NFL Player News - Week of 8/20/18

CHI - TE Adam Shaheen has ankle injury

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Chicago Bears TE Adam Shaheen (ankle) is believed to have a low ankle sprain based on initial tests, according to a source. He is scheduled to undergo more tests but may have a chance to play Week 1 if he does not have any more problems.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is about the best news the Bears could have hoped for after Shaheen was carted off last night. Trey Burton could still be an excellent play in Week 1 against Green Bay and until Shaheen is full speed, but Shaheen might be relevant later in the season with his dominant play at the catch point and he shouldn't be forgotten.

CLE - WR Josh Gordon may be ready for Week 1

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon has a chance to be ready for Week 1, according to head coach Hue Jackson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gordon still has to get clearance from the league, but his conditioning appears to be excellent. We don't doubt that he'll be ready to play Week 1 if he is allowed on the field and barring a setback, we expect him to be there.

NYG - RB Saquon Barkley remains sidelined

    Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants WR Saquon Barkley (hamstring) is not participating in practice Sunday, Aug. 19.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team will be smart and take it slow with Barkley. It's likely we don't see him on a field until the season opener against the Jaguars. Hopefully he is practicing in full, but either way we will hold our collective breath on his first few touches with the risk of aggravation looming.

NE - RB Rex Burkhead back on the field

    Source: NESN.com - Doug Kyed

New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead (knee) is participating in practice Sunday, Aug. 19.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Burkhead's injury must be minor after all in light of this. His durability record is still spotty in his short time as a core part of a backfield and aggravation or new injuries are possible, but for now it appears that he'll be able to handle the workload he did last year in Week 1 against Houston.

LAC - TE Hunter Henry not ruled out?

    Source: ESPN.com - Eric D. Williams

Los Angeles Chargers TE Hunter Henry (knee) is about three months into his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, but the team has not ruled out the possibility of Henry playing in 2018. Henry is expected to be placed on the Reserve/Injured list.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Henry's return give the Chargers an extra dimension in the passing game that could tip scales their way, but they don't want to rush him back. The playoffs could be what the team has in mind for his return.

LAC - PK Roberto Aguayo likely to win placekicking job

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Los Angeles Chargers PK Roberto Aguayo appears likely to win the team's placekicking job, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This might sound like the opening to a horror movie sequel for Chargers fans. Caleb Sturgis got a million dollars guaranteed, but right now he is on the outside looking in. This looks like a situation to avoid again in fantasy leagues until Aguayo proves himself.

WAS - RB Jamaal Charles visiting Washington

    Source: ESPN.com - Josina Anderson

Free-agent RB Jamaal Charles (Broncos) is scheduled to visit the Washington Redskins Sunday, Aug. 19, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Charles didn't look washed up last year, but he didn't resemble the back we saw with the Chiefs. He would likely be a non-factor if he is signed, but he could hurt Rob Kelley's speculative value.

TB - RB Charles Sims expected to be fine

Source: Tampa Bay Times - Rick Stroud

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims (knee) did not suffer a serious injury in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 18, and he is expected to be fine for the start of the regular season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sims avoids a bad outcome here, but he still has to outplay UDFA scatback Shaun Wilson to be assured of making the team.

CAR - Carolina backup QB battle rolls on

    Source: Panthers.com

Carolina Panthers QBs Garrett Gilbert and Taylor Heinicke continue to battle for the primary backup job to QB Cam Newton, and the job is considered to be a neck-and-neck battle.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

In other words, Newton better play 16 games this year.

ATL - PK Matt Bryant day-to-day

    Source: AtlantaFalcons.com - Will McFadden

Atlanta Falcons PK Matt Bryant (undisclosed) is considered day-to-day because of an undisclosed injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bryant still hasn't played yet in the preseason. He is going off of the board in the top five kickers, which seems too high while we are waiting for him to prove he's healthy enough to play in Week 1. Rookie UDFA David Marvin missed a kick in the second preseason game, if there's a problem with Bryant, the team would likely look outside of the organization for a kicker.

