Feb 25 - The Daily Breakdown

    YTD 30-24 +12.60u
    NHL 16-12 (+8.20u)
    NBA 10-9 (+4.25u)
    NFL 4-3 (+0.15u)

Big 2u win with Carolina spanking the Senators. Sens are now a dreadful 2-14 on the road against Carolina. Clippers had a 13 point 1st quarter which set them back all game and they came close to rallying but couldn't close it. Moving on.

Washington Capitals vs. Nashville Predators // Feb 24

    Afternoon puck drop

The Washington Capitals (41-12-7) head south to take on the Nashville Predators (29-22-9) on Saturday evening. The Caps are right where they have been all season: at the top of the Eastern Conference. The Preds on the other hand hold onto the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference but are tied with St. Louis Blue for the third spot in the Central Division.

The highest office in all the land

The Caps have typically been a strong regular season team that flames out in the postseason. This year however, they seem to be on a completely different level when compared to the other teams in the East. They are seven points above the second-placed Pittsburgh Penguins and their goal differential is just as ridiculous, +73.

In their last 10 games they are 8-1-1 and are coming off back-to-back wins. Their play on the road has been their weakest part of their game, but even that is well above league average (16-7-6). Their offence is second in scoring (3.3 goals per game) and their defence gives up the fewest goals (2.1). And if their opponents thought that they would be able to pick apart the Caps on special teams, think again. They are 5th in power play conversion and 6th in the league on the penalty kill.

    Keeping pace on the prowl

The Preds have been good but not great this season, which is why they find themselves battling for position. They are 5-4-1 in their past 10 games and consistency has been their biggest issue.

Even though they are coming off a victory over the Colorado Avalanche, the Preds haven’t won back-to-back games in a month. They do however have a secret weapon: Filip Forsberg. Forsberg has scored hat tricks in back to back games! To put that into perspective, Forsberg has scored six goals in his last two games while the Avalanche have scored seven in their last five. If he stays hot, holding onto a playoff spot shouldn’t be an issue for the Preds.

The Preds are 17-7-7 at home and may have caught the Caps at the best time. The Caps are coming off a victory at home against the Oilers last night, and by the time the puck drops this evening, they will of had approximately 16 hours to recuperate (and travel to Nashville). Perhaps the Preds can finally string a couple wins together.

    The Final Breakdown

The Capitals squeaked out a 2-1 win over the Oilers last night and are now heading to Nashville for the back end of a back to back. Washington has only won one of their last 4 games in Nashville and are 5-9 on back to backs dating back to late last season. Loving this play. Second 3u play this week. The window for 3u plays is a very small one as we are nearing the part of the season where trends and stats are thrown out the window and teams polarize towards the top / bottom of the standings. Lets get it.

    Nashville Predators (-110) 3u
