Brady to the Chargers and the Chargers drafting Herbert for the future makes sense. Way too much sense for the NFL. Herbert could learn from one of the best for two years and then step into a very nice job. The Chargers would also have a chance at a huge payday for one of their games. How much could they make selling Brady vs Pats souvenirs when New England visits the Chargers, which they do this season. New England visits the new Los Angeles Stadium TWICE this season, as do the New York Jets.

The Chargers also play at Miami and Tampa Bay and host Jacksonville, in case Rivers moves on to Florida. Again big match ups. The Chargers can make a lot of money with an average team next season if they shuffle their personnel around correctly.

    Wednesday Update

DEN - Denver officially hires Mike Shula

    Source: DenverBroncos.com - Ben Swanson

Former New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Shula has been hired by the Denver Broncos as their new quarterbacks coach.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This has been in the works for at least a week. Shula has a good history of working with young quarterbacks, and he'll be working hand-in-hand with second-year pro Drew Lock. We saw Lock go 4-1 as the Broncos starter at the end of his rookie season in 2019. The future looks bright (finally) for the Broncos at the quarterback position.

KC - Extension for QB Patrick Mahomes may wait

    Source: ESPN.com - Adam Teicher

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is eligible for an contract extension, but team chairman Clark Hunt said the two sides may not reach an agreement this offseason. Hunt said signing Mahomes to an extension is a priority, but it needs to be at the right time for both sides.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mahomes is eligible to get a contract extension this offseason and the sooner the better for the Chiefs because his price is just going to keep going up. We will see him be the highest-paid player in the NFL when the Chiefs do end up giving him an extension. According to OverTheCap.com, the Chiefs only have around $18 million in cap space at this time.

MIA - Two work out for Miami

    Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates

Free-agent RB Alex Collins (Ravens) and QB Chris Streveler (CFL) worked out for the Miami Dolphins recently.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Dolphins are just updating their emergency list here. Collins has talent but he needs to stay healthy and hope to get a shot with a new team. He was out of football in 2019.

SF - RB Tevin Coleman feeling good

Source: San Jose Mercury News - Cam Inman

San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman (shoulder) said his injured shoulder is feeling good but wants to see how his range of motion is and how he will be able to manage the pain in his shoulder.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Coleman is likely to be limited in practice this week leading up to the Super Bowl. We expect him to play in the game, and we expect the 49ers to try and run the ball early and often against the Chiefs. That could mean a large role for guys like Coleman and Raheem Mostert.

NFL - WR Antonio Brown optimistic about future

Source: USA TODAY Sports - Josh Peter

Free-agent WR Antonio Brown (Patriots) said he is optimistic about playing in the NFL again.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brown has a lot to take care of before he can truly begin thinking about playing in the NFL again. His $100k bail remains in place after his arrest last week on charges of burglary with battery, burglary of an occupied conveyance and criminal mischief. NFL teams are not going to touch Brown until his legal problems are behind him...and even then it might be a long-shot for Brown to ever play in the league again.

    Thursday Update

KC - TE Travis Kelce fully practices

    Source: Chiefs.com

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce (knee) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Jan. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for the Chiefs here. Kelce has been bothered a bit by this knee injury but a full practice on Wednesday is a great sign that he can be as close to full strength as possible for the Super Bowl on Sunday.

LAC - QB Philip Rivers not necessarily done with Bolts

Source: NBC San Diego - Fernando Ramirez

Los Angeles Chargers QB Philip Rivers is unlikely to return to the team in 2020, in the opinion of FOX Sports' Jay Glazer. However, Glazer clarified comments he made a day earlier about Rivers' future on Tuesday, Jan. 28, stating he did not report that such a decision has already been made.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Glazer is not necessarily backtracking here, but he is clarifying his statement about Rivers. That's good but we still think Rivers is most likely done with the Chargers. Teams like the Buccaneers or the Colts could be interested in the veteran passer in 2020. Rivers stated after the season that he still wants to play football.

SF - Limited practice for RB Tevin Coleman

    Source: Chiefs.com

San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman (shoulder) was limited during practice Wednesday, Jan. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

As we get closer to the Super Bowl, we'll see if Coleman can do more. He's trending in the right direction and will likely be in a RBBC with Raheem Mostert if he plays against the Chiefs on Sunday.