NYJ - QB Sam Darnold works with starters

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets QB Sam Darnold received most of the snaps with the first-team offense during practice Sunday, Aug. 19, and appears to be the likely candidate to start in the third preseason game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Darnold is in line to start Week 1, but that's not a good thing for Robby Anderson, who had an excellent deep ball connection with Josh McCown last year. It's hard to say yet if anyone in the offense will benefit from Darnold's style or play or inclinations, we'll watch the third preseason game for clues.

SEA - Seattle had interest in QB Jacoby Brissett

Source: The Boston Globe - Ben Volin

Indianapolis Colts QB Jacoby Brissett was recently a trade target for the Seattle Seahawks, but the Colts rejected the offer of a second-round pick for Brissett, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This report seems to be of dubious quality, but the team was interested in Patrick Mahomes and Russell Wilson is a free agent in 2020. The Seahawks can always franchise tag him but otherwise Wilson will be getting 25 million or more a year, likely fully guaranteed after the contract Kirk Cousins got this offseason.

DEN - WR Demaryius Thomas sidelined with wrist injury

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas (wrist) did not play in the team's preseason game against the Chicago Bears Saturday, Aug. 18, because of a sore wrist suffered in practice, according to head coach Vance Joseph.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's no reason to think this is serious or will affect Thomas's play or availability for Week 1, but it would be comforting to see him play next week and look like his usual self. Second-round pick Courtland Sutton has gotten rave reviews this summer and if he starts at any point for Thomas, he could be an instant impact player.

DEN - Denver RB competition ongoing

Source: The Denver Post - Troy E. Renck

Denver Broncos RB Royce Freeman and RB Devontae Booker are still in a competition, head coach Vance Joseph said Saturday, Aug. 18.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Joseph is saying the right things, but Freeman is decisively better and if the coaching staff is rational and Freeman stays healthy, he'll lead the team in running back touches this year by a good margin.

News from Washington. NFL.com's Ian Rapoport just reported: "He’s back: The #Redskins are signing former Pro Bowl RB Adrian Peterson, source tells me and @MikeGarafolo. Immediate help in the wake of a string of injuries at the position."

Peterson is obviously a well known name but we have a hard time getting too excited here. Our advice until we see something different is to let the other guys in your league chase Peterson, Kelly and Perine in this backfield. We think it'll be mostly Chris Thompson producing with receptions. Our Ari Ingel said to me today the big winner in this move might be Thompson as the team signed another RB who can't catch.

Bottom line is we were excited this summer about Washington running back Derrius Guice. We weren't excited about the Washington running game. Ever since Guice was lost to injury, we're tending to look mostly other places. With the exception of Thompson where his receiving numbers can help you.

I picked up AP just in case in a league that drafted Saturday. Not a great situation but Kamara and Zeke are my starters since we did an auction draft and I am heavily targeting running backs early in my drafts.

    Tuesday Update

WAS - RB Adrian Peterson joining Washington

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo

Free-agent RB Adrian Peterson (Cardinals) will be signing with the Washington Redskins, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

An interesting move for Washington, and Fantasy GMs want to know how much he has left in the tank. Our very own Matt Waldman had this to say about this signing: Should you run out and make Peterson an early-round pick? Not at all but the potential for him to perform as one is still there in his game. If his ADP is somewhere between the 8th-12th round or later, he's worth consideration if Washington intends to make him the lead back. If you're drafting before that's a certainty, he's a decent value after the 12th round.

PHI - QB Carson Wentz looking fresh

Source: Delaware News Journal - Martin Frank

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (knee) took part in 11-on-11 drills for the at practice Sunday, Aug. 19, for the first time in more than three weeks. 'His arm is live,' Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said of Wentz. 'He hasn't had all the reps, obviously, that (QB) Nick (Foles) has had, that (QB) Nate (Sudfeld) has had, so his arm is live. He's fresh, and that's all the things that we wanted him to be at this stage.' Pederson didn't say whether Wentz would see any playing time in the Eagles' final two preseason games but left the possibility open that he could start the Sept. 6 season opener against the Atlanta Falcons.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wentz looks good and is trending towards playing in Week 1 of the regular season. When asked about his availability for the beginning of the regular season, Wentz told reporters 'It's going to be close.' Stay tuned.

