Just how impressive are the Stanley Cup favourite Vancouver Canucks? Well, put it this way, no team since the 1977-78 Montreal Canadiens — with Ken Dryden, Guy Lafleur, Larry Robinson etc — has combined to lead the NHL in most goals for and fewest goals against. But with six games to play, the Canucks are first in both those categories ..
They are also 1st in PP and 3rd on the PK.This team is going all the way this year. Utter domination across the board this year.
How often do presidents trophy winners go on to win the cup?? Doesn't happen a whole lot. I love how Babcock Planted a seed of doubt on lunogo and the Canucks...

seriously fellas....I agree, the Canucks looked awesome this year! but, they have looked pretty darn good the last 3 years, and then choke in the playoffs. So, please....don't get your hopes up until they get something done in the post-season! As far as I'm concerned, they are fluff until proven otherwise (win as many presidents trophys as you like, its still not a cup)

ever. They've looked good the last few years yes but they look great this year. They've always had a weakness or lack of depth at one position the last 5 years but they are extremely solid everywhere this year.
Having a fresh Luongo has done wonders for his game and he will be ready to go come playoffs and if he slips up Schneider is ready to take over
and keep him motivated and on top of his game.
I know they have to prove something in the playoffs this year and trust me they will I have no doubts.
Losing Malholtra will cost them. Check your cup expectations at the door.
His loss hurts but he's not making or breaking our cup chances. Let's be realistic here he's a third line face-off specialist who chips in with a goal every 8th game or so. Not a game breaker.

Second, I agree with the Malholtra thing, that is tough for them (anyone can see that, hes been awesome for them), but I do agree with DG, they have alot of depth, and alot of guys I think they can turn to in the AHL down the stretch.
DG, I agree with everything you've said about van, but they still need to prove it to me...and I almost think if they get in a game 6 against the hawks, they start schneider :P but ya...they have two number 1's in net right now...
I know they are a very impressive team both on paper and on the ice, but again, we will see what happens in the playoffs. It reminds me of San Jose alot, they've had a killer team for 4 or 5 years now, and they always choke come playoffs
Yup good points Leafs. They have a lot to prove this post season if they want to remove the "choke" reputation they have. As it sits now VAN/CHI are matched up and I'm hoping to hell to avoid them.
You'll learn more about hockey in the playoffs when you see the impact Malholtra had. In the traditional sense of the Selke requirements, he would have been the hands down winner.....in the days before they started giving it to stars.
He's a premiere shutdown guy, wins key faceoffs, is a great PK, AND can chip in goals.
Sorry but "depth" doesn't replace a guy like that. But Nucks fans should be used to choke jobs in the playoffs by now...it won't be anything new for them.
yea no doubt, its a psychological thing with CHI more than anything at this point. I really do think they beat CHI if they match up in the first round though, (or second), I think the team for them to beat is Detroit.... (which happens to be my second favorite team, or as I like to call them the past 5 years, my playoff team :P)

I remember the heart attacks lunogo gave all of us Canadians in the Olympics last year, aganist the Slovaks , then the final aganist the states letting that goal in with a few seconds to go. I personally think he's over rated, he won a gold medal , but he had the best players in the world playing infront of him...
I'm not saying they won't win a round , but when you have to play 6 or 7 games aganist detroit or San Jose , i don't see them going through...
Bob. When I say depth, I'm not just referring to Malholtra, I'm referring to the plethora of injuries that can happen during a playoff run (ie. 1999 Maple Leafs run). I am well aware of Malhotra's impact on the team.

How is Luongo overrated when he has the 3rd best save % in the league? Something he did year in and year out on a HORRIBLE Florida team.
I would agree he needs to prove himself in the playoffs or his career will be meaningless, but to say he's overrated is premature at this point.

I'll agree that he is the reason their PK is where it is.... his short handed faceoff perecentage is monstrous, but as a unit, I still feel the Canucks are pretty strong....but I still stick to my point that as strong as they are in the reg. season its very unproven in the post

Also try watching more games if you did you'd notice that Kesler and Henrik have been killing it on faceoffs this year as well. Both near the top in the league. Kesler is winning the Selke also.

Yes they do have a strong unit and great lineup, but they paid Malholtra a LOT because of the impact a 3rd line center has in the playoffs. We'll see how they adjust when they are facing teams with great PP's and elite scoring lines...
Yes I'll be the first to admit he hasn't been great in the playoffs yet...but Schneider has never proved anything when he's had expectations on him. The list of goalies that have played well with no pressure is very LONG. I just think nucks fans too easily forget what life was like before he came along..........a goalie graveyard. They could have already had a cup by now if Burke wasn't a complete idiot and stuck with red-light Cloutier.

I agree bob. Special teams are much more important come the playoffs, and considering its very likely the nucks face the wings at some point, an elite PP team, that could be trouble.. I never denied the importance of Malhotra, I just reaffirmed my belief in their overall depth as a squad.

yea, you have to really look at matchups, but I've been saying Wings all year, and I think they do it if they stay healthy. Not sure about playin nashville (if that happens) in the first round, that could be some trouble.

Wings are fluff. 11 fighting majors all year, only one player who throws hits (Abdelkader) and their D is old and soft as fcuk. Add to that Jimmy Howard/ Chris Osgood and McDonald combo? GG in 1st or 2nd round.