GB - WR Ryan Grant unlikely to return

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers impending free-agent WR Ryan Grant likely will not re-sign with the Packers this offseason, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Rob Demovsky.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. Grant isn't going to get a ton of interest on the open market but some team will pick him up for veteran depth.

MIA - WR Preston Williams ahead of schedule

Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Miami Dolphins WR Preston Williams (knee) said he is ahead of schedule in his rehab and should be ready for the start of the regular season at the latest.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams looked really good in 2019 as an undrafted rookie out of Colorado State. In eight games, Williams was targeted 60 times, caught 32 passes for 428 yards and three touchdowns as the primary weapon on the Dolphins passing attack. He was placed on IR in early November and has been on the road to recovery ever since. Williams should be limited this offseason but we imagine he'll get eased into action when training camp rolls around later this summer.

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky (shoulder) had surgery to repair a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The injury was to Trubisky's non-throwing shoulder, and the recovery time is expected to be two months. That means Trubisky should be limited in OTAs later this year. However, he should be good to go and full strength by the time training camp gets here.

NFL - Antonio Gandy-Golden impressed in Mobile

    Source: ESPN.com

Liberty WR Antonio Gandy-Golden is 'not the most polished receiver ... but he'll be a nice player in the league (once he gets better with technique),' according to an unnamed NFL scout who talked to ESPN writers covering the Senior Bowl last week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gandy-Golden is raw coming out of Liberty but the physical tools are there for him to be a playmaker at the pro level. He had an impressive week of practice at the Senior Bowl and showcased strong hands, body control and sideline awareness. We could see Gandy-Golden go off the board on Day 2 of the 2020 NFL draft.

    Friday Update

CAR - TE Greg Olsen parting ways

    Source: Panthers.com

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen mutually agreed to part ways with the team Thursday, Jan. 30. 'Today, I had the opportunity to sit down with (general manager) Marty Hurney and have a great conversation regarding my future with the organization,' Olsen said. 'The team and I are both on the same page that it is best we go in different directions for now,'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is one of many steps for the Panthers this offseason which is going to feature quite a few changes. They have a new staff in place and are soon likely to deal QB Cam Newton and start fresh with a new quarterback. Olsen could continue playing for another team looking for a veteran tight end.

KC - QB Patrick Mahomes excels vs. best

    Source: ESPN - Ed Werder

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has compiled a 10-1 record against defenses that have finished in the regular season's top 10 in terms of the fewest passing yards per game allowed, including a 5-0 mark this season. That's the best record among quarterbacks in that scenario (minimum five starts).

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mahomes just excels no matter which defense he's playing. In the Super Bowl, he will be facing a 49ers defense that ranked No.1 in the NFL in 2019 by only allowing an average of 169.2 passing yards per game.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt was named as the new offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Van Pelt has been the quarterbacks coach for the Bengals over the last two years. There is some question as to whether or not Van Pelt or new Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski will call plays but we imagine that Stefanski will take on those duties.

KC - WR Sammy Watkins may sit out 2020

    Source: ESPN.com - Adam Teicher

Kansas City Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins said Thursday, Jan. 30, he may sit out the 2020 season, if the Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV Sunday, Feb. 2. 'I don't know what I'm going to do. If we win it, I might chill out. I might sit out a year. You just never know,' Watkins said. 'Not retiring, but I might just want to rest up and chill. I don't know. I don't want to say I'm going to do something, but you never know. I might want to go somewhere else and create another Super Bowl team. So it's just all about how I'm feeling.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This was an ...interesting bit of news to come out of the Super Bowl on Thursday. Watkins carries a cap hit of $21 million for the 2020 season. It's the final year of his current contract and the Chiefs could save $14 million while eating $7 million in dead money if they get rid of Watkins.

KC - TE Travis Kelce excels as deep threat

    Source: ProFootballFocus.com

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce this regular season paced all tight ends with 274 yards on receptions 20-plus yards downfield.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kelce is going to be a huge threat for the 49ers on Super Bowl Sunday. The Chiefs will use 'sail' concepts with Kelce running corner routes to beat the 49ers Cover 3 zone defense with middle field closed. He should have a big game in the Chiefs biggest contest.

NYJ - WR Robby Anderson wanted back

Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo

New York Jets WR Robby Anderson said Thursday, Jan. 30, the team has expressed interest in him returning for the 2020 season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Anderson is actually one of the better wide receivers set to hit free agency this offseason. His speed is going to be coveted by teams out there including the Jets.