NYG - RB Saquon Barkley still not practicing

    Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (hamstring) remained out of practice Monday, Aug. 20, as he recovers from a hamstring injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on this situation. Barkley has the talent to be a first round pick for Fantasy GMs (near the turn) and there is the potential for him to be a superstar as the centerpiece of the Giants offense. He'll need to get healthy and stay healthy to play up to those high expectations. Barkley did take part in team warmups and was spending practice participating in individual drills on the side.

BUF - QB Josh Allen working with ones

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen will work with the first-team offense Monday, Aug. 20, with QB Nathan Peterman taking the second-team repetitions.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's only a matter of time, and A.J. McCarron's injury just further opens the door for Allen to be the Bills starter. Allen has a big arm but needs to play better under pressure and become a more accurate quarterback. We'll see how he responds to playing with the first-team offense more and more though the rest of the preseason.

BUF - QB AJ McCarron did not break collarbone

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Buffalo Bills QB AJ McCarron (collarbone) did not fracture his collarbone in Week 2 of the preseason, as was originally reported, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCarron got his second opinion and it's as good as can be expected. He is expected to be back at practice soon. Josh Allen is the quarterback of the future, but we'll see if a healthy McCarron can continue to push for the starting job at the beginning of the 2018 season.

PHI - QB Carson Wentz will not play Thursday

Source: The Philadelphia Inquirer - Jeff McLane

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (knee) said he will not play in the third preseason game Thursday, Aug. 23.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We are not going to see Wentz this preseason, that was already known. We'll see if he can play Week 1 of the regular season, and he remains noncommittal at the moment. Nick Foles (shoulder) did return to practice Sunday, but most expect him to miss the rest of the preseason as a precaution. The Eagles should go with third-year quarterback Nate Sudfeld as their starter this week.

NYJ - NYJ receiving interest in QB Teddy Bridgewater

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets QB Teddy Bridgewater is receiving trade interest from at least two teams, but the Jets have not received any concrete trade offers at this time, according to source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bridgewater has played well this preseason and the Jets only have him on a one-year deal. He could push for a starting job, but getting one of those at this point may prove to be difficult. Bridgewater may end up getting traded to a team in need of a quality backup.

TB - QB Ryan Fitzpatrick still set to start

    Source: Buccaneers.com - Scott Smith

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is still in line to start in the team's Week 1 opener in place of the suspended Jameis Winston even though fellow QB Ryan W. Griffin has had a strong preseason, according to head coach Dirk Koetter.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Griffin is a big-bodied pocket passer we've been monitoring in super deep dynasty leagues. It's great to see him developing well, but the team is going to go with the seasoned veteran while starter Jameis Winston is suspended.

BUF - QB Josh Allen will start this week

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen is making his first start of the preseason this week, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The third preseason game is the most like a regular season game of any at this time of year. Allen is going to get plenty of time to prove himself as the starter. He's been competing for the top spot with guys like A.J. McCarron and Nate Peterman, and the rookie from Wyoming just started getting first team reps. He's the quarterback of the future and the future may be now...stay tuned.

CLE - Antonio Callway still out

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns WR Antonio Callaway (groin) did not participate in team drills Monday, Aug. 20.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

When healthy, the Browns should have plans for getting Callaway the ball early on short routes where he can best utilize his run-after-the-catch ability. We like him in dynasty formats but are cool on the Browns receiving weapons in 2018 of guys not named Jarvis Landry or Josh Gordon.

BUF - RB LeSean McCoy misses practice

    Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy (groin) did not participate in practice Monday, Aug. 20, because of a sore groin.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCoy is going to get some rest, and the team will be cautious with this injury. The third preseason game is known as the dress rehearsal for the regular season. At this point, there's no reason to think McCoy will miss the game. The Bills are at home to face the Bengals on Sunday.

NYJ - RB Isaiah Crowell out of protocol

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets RB Isaiah Crowell (concussion) has gone through the concussion protocol and is participating in practice Monday, Aug. 20.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's the next step for Crowell to get back on the field. He is in line to be the lead back for the Jets this year but we will see Bilal Powell get worked into the mix as well. Right now, Fantasy GMs are taking Crowell off the board at RB37 (7.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

DEN - WR Demaryius Thomas on the field

Source: The Denver Post - Ryan O'Halloran

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas (wrist) is participating in practice Monday, Aug. 20.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas is set to be the lead wide receiver for the Broncos, and the passing game should be much more robust this year with Case Keenum starting than it was last year with the clown car they had at the quarterback position. We think Thomas has an appropriate current ADP of WR19 (4.07, 12-team PPR) but Fantasy GMs are still sleeping on Emmanuel Sanders (WR33, 7.04). If you wait at the wide receiver position, then either one of these Broncos receivers could be quality additions in a rejuvenated offense.

