    Hey fellas and gals,

I have a trend for Ncaab and nba ball that i wanna research a bit more. what software would allow me to most efficiently compute percentages for previous years? I'm looking to do this for both 1h, 2h and full game. Any help will be appreciated!

Get a database, and write your own program. Don't use someone else's.

    This.

That being said knowing how to use excel, and a scripting language like Python/Perl will get you 95% of the way there.

Justin, I feel like "how do I get started" should be a sticky... I could write up a nice post if you would agree to sticky it?

For the non-programmers: 90%+ can be done these days in Excel. Then you can pick up Visual Basic and get the rest. If you are in school, most any programming class can get you what you need for programming.

If you come up with a good introductory piece on databases, excel, perl, or anything else helpful for database work, I'll gladly sticky it. I'll probably give you some points too
