Shark attack! Get on San Jose -1.5 (+160) hosting Detroit tonight

We popped a nice ticket last night as Texas finally realized they have some talent and took over the 2nd half of the game in Oklahoma State. Sloppy game, I don't think Texas is very good and I will be staying away from them versus any really good teams. Regardless, nice 9 unit uptick in the roll let's keep rollin along.

Tonight we head out once again to San Jose for some NHL hockey. My bias lately is first to look at the scorching Washington Capitals, but with Green out and with the way they gave up those 2 quick goals the other night towards the end of the game I'm going to wait until he comes back (and probably until they are at home as well).

Boy, those Red Wings teams were someting in the past weren't they? Nick Lidstrom in his prime dominating play, Chris Chelios, Stevie Y, basically they were unstoppable for such a long time. If you wanted any chance at competing for the cup you had better be willing to take on the Wings when the chips were on the table and more often than not as we all know that ended the season of that unfortunate team.

That's the past tough, and this Wings team in no way resembles one of those.

They are a little bit above average, and that's about it. After getting off to a horrid start this year they have gotten a spark from rookie goaltender Jimmy Howard and have played better, currently tied for the last playoff spot in the West. Here's a disturbing stat though - 142 goals for, 147 against? How do they still have a record of 26-19-10? I have no idea (must be win by 1 goal specialists and just not show up some games), but I can tell you that this is not a great team.

Let's talk about the San Jose Sharks. Currently leading the NHL with 81 points, pick your poison when playing them as they have outstanding records both home and away. Road teams face a Sharks team that is 19-4-7 at home this year and the games more often than not are not close. In their last 10 games the Sharks are 8-0-2 overall. Just one of those wins was within one goal. That means in their last 10 the result has been the Sharks outscoring their opponent by 2 or more goals 7 times. In their last 7 home contests they have destroyed their opponents by a disgusting ratio of 30-14. See were I'm going with this?

Detroit's not bad on the road, posting a respectable 11-11-6 record away from home ice. San Jose, however, excluding a game vs Chicago in which they didn't come out ready to play, is on fire at home, and it's too much for the Wings to overcome tonight.

    Let's check out special teams.

San Jose is outstanding on both ends, as their power play converts 22.9% good enough for 3rd in the NHL, and they make killing off penalties an art as their NHL leading penalty killing unit kills off penalties at a remarkable 87.3%.

Detroit's special teams just aren't very good as their power play borders on anemic lighting the lamp just 17.6% of the time good enough for only 20th in the NHL and their penalty killing unit succeeds just 81.2% of the time good enough for just 17th in the league.

It's a shark attack tonight in the tank fellas. The waters will be red and San Jose will keep cruising at home.

Let's hit an oh so sexy +160 price giving the 1.5 goals.

As always best of luck today fellas, take it down.

Well when you think about it 26-19-10 really isn't a very good record and is really 26-29 so the more goals given up than goals scored is about right.