PHI - RB Jay Ajayi remains sidelined

Source: The Philadelphia Inquirer - Zach Berman

Philadelphia Eagles RB Jay Ajayi (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Monday, Aug. 20. Ajayi also missed practice Sunday, Aug. 19.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ajayi is going to be the lead back for the Eagles in 2018..but the team does use a RBBC approach with Doug Pederson coaching. That nerfs the fantasy value for Ajayi. We'll see if he can get back on the field with this undisclosed injury (whatever it is), and Fantasy GMs like Ajayi around RB20 (4.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

ATL - TE Austin Hooper improved as blocker

    Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper was praised by head coach Dan Quinn for his improvements as a run blocker.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Even though he took a step forward in 2017 (787 snaps, 49 catches, 526 yards, three touchdowns), Hooper could be used even more this year. It will be interesting to see how Steve Sarkisian's offense looks in year two. We'll also be monitoring how rookie WR Calvin Ridley changes the target distribution for QB Matt Ryan. Hooper is a TE2 for Fantasy GMs, currently going off the board at TE17 (13.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

PHI - TE Dallas Goedert ready to fill void

    Source: NFL.com - Daniel Jeremiah

Philadelphia Eagles TE Dallas Goedert should 'slide right into' the role that Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton filled for the offense last year, according to Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Burton collected 23 passes for 248 yards and five touchdowns last year with the Eagles. Goedert has a great size/speed combination with the ability to create mismatches every time he's on the field. In 2017, Burton was the no.26 fantasy tight end (standard scoring leagues), and the rookie Goedert might even be able to produce more in 2018. We love his dynasty value and Goedert could be a late-round tight end to take a chance on in your drafts.

    Wednesday Update

CHI - TE Adam Shaheen has foot sprain

Source: Chicago Tribune - Rich Campbell

Chicago Bears TE Adam Shaheen (ankle) is dealing with a sprained foot, but no fracture, according to head coach Matt Nagy. A timetable for his return has not been disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This looked like it might be bad when it happened so good news compared to what we thought might be the situation.

SEA - WR Doug Baldwin will play Week 1

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin (knee) has been progressing as expected and will be ready to play in Week 1, according to head coach Pete Carroll.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pete Carroll is the definition of optimistic but we love to hear news like this on Baldwin. We're still leery. But this is obviously good news.

WAS - RB Adrian Peterson might play

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper

Washington Redskins RB Adrian Peterson is in great shape and has a chance to play this weekend if he is caught up to speed, according to head coach Jay Gruden.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Peterson was just signed and it would be a bit of a surprise to see him on the field against the Broncos on Friday. If he does play, the seasoned veteran would likely get only a few touches. Peterson is going to be in the mix to be the primary ball carrier for Washington. Chris Thompson remains as the team's change-of-pace back.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker could miss first week

    Source: ESPN.com - Cameron Wolfe

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (finger) still can't catch the ball and won't play this week. His Week 1 status is up in the air, according to head coach Adam Gase.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Parker has been a disappointing player during his pro career with injuries and inconsistencies plaguing his game. Fantasy GMs aren't high on his prospects this season and this injury doesn't help that matter. He's currently going off the board at WR51 (11.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

MIN - RB Dalvin Cook could play

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Ben Goessling

Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook's (knee) status is uncertain for now, but offensive coordinator John DeFilippo said the Vikings are looking forward to 'possibly' seeing him play.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cook's rookie season in 2017 was cut short by this knee injury. He's been on the road to recovery since then and reports indicate Cook is ahead of schedule. Less than a year removed from the injury, there's no need for the Vikings to rush him back. If he does play, don't expect Cook to see a ton of reps. Fantasy GMs like him as a low-end RB1 with upside in 2018. Cook has a current ADP of RB10 (2.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.

