I stand firm in my belief as long as Bettman is heading the NHL, NO CANADIAN TEAM WILL WIN THE CUP.
    Boston on the series bet.
The public and hockey lovers alike, will HAMMER Vancouver, and give Boston excellent value in games, and the series. This Stanley Cup final is going to make us some good change!!!!!

Thank you. Good luck to us indeed.
Boston. And it's not because they are the better team, although in my opinion, they do in fact hold the edge in net, as I think Thomas is playing with a passion I have not seen in quite some time....I'll break it down further in a minute....

I used to feel the same way....but for me it comes down to economics. I look at what would be most profitable for the NHL. While all of Vancouver, and Canada for that matter- will be cheering on the Canucks, this amounts to roughly 37 Million people cheering for or betting on vancouver. And that's honestly being very generous, as we all know that 37 Million Canadians are NOT going to go out and buy Canucks shirts, especially in the cities that have teams. So, subtract 5 million for Toronto, 3.6 Million for Montreal, 1 million from Edmonton (not even 1 million, but again, rounding), 1 million for Calgary and another 1 million for Ottawa. That leaves roughly 25 million canadians spending cash to watch, or support vancouver in some capacity.... Of that 25 Million, many are immigrants and people who have no desire or passion to watch or endorse the NHL in anyway, so I'm going to take another 5 million people out of the equation... that gives me roughly 20 million viewers, and of those viewers, I'm guessing half (again being conservative) wont have any vested or endorsed interest in the cup finals. So we have roughly 10 million Canadians spending some kind of money that will be re-directed to the NHL in some form or another.
(just for the record- the van/sjs series had an estimated viewer-ship of 4 million canadians - i'm totally giving us Canadians an overvalued #)

Now, we look at the good ol' "you ess of frikkin Eh".

Boston is the 10th largest market in the USA. (#7 for TV ratings) roughly 14 million people (new england area) and I know Bostonians are VERY passionate about ALL their sports teams, and I KNOW that more than HALF of these will be buying jerseys, and supporting the NHL in some capacity. Not to mention the Bruins are an Original 6 team that has a solid following, both in the USA and here in Canada.....so, I'm going to take a conservative estimate on the American population that will follow these cup finals..and say that about 10% of the ENTIRE American population will in some way endorse or contribute cash towards the NHL, either by buying jerseys, game tickets, etc.....so, 10% of 360 million gives us roughly 36 Million Americans who will in some way support or endorse the NHL....

10 Million Canadians spending lets say $100 per is $1,000,000,000 in marketing, sales, licensing and other revenue. (not all going to the NHL, but they do get their chunk)

36 Million Americans spending roughly $100 per, is $3,600,000,000 in marketing, sales, licensing and other revenue (again, not all going to the NHL, but again, a much higher chunk of change)

assuming the NHL eats up 15% of all that revenue - it's pretty clear that Boston is the team that gives them a higher amount of income.

Now this is not a definitive and confirmed #, just a rough projection (my own of course) of monetary gain for the NHL, so in the grand scheme of making money, and growing profits, it makes more sense financially for the NHL to have the Original 6 Bruins win their first Cup since 1971/72.

Which leads me now to the actual break down of the series itself:

    - Boston won the only meeting of the 2 teams this year, by a score of 3-1. IN VANCOUVER.
    - The teams have played 108 times. Boston leads all time head to head meeting: 68-24-15(ties)-1(otl)
    - Tim Thomas has NOT LOST AGAINST VANCOUVER he is lifetime: 3-0 vs the Bruins. Has stopped 97 of 98 shots faced against the Canucks, has a GAA of 0.33 and a .990 sv& against the Canucks.
    - Luongo is 11-10-3 all time vs Boston
    - NO Goalie has won the cup wearing the #1 jersey since Bernie Parent in 1975. Luongo wears #1.
    - 9 Goalies who have won the cup wore either #30 or #31
    - Boston is 0 for 5 since their last cup win, in cup appearances
    - vancouver is 0 for 2 in cup finals
    - vancouver has not not a cup in it's 40 years. (this being the 40th)
    - Boston has not lost in OT this playoffs (3-0)
    - canucks are 3-2 in OT these playoffs
    - Luongo is 8-1 lifetime in game 1's and the canucks have won game 1, 7 times in a row
    - bruins have lost 2 of 3 game 1's this post season
    - Thomas had 9 Shutouts this year (reg season)
    - Luongo had 4 (reg season)

