NCAA Tourney Results 1998-2009 in Excel

I'm sure that this will be useful for some people out there. Use it however you want. Share your insights with me through PMs if you are comfortable. Just trying to get good info out there for everyone...

I think it is interesting to look at the first and second round games where the vegas lines are most different from the game outcomes.

It is also interesting to see the distribution of outcomes (straight up, not vs spread). You will notice that with the season on the line, teams will foul and press and push the deficit past 5-7 points more frequently than in the regular season. This is well known, but it is interesting to put some numbers with it.

This is also a good tool to compare the outcomes of mid-majors vs bcs conference teams.

I think you can also get some insight on the large spreads also from this list. If you go back and do some research, you can see which kinds of 15 and 16 seeds will cover those 20ish point spreads.

    Share your thoughts...

One thing I noticed was that the line column was a little weird if an underdog won* - I'm guessing the line should be negative for every game. To fix this, you can create a new column next to the line and use excel sign functionto determine if the line is positive (If it equals 1) - if it is, just take the negative of the line in question, and everything should be good.

Love the data...looking at just the 1st round from 2007-2009, if you bet all the favorites of 6 points or more you would have went 19-1, 18-3 and 17-2 for a total record of 54-6 ATS (if I read the info right). This is pretty interesting...do you know where I can get 2010 data like that? pm if you want. thanks.