NYG - RB Saquon Barkley unlikely to play Friday

    Source: SNY - Ralph Vacchiano

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (hamstring) is 'doing more and more each day,' according to head coach Pat Shurmur, who added Barkley is unlikely to play n the team's Week 3 preseason game versus the New York Jets on Friday Aug. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Barkley should be the centerpiece for the Giants offense in 2018. There's no need to rush him back during the rest of the preseason. If he doesn't play in Week 3 of the preseason then he's unlikely to play in the preseason finale when mostly players on the bubble play. This injury may drop Barkley's ADP just a tad, but he's currently sitting at RB6 (1.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

PHI - QB Nick Foles likely to play first half Thursday

    Source: NJ.com - Eliot Shorr-Parks

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles (shoulder) will probably play 'the whole first half' in the team's Week 3 preseason game against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday, Aug. 23.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's good news for the Eagles that his shoulder injury was not more serious. Foles will play a half against the Browns then we should see an interesting third-string/developmental quarterback (Nate Sudfeld) take over. If someone trades for Foles, then Sudfeld would be the no.2 quarterback behind Carson Wentz.

JAX - TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins locked in as starter

    Source: FirstCoastNews.com - Mike Kaye

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins is 'clearly locked in as the starting tight end,' according to Mike Kaye of FirstCoastNews.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Seferian-Jenkins has flashed a bit during his pro career and he's always had a physical skill set that could translate to pro success. Perhaps it all comes together for him this year with the Jaguars. Seferian-Jenkins is not getting drafted in most formats but we could see him finishing the year as a low-end TE2. In super deep leagues he's worth keeping an eye on, and Seferian-Jenkins should be on the waiver wire speed dial.

PIT - WR Eli Rogers suspended

    Source: Steelers.com

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Eli Rogers is suspended without pay for the first game of the regular season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rogers is recovering from a torn ACL suffered last year in the playoffs. He doesn't have much fantasy relevance as the fifth (at best) option for the Steelers at wide receiver.

LAC - WR Tyrell Williams not practicing

    Source: ESPN.com - Eric D. Williams

Los Angeles Chargers WR Tyrell Williams (foot) was not able to practice due to foot soreness. Head coach Anthony Lynn said Williams will be OK.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see how much second-year pro Mike Williams cuts into Tyrell's numbers in 2018. He's competing to be the no2 option in the passing game behind Keenan Allen. Fantasy GMs are taking Tyrell Williams super late hoping he can pay off as a 'lottery ticket' pick. Williams has a current ADP of WR68 (14.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

PHI - RB Donnel Pumphrey full go

    Source: CSNPhilly.com - Reuben Frank

Philadelphia Eagles RB Donnel Pumphrey (hamstring) said he is back to full health and will practice later this week when the Eagles return from their Week 3 preseason game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pumphrey needs to stay healthy to flash what he can do at the pro level. The second-year pro missed all of his rookie season in 2017 due to a hamstring injury. He was catching a ton of passes and turning heads earlier this offseason, but here he is again banged up with a hamstring. The FBS all-time leading rusher could make it as a change-of-pace back behind starter Jay Ajayi if he could stay healthy and impress. Pumphrey is on the roster bubble with only a couple of weeks left in August.

GB - RB Jamaal Williams back at practice

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Tom Silverstein

Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams (ankle) was spotted in pads and cleared to participate in practice Tuesday, Aug. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams is in the competition to be the Packers starting back. He's the most powerful runner on the roster, while guys like Ty Montgomery and Aaron Jones are better receivers and more explosive. Fantasy GMs are throwing darts when it comes to Packers backs with Williams (RB37, 8.02), Jones (RB40, 8.12) and Montgomery (RB43, 9.08) at this time.

NO - RB Terrance West released

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

New Orleans Saints RB Terrance West was released Tuesday, Aug. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

West has only been with the Saints for a couple of months but it wasn't enough to earn a spot through the preseason. Jonathan Williams should be the replacement for Mark Ingram while he's suspended four games. The Saints should use Alvin Kamara early and often at that time and this year as a whole. Fantasy GMs in super deep dynasty leagues should have been monitoring Williams as he's bounced around the league to a few teams.