CHI - WR Allen Robinson wants to stick in Chicago

Source: Chicago Sun-Times - Patrick Finley

Chicago Bears WR Allen Robinson said Thursday, Jan. 30, he's open to signing an extension with the team this offseason, as he prepares to head into his contract year. 'I want to be in Chicago, if they'll have me,' Robinson said. 'The biggest thing is, I can't make that happen solely myself. I just gotta control what I can control. I know that everything will probably play out fine.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Robinson had a bounce-back year in 2019, finishing with 98 catches for 1,147 yards and seven touchdowns. He's set to break the bank if his 2020 season sees similar production. Robinson is the top target for the Bears passing game and would benefit from better play from QB Mitchell Trubisky.

SF - WR Deebo Samuel off to strong start

    Source: NFL Research

San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel has had more receptions (62) in his rookie season (including playoffs) than former 49ers WRs Jerry Rice (53) and Terrell Owens (36) did in their first pro seasons and has as many 100-yard games (3) as Rice and Owens had as rookies combined.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Samuel has had a great rookie season for the 49ers. His strength and run-after-the-catch ability make him a factor in the passing game. Samuel should continue to develop as a pro and Fantasy GMs should consider him a WR3 with upside in 2020. He finished as the No.26 fantasy receiver in standard-scoring leagues as a rookie.

NO - QB Drew Brees still playing at high level

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Triplett

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees, a pending free agent, is still performing at a high level, head coach Sean Payton said Thursday, Jan. 30, in an
interview on ESPN's First Take. 'The job is for (Brees) is to win, and he's done that,' Payton said. 'Is the ball going down the field the same way? Maybe it's not. And yet his (yards per attempt) and all those things have been real good.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brees may not quite be the player he used to be but his game has not fallen off a cliff. In fact, he can still be incredibly effective as a starter and with the Saints he keeps them a Super Bowl contender. Brees is going to take a month or so to make a decision on his future.

NO - Sean Payton expects QB change

    Source: NFL.com - Nick Shook

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton said Thursday, Jan. 30, that he doesn't expect QBs/pending free agents Drew Brees, Teddy Bridgewater and Taysom Hill will all be back with the Saints next season. To have all three of those guys back is probably very unlikely,' Payton said. 'You really appreciate the season you had when you had all three of them.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Change is part of the game, and getting all three quarterbacks back in 2020 just isn't going to happen. Brees could remain as the starter if he decides he wants to keep playing and can come to an agreement with the Saints. Bridgewater was incredibly effective as the starter while Brees was out in 2019, and he could be the heir apparent to Brees. Hill is a great part-time player and will have a market for his services because of his versatility as a passer, runner and receiver.

SF - QB Jimmy Garoppolo on record-low pace

    Source: ESPN Stats and Information

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo only has attempted 27 passes so far in two postseason games. If the 49ers throw 25 or fewer times in Super Bowl LIV on Sunday, Feb. 2, they'll finish in the top five in terms of fewest pass attempts by a Super Bowl team in a single postseason. Each of the current five teams on the list played in 1974 or earlier, and each of them wound up winning the Super Bowl.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The plan for the 49ers is to run, run, run against the Chiefs. First, it's what the 49ers do best and they can wear down the Chiefs defense. Second, they'll keep the Chiefs offense cold on the sidelines if they can run the ball effectively and eat up the time of possession. It's not their plan to have Garoppolo pass 25 or more times on Super Bowl Sunday.

Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry, an impending free agent, said Thursday, Jan. 30, that 'I definitely want to stay in Tennessee.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Titans should pay Henry a contract that makes him one of the highest paid running backs in the NFL. They have $50.9 million in cap space according to OverTheCap.com. Henry is the centerpiece of what they do on offense and will be compensated as such.

NFL - Scouts raving about Van Jefferson

    Source: Pro Football Network

University of Florida WR Van Jefferson impressed scouts with the way he was able to separate from opponents and catch the ball during Senior Bowl practice last week. If he runs well at the NFL Combine and/or at his pro day, those same scouts believe he could move into the second day of the NFL Draft.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jefferson had a great week of practice at the Senior Bowl. He can run routes much better than most receivers coming out of college. Jefferson can get separation with ease and has good concentration when passes are coming in. We could see him go off the board on Day 2 of the 2020 NFL draft.