    Top Playoff performers:
    Vancouver:
Henrik Sedin: Two goals, 19 assists (21 points)
Ryan Kesler: Seven goals, 11 assists (18 points)
Daniel Sedin: Eight goals, eight assists (16 points)
Alex Burrows: Seven goals, seven assists (14 points)
Christian Ehrhoff: Two goals, nine assists (11 points)

    Top playoff performers:
    Boston:
David Krejci: 10 goals, seven assists (17 points)
Nathan Horton: Eight goals, nine assists (17 points)
Patrice Bergeron: Four goals, 11 assists (15 points)
Brad Marchand: Six goals, six assists (12 points)
Michael Ryder: Five goals, six assists (11 points)

    Playoff Hit Leader:
    vancouver:
    Maxim Lapierre: 63 hits
    Kevin Bieksa: 62 hits
    Ryan Kesler: 56 hits

    top playoff hit leaders:
    Boston:
    Milan Lucic: 43 hits
    Zdeno Chara: 40 hits
    Dennis Seidenberg: 39 hits

    canucks pp: 28.3%
    bruins pp: 18.2%
    canucks PK: 80.6%
    boston PK: 79.4%

Bruins have traveled app. 660 Miles during the playoffs ( montreal, philly, tampa)
cancuks have traveled app. 2000 miles (chicago, nashville, san jose)

    Interesting notes:

Both teams from Canada that have hosted the Olympics, have won the Cup the following year.
(after 76' olympics in Montreal- Habs win cup in 77, after 88 olympics in calgary, 89 the Flames won the cup)

Bruins have 2 players with stanley cups on the active roster.
canucks would have 1 if samuelson was playing.

EA sports sims have shown the Canucks to win this series in 7 games. (EA sports prediction sims are 13 of 14 in predictions thus far this playoffs)

Here are the simulation scores for this series from EA:

    Game 1: Boston 1 @ Vancouver 2 [OT]
    Game 2: Boston 2 @ Vancouver 4
    Game 3: Vancouver 0 @ Boston 1
    Game 4: Vancouver 2 @ Boston 3
    Game 5: Boston 2 @ Vancouver 4
    Game 6: Vancouver 2 @ Boston 3 [OT]
    Game 7: Boston 1@ Vancouver 3

(notice the unders? 5 of 7 games predicted to go under 5.5. food for thought.
this system did accurately predict the Blackhawks winning the cup last year though....

(just a note: EA simulation had many simulated stats, and were wrong on a bunch of them-
they predicted Crosby would lead the league in scoring with 107 points, predicted the devils would have 102 points and end up 4th in the east, had the Blues finishing in 6th place and beating the redwings....)

bruins have 9 rookies on the roster to the canucks 5

I could go on and on, but I wont....this is enough for now. got question? comments? concerns?

Interesting olympic stat :P vancouver did host this last year :P

Boston will win if 2 things happen
    1. there horrible pp improves
    2. Tim T plays like Tim T

I completely agree with that ea sports simulation
thought game 1 for sure would be under and go to ot :P
and i might just bet on the under every game and on vancouver TT u3.5 or 2.5

they did, and as a Canadian I hope this trend continue's, but as a bettor, I'm looking at more than one angle, and the one thing that jumps out to me is the ever so slight advantage between the pipes for the Bruins. Some goalies just have certain teams' numbers, and I honestly think Thomas has Vancouver's number.

Boston will win if 2 things happen

1: PP has to become effective. If they can hit at 17% or better, then they will win this series....but they gotta stay outta the box. That's gonna be tough, as these teams will wear each other down throwing the body alot and this will result in retaliation penalties....and that's a concern for the Bruins....

2: Thomas will be ready. The question is, will Luongo be?

I usually dont put a ton of faith into any of the simulations out there, but EA has been pretty darn good this year with series predictions.... it predicted this cup final (2 years in a row) and was right last year with the Blackhawks......but these sims tend to go hot and cold....so again, not too much credence in this years for me.

    PS:
Nice call with the Padres today.
Carmona is only worth a wager if he pitches at home, much like Litsch for Toronto, if not, fade him on the road with the over.
baltimore will be getting Matusz back eventually, until then, they are always a risky play.

    Good luck Drew.
