You keep record in Excel. All your documents are gone if your hard disk is crashed. Not to mention, other threats such as virus, trojan, hacking etc.

Also some people switch between 2-3 computers during the day. For example, I'm using 2 laptop, 1 desktop pc. In which computer I will save my excel?

    Pen and paper is cool.

Pen and paper is fine, but the amount of time to take down each stat is horribly inefficient, not to mention prone to human error.

Use Google Docs if you want an MS Excel-like interface without the risk of a virus/PC crash jinxing your efforts. Google will be the caretaker of your docs.

A regular backup of your files is a good idea.

I would say one data entry program (Excel) would be sufficient. Then always back up your file with a protected flash drive. Using a flash drive also makes it mobile when needed. ...just don't lose it.

Well now that Dropbox is here, any format will do, and there isn't any need for backup hard drives either.

Set up a gmail account and mail the Excel sheet to yourself.

Years later when that is full, set up another account.

To have it doubly backed up, set up two accounts.