    Saturday Update

SF - Super Bowl injury report for 49ers

    Source: 49ers.com

San Francisco 49ers LB Kwon Alexander (pectoral) and S Jaquiski Tartt (ribs) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 31, and are not on the injury report for Super Bowl LIV.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Alexander and Tartt give the 49ers defense more speed to help contend with a Chiefs offense that will stretch the field.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Coleman should still be the second back behind Raheem Mostert if only because Mostert had the best game of his career the last time out. Coleman is also at risk of reinjury, so the 49ers should have Matt Breida ready in reserve, and possibly even Jeff Wilson.

KC - Chris Jones expected for Super Bowl

    Source: ESPN.com - Adam Teicher

Kansas City Chiefs DT Chris Jones (calf) is expected to be available and play Sunday, Feb. 2, in Super Bowl LIV, head coach Andy Reid told a pool reporter Friday.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones went out in the fourth quarter of the AFC title game last year in a development that hurt the Chiefs cause when the lost to the Patriots in overtime. His availability this weekend will be a boost for a Chiefs defensive line that has a tall order slowing down the 49ers running game.

GB - RB Jamaal Williams to receive raise

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams will have his 2020 base salary increase from $735,000 to $2.147 million because of the NFL's proven performance escalator.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams got banged up as the season went on, but at one point was basically in a committee with Aaron Jones. He looked swifter and stronger as a runner than he had in previous years and has set up a better market for his services when he becomes a free agent next year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones deserves that and then some. The Packers could seek to sign him to an extension this offseason to avoid losing him in free agency or having the market set his price if they wait until after this season to lock him up long term.

BAL - WR Marquise Brown to have bigger impact

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens WR Marquise Brown is expected to make a bigger impact in the passing game in 2020 because he was never fully healthy this season, according to head coach John Harbaugh. Brown did not fully recover from foot surgery and was limited during practices for most of the season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Harbaugh confirmed what was obvious when looking at Brown's snap counts and injury statuses this year. Brown should be able to vastly outperform what he did in 2019 and should be sought after in dynasty trades this offseason.

NYJ - RB Bilal Powell hopes to return

Source: New York Post - Ryan Dunleavy

New York Jets impending free-agent RB Bilal Powell said he hopes to re-sign with the Jets this offseason and received positive feedback from the team during his exit meeting.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Powell is still a competent backup, but not more at this point in his career. With another infusion of talent at running back via the draft, it will be more difficult for him to find a job. The Jets could revamp their backfield this offseason if they find a taker for LeVeon Bell in the trade market.

Carolina Panthers impending free-agent TE Greg Olsen likely will consider signing with the Washington Redskins this offseason if he decides to continue his playing career, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This would be a reunion with Ron Rivera and he would fill a big area of need for the team. He played well enough last year to have some fantasy relevance if he is on the field in 2020. If he retires, Olsen should be a welcome addition to a broadcast booth this season.

DAL - QB Dak Prescott could hold out

Source: The Dallas Morning News - David Moore

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott, a pending free agent, said Thursday, Jan. 30, that he may stay away from the Cowboys' offseason program is he doesn't receive a new contract and the team applies the franchise tag. 'We'll get to that when we get to that,'' Prescott said. 'I look forward to talking to my agents and when that (tag) comes to play, the direction that we'll go. Until that's a reality, I won't worry about it.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Prescott has earned an extension and the security that comes with it even the Cowboys have been reluctant to lock him into a long-term extension at market value. He's benefiting from not going in the first round, which would have allowed the Cowboys to have a fifth-year option on his rookie for less than the franchise tag or whatever his yearly rate will be on his eventual new deal.

Buffalo Bills impending free-agent RB Frank Gore hopes to play another season in 2020.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gore would be best as a quasi-coach to mentor a young back and serve as an emergency backup at this point. The Bills should expand Devin Singletary's role in 2020, although Gore could be brought back because of his familiarity with the offense.

    Sunday Update

KC - RB LeSean McCoy likely to be inactive

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Kansas City Chiefs RB LeSean McCoy likely will be inactive as a healthy scratch and won't play in Super Bowl LIV, sources said Saturday, Feb. 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCoy is simply not the same player he used to be. He hasn't done much for the Chiefs down the stretch as they make the run to what they hope is a Super Bowl championship. The Chiefs move forward in this game with Damien Williams as their lead back and Darwin Thompson as a backup running back.

