argurement over if this is a correlated parlay

Please excuse misspelled title (can't seem to edit it).

Won't mention the book right now, but argument with telephone clerk tonight. I wanted to fill leg of an open parlay with over 2nd half of a college hoops game, during half time break.
Clerk would not take it because there was an earlier settled leg of over 1st ten minutes win of same game.
My point was that's already settled and has no bearing on this new wager, he said the opposite.
Am i wrong to think that the correlation only matters if both events have not yet begun? And/or I should have been allowed to add this wager?

    thanks

If I were a bookmaker, I would take your second-half over bet.

That said, sportsbooks are often retarded. If they weren't, they wouldn't be giving away all sorts of EV all the time. Sometimes they think they have a clue but don't. This is one of those cases. But to defend the dumb, they are permitted to reject parlay bets that they suspect are correlated. It is a same-game bet, so I'd cut them some slack, even if they are wrong.

Exactly what my take away was. Falls on the clerk not being too bright and looking to avoid a headache for himself.
One of those cases Justin where it's alot easier for them to say NO and avoid a potential problem, then actually caring about the situation and looking into it with a sup.
Thanks...... I actually feel special, I've been watching your youtubes and feel like I just had a brush with celebrity!

No question it's a completely independent play without correlation to the earlier settled outcome - but not surprised they denied the action. As Justin said, it sometimes seems they don't understand their own business and it's "when in doubt - shut 'em out."

The way it worked out - and this is probably giving them too much credit - the only edge their decision may have given them was forcing you to play the leg on a side or a totally different matchup on which you possibly didn't have as good a handle as you did the scoring pace of that game.
