for TV

think the hawks and caps hit 7 at least. both t t's at 3..maybe even 3.5.

if philly and chicago had 70+ shots today...what the hell caps and hawks gonna get tomorrow??

    123!!

anyone know the record for most shots in a game not including extra time??

hmmmmm, I never would have considered the game being shown on nbc as being influential but of course everything makes a difference. It makes sense that a second tier sport in the US such as hockey be a shootout to be as entertaining as possible. A 0-0 game going into the third isn't creating much excitement for the channel surfer.

I was thinking the Under was the play but after reading this it's either Over or no play.

oh and I would assume a number like 110 would probably be the most shots in a game not including OT.

Most Shots, Both Teams, One Game 141-New York Americans, Pittsburgh Pirates, Dec 26, 1925, NY Americans-73, Pittsburgh-68.

I know it's 1925 so they could have been counting dump-ins as shots on goal (stuff like that happened back in those days)

What if Theodore and Niemi bring their A-game and the final score is 2-1, 3-2, or something like that. Both teams have been really inconsistent on offense since the break. This is one of those games I don't want to touch with a ten foot pole.

The most exciting game of the day between two of the most exciting teams in hockey, coming to you live in HD on NBC in the dreary morning hours of a spring-forward Sunday.

And you are NOT gambling on this game?

Just kidding, your point about offensive volatility is well taken. On Friday 3/12 the Lightning beat the Caps at Washington, which cost the chalk players severely.

However this is just my style of game and will have to pull the trigger on the Blackhawks. I also like the over but 6.5 is too high, I have never bet an over above 6 and not starting today. Much easier to take a shot at the Blackhawks. I like playing hockey teams coming off a loss in back-to-back games. I don't have a trend statistic for that situation, but I like the angle, having a team that is "warmed up". The Blackhawks wanted that win yesterday against the Flyers and they will be playing their best hockey today against the Capitals. The Capitals are in danger of slumping here as we approach playoffs and they go on a 4 game road cruise. They were so hot in January, but will be cooling off in March no doubt. The near-even -115/-105 juice at most shops I consider to be unfair to the Blackhawks on home ice.

    GL to all

Definitely a first period over, and probably over 6.5 as well. You have to figure each team will light the lamp at least 3 times in regulation, right? Plus I'm going with Washington ML and taking advantage of the +odds.

Caps aren't playing that well. Losing outright to the Stars and Lightning and needing OT to beat the Hurricanes. All 3 of those games at home in the last week or so. They're just a 19-16 road team. Give me the 26-9 home team at a near pick 'em vs a slightly above .500 road team that is currently having trouble winning at home vs non playoff teams.

I'm on the 1st period over in this one and if I had to choose a side I like Chicago. They are a ridiculous 12-1-2 on back to backs including 6-1-2 coming off a loss on a back to back.

Line was 7 overnight, 6½ right now. Caps can score 3 goals alone in a single period.
My call is Hawks 4-3 or 5-3.

Crazy first period. Ovie booted that doesnt bode well for the over and cant see the Caps winning this one now. Got chippy at the end too, should be an entertaining final 40

It was Campbell he hit Jets. It was definitely questionable. Those hits around 6 feet from the boards are super dangerous and usually end badly. I dont think he should have been booted but Ovie has to have more respect for his opponents and ease up there when the other guys in a vulnerable spot.

He'll end up getting suspended again...looked similar to Lapierre on Nichol. But how the hell is that a major penalty when you can smash a guy in the head when he's unsuspecting and not even get a minor penalty??

Those head shots are going to be called now, the league is just figuring it out. In the Bettman era, the league's original position has to be defended and defended because them being right is more important then the game or the players. Now, after it is painfully obvious that they need to be called (after having cost Florida a shot at the playoffs and probably now the Bruins as well) the league will adjust their stance to what 99% of people that watch the game would have done to begin with. Matt Cooke is a dirtbag and this should be about his 10 suspension.