KC - WR Tyreek Hill, WR Mecole Hardman to return punts?

Source: NFL Network - James Palmer

Kansas City Chiefs WRs Tyreek Hill and Mecole Hardman could be used as punt returners in Super Bowl LIV, depending upon the flow of the game and how they're feeling, according to special teams coordinator Dave Toub.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Chiefs could use Hill as a return man if the game is on the brink. Hill is a big play waiting to happen and could certainly make a game-changing play as a return man...even if that return doesn't go for a touchdown. He can flip the field anytime (and any way) he touches the ball.

NFL - Joe Burrow the clear No. 1 QB in class?

    Source: ESPN.com

Louisiana State QB Joe Burrow is the top quarterback prospect in the 2020 NFL Draft, according to an NFL scout. 'I don't think there are any franchise guys in this draft except Burrow,' the scout said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Burrow is certainly considered the No.1 quarterback by most everyone in the scouting community. He doesn't have a rocket arm but he does have tremendous accuracy and pass placement on short-to-intermediate routes. Burrow is also known for high intelligence, a great work ethic and as a great leader. The Bengals should take him No.1 overall but that is not a lock as Oregon QB Justin Herbert might be their preferred pick.

NYG - QB Daniel Jones set for new offense

Source: New York Post - Paul Schwartz

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones says he's ready for the challenge of learning a new offense under recently hired offensive coordinator Jason Garrett. 'It'll be a challenge but it's part of the job,'' Jones said Saturday, Feb. 1 during Super Bowl week festivities in Miami. 'I learned a system this year, so we're doing it again. It will be a challenge and something I'll need to spend a lot of time making sure I'm working towards and making progress with. I think we'll all be able to do it, I think we'll all attack it the right way and try to pick it up as quick as we can.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones had a good rookie season under former Giants head coach Pat Shurmur and former offensive coordinator Mike Shula. Those two are now with the Broncos and Jones will have to learn a new system under Garrett. We imagine they'll be able to ease Jones into the new system so that he can get up to speed ASAP.

NFL - WR Antonio Brown issues apology

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent WR Antonio Brown (Patriots) on Friday, Jan. 31, told ESPN in an interviews that he is remorseful about his recent behavior and actions. 'I think I owe the whole NFL an apology and my past behavior,' Brown said. 'I think I could have done a lot of things better.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brown is trying to find a way back into the NFL. This is a good PR move for him in addition to being what he genuinely feels at this time. Brown's future in the NFL is murky at best and the league could decide on suspending him (or not suspending him) at some point this offseason.

WAS - QB Alex Smith counting blessings

    Source: ESPN - Stephania Bell

Washington Redskins QB Alex Smith (leg) said Saturday, Feb. 1, he's 'very much lucky to be alive' following his November, 2018 broken leg and subsequent infection. Smith is now past the health issues, and a return to the field is possible next season. 'There's enough there that I can go out there and play,' Smith said. 'Knowing that, yeah, failure is a possibility ... I need to prove that I can come back and play quarterback in the NFL, and if I can do that, that would be great and it'll get figured out.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Smith's return to the field is possible but it's far from a guarantee. He insists that he wants to continue playing football but if he stays with Washington Smith will likely have to adjust his contract. Smith has a cap hit of $21.4 million in 2020 and there is a whopping $32.2 million remaining in dead money.

DAL - TE Jason Witten to play elsewhere?

    Source: The Associated Press

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten, a pending free agent, said Saturday he remains undecided on retirement and is realistic about possibly finishing his career with another team.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

After sitting out the 2018 season, Witten proved that he could still play in 2019. There's a chance he continues playing and would certainly have interest on the open market. In fact, Witten could follow former Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett to the New York Giants where Garrett got a job as the offensive coordinator.

CAR - Carolina to work out QB Cam Newton in March

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (foot) is slated to work out for the team when he's healthy in March, according to ESPN's Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler, who write that Newton will undergo a full evaluation at that time regarding his future with the team. They add that Newton returning as Carolina's starter in 2020 is 'not a far-fetched scenario.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The future for Newton is unknown at this time. New Panthers head coach Matt Rhule might want to start fresh with a new quarterback -- perhaps a rookie quarterback -- in 2020. Newton would draw plenty of interest if put on the trade block.

DET - Detroit in play for Tua Tagovailoa?

