It feels good to be responsible...

Bankroll Management has always been tough to adheed to until I started to understand the what it really means to GROW a bankroll.

In the past, like many of you... I have been guilty of overbetting. Win/Lose or Draw, it was inevitable that I would do this. As soon as the loss came I would rather quickly triple bet or if poker, move up to the nosebleed tables and attempt to one and done and then I'm good again.

Not surprising TILT was all too familiar and this pattern of unmanageability would always (not often but always) result in bust. I would swear off the gambling and feel like a loser(an accurate statement )

It wasn't until I reflected on my past wagering that I saw that no matter how much I won ( many times turning $100 into 12-$1500 ) ... TILT would always have it's way with me and get the last laugh

I would emerge and research BRM again, listening to teenage idiots on YouTube talking about the same 5%/2% Chris Ferguson rule. Being a math lover I took a gander at the Kelly Criterion.... why it would/wouldn't work with Sports Betting and come out of my hole cleansed from my gambling cardinal sins/woes, and ready to try out my new found disipline once again.

One more attempt... 1 more failure. There had to be a solution. I thought about the losers( all the many poker players I had witnessed at live games in my local city)............. I then thought about the long term winners (Billy Walters, Tom "Durrrr" Dwann, Etc.)

It started to come into view(make sense) .. these so called LOSERS!!! were playing way outside their bankrolls and even with a long shot win... guess where they were at the next night? I went back to my faithful YouTube and stumbled across a video that didn't disclose anything I didn't already know but it was the way the message came across. It was made for poker but applies to Sportsbook just the same. I attached below.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnOP-3TNKF0

As I started to practice making bets of no more than around 4% of my roll, I started to focus more on my handicapping and less on releasing endorphins

The craziest thing happened... I kept my BR intact, enjoyed action and got to see my roll increase in size (slowly but surely)

This felt good and was surely good for my esteem as well.

It feels good to be responsible!

Well done Raw...good luck adhering to this in the future! It is quite difficult not to get into that "chase" mentality we've all done every week or every other week. Good luck continuing you're good run of management!!

man u r so right. The hard part is walking away from your losses and living to fight another day.

It's my opinion though, that is what separates the MEN from the boys!
