    Hockey Home/Away % question.

Anyone have any idea what the % of HOME hockey teams win? During a given year,.or year after year,..Anyone know if their is a bigger % difference between home and away wins. NHL only.

Look at current NHL standings. Home teams win more. NHL.com has past season standings, check that out, not a very useful stat to try and gain an edge imo.

Data from 2008-2009 to present shows in the regular season the home team wins 56% (6% HIA) of the time...however there is big desperity for each team.

Boston is a good road team , they win 51% of their home games (giving them a 1% HIA) whereas Columbus wins 61% of their home games (giving them a 11% HIA)

Moral of my story, dont use an average for every team, it will bite ya!

i tried to bet based on that and it didn't work because home teams have inflated odds, if you are going to get -150 for teams that have %56 chance of winning it will not work on the long run.

What you would do is handicap the game and create a neutral ice win percentage, and then add the HIA percentage to the home team. This would then adjust the line going forward.