    Source: Sun-Sentinel - Omar Kelly

The Detroit Lions are 'without a doubt a threat' to select Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa (hip) with the third overall pick, according to the Sun-Sentinel's Omar Kelly, who reports there are rumblings that the Lions will either select Tagovailoa or trade their selection to someone who will.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Lions pick could be up for grabs. They have the No.3 overall selection and Tagovailoa should still on the board if QB Joe Burrow goes No.1 to the Bengals and EDGE Chase Young goes No.2 to Washington. The Dolphins have planned on Tagovailoa as their target in the draft, but they may have
to move up from the No.5 position. Stay tuned.

DET - WR Kenny Golladay set for big contract?

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions WR Kenny Golladay's price tag is only going to increase after the 2020 season, according to James Jones of the NFL Network. 'They better hurry up and pay Kenny,' Jones said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Golladay put up strong numbers in 2019 with three different (Matthew Stafford, Jeff Driskel, David Blough) starting quarterbacks. With Stafford healthy, Golladay should once again perform at a high level...likely a higher level than 2019. His price is not going to go down. We'll see if the Lions try to get something done with the talented receiver before he hits the open market in 2021.

NFL - Jake Fromm a top QB prospect?

    Source: ESPN.com

Georgia QB Jake Fromm 'tried to do too much' this season, according to an NFL scout, and the scout believes From will still be a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fromm is a polarizing quarterback in 'Draft Twitter' as his numbers and physical skill set won't blow you away. He was a game manager for the Georgia Bulldogs and some see that as a big negative for his game. Fromm is stable as a starter and doesn't make bad decisions with the football. He might go in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft.

    NFL - Jordan Love a first-round pick?

    Source: ESPN.com

Utah State QB Jordan Love 'has the arm strength, athleticism and high ceiling to ascend among this group into being taken in the top 20' of the 2020 NFL Draft, according to a team scout.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Love has been considered a first-round pick in the scouting community for quite some time. Not only should he go on the first day of the draft, but Love might be a top-10 pick in the 2020 NFL draft.

TEN - RB Dion Lewis disappeared from offense

Source: The Athletic - John Glennon

Tennessee Titans RB Dion Lewis played 366 snaps and gained 373 yards from scrimmage in 2019 after playing 600 snaps and gaining 917 yards from scrimmage in 2018.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Titans made Derrick Henry the complete centerpiece of their offense...more than ever before in 2019. Lewis has a $5.1 million cap number in 2020 but there's only $1.1 million remaining in dead money. That means the Titans are likely to move on from the veteran back. If he's on the open market, Lewis should get interest from teams looking for a change-of-pace runner.

MIA - RB Frank Gore interested in Miami

Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Buffalo Bills impending free-agent RB Frank Gore said Thursday, Jan. 30, that he would love to return to the Miami Dolphins in 2020.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gore can still play...although he's not a starter and not what he used to be. Some team looking for a veteran presence in the backfield and a grinder should be interested.

IND - WR Parris Campbell sheds boot

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Jim Ayello

Indianapolis Colts WR Parris Campbell (foot) said he recently shed his walking boot and hopes to resume football activities by the end of February.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for the young receiver here. If he is ready for football activities at the end of February, we should see the Colts ease him back into action. Campbell flashed just a bit during his rookie year in 2019, compiling just 18 catches for 127 yards and one touchdown in seven games.

WAS - RB Derrius Guice healthy again

Source: The Washington Post - Kareem Copeland

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice (knee) said he has fully recovered from the knee injury that sent him to the Reserve/Injured list at the end of last season, and he is focused on proving he can be a reliable back. 'I want to show the whole thing,' Guice said. 'I want everybody to see everything.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Guice is a talented runner but he just can't stay healthy. He missed his entire rookie season in 2018 and then only made it through five games in 2019. Guice has the talent to be a special back at the pro level if he could only make it through a season unscathed.

NO - QB Drew Brees willing to share load

    Source: NBC - Chris Simms

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees said he would be willing to give more snaps to QB Taysom Hill if both players return in 2020. 'Call the plays that puts us in the best position to win,' Brees said. 'If that means Taysom Hill is taking 30 snaps a game, 25 snaps a game, so be it.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brees, Hill and Teddy Bridgewater are all free agents this offseason. The Saints have some big decisions to make, provided that Brees does not retire. They won't be able to keep all three quarterbacks, but re-signing Brees and Hill might be the way they go.