TEN - WR Rishard Matthews agrees to extension

    Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates

Tennessee Titans WR Rishard Matthews agreed to a one-year extension Tuesday, Aug. 21, through 2019.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The extension is a team option with a base value of $7.75 million. Matthews will serve as the Titans no2 WR opposite Corey Davis. It's the best spot for him and Matthews can be a consistent target for QB Marcus Mariota when he's healthy. Matthews was not getting drafted in many leagues while he dealt with an undisclosed injury but he should be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. At full strength in this role, Matthews has WR5 potential...makes him a deep flex option in most formats.

NYJ - QB Teddy Bridgewater will cost a bundle

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating a previous report, New York Jets QB Teddy Bridgewater would have to command a 'significant deal' in order for the team to trade him, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bridgewater is looking good this preseason and reports are coming out that indicate he's 'hellbent' on being a starter again. We're rooting for the guy, and any team that adds him must know that he's more than a veteran backup. We'll see if someone is willing to pay what sounds like an inflated price.

Was watching the last game and the OC was giving Teddy some shyt plays to run. I hope he gets to go some where else to play. The league acts as though he is just another arm. I think he has a bright future provided he stays healthy.

    Thursday Update

CLE - WR Josh Gordon expected on field soon

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon should be on the practice field very soon, according to head coach Hue Jackson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gordon could get back to practicing this weekend. He's been working his way back since reporting to the team about a week ago. Gordon is not going to play in the team's Thursday Week 3 preseason game against the Eagles. He may not participate in Week 4 of the preseason either. Gordon has high upside if he's healthy and on the field. Right now, Fantasy GMs take him around WR22 (4.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

BUF - LeSean McCoy dealing with injury

    Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy (groin, hip) is considered day-to-day because of an injury to his groin and hip area, according to head coach Sean McDermott.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

These sound minor, but McCoy needs to be avoiding any reason for us to move him down the rankings with legal troubles hanging over him and a very inferior offense to the one he played in last year. We probably won't see him before the Week 1 matchup against Baltimore.

CLE - Baker Mayfield to start season on bench

Source: The Chronicle-Telegram - Scott Petrak

Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield (leg) will head to the bench when the regular season starts, but head coach Hue Jackson wants to see as much of him as possible during the remainder of the preseason. He is likely to play the entire second half in the third preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday, Aug. 23.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mayfield might have as much value as Tyrod Taylor if he takes over the offense mid-season, and he might support better fantasy values for his receivers. He is looking worthy of the #1 pick so far.

MIA - Mike Gesicki praised by teammate

    Source: ESPN.com - Cameron Wolfe

Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki has the potential to be a player in the mold of current Green Bay Packers TE Jimmy Graham, WR Kenny Stills said Wednesday, Aug. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Maybe Gesicki can do that in time, and he has flashed it in practice, but he hasn't shined in games yet. If you are going to take a rookie tight end late, Eagles second round pick Dallas Goedert is the guy you want.

NYG - RB Saquon Barkley remains out of practice

Source: The Bergen Record - Art Stapleton

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (hamstring) remains out of practice Wednesday, Aug. 22. He caught some stationary passes and continues his rehab work on the side.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Giants are going to be extremely cautious with Barkley. As long as we see him get in a full practice in the days leading up to Week 1, we shouldn't worry about his status or likelihood of re-injury.

BUF - QB AJ McCarron limited

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Buffalo Bills QB AJ McCarron (collarbone) will be limited in practice Wednesday, Aug. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It appears that #7 pick Josh Allen has passed McCarron on the depth chart at this point, but there's still a battle for the backup quarterback job with Nathan Peterman.

WAS - RB Samaje Perine works on side

Source: The Washington Post - Kareem Copeland

Washington Redskins RB Samaje Perine (ankle) worked on the side without pads Tuesday, Aug. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Perine once on the roster bubble, will now be on the bubble again with Adrian Peterson's addition. He was a fourth round pick last year, but it's obvious the team doesn't want him in a big role at this point.

WAS - RB Adrian Peterson's stay could be brief

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio

Washington Redskins RB Adrian Peterson is not considered a lock to make the 53-man roster with head coach Jay Gruden indicating Peterson is competing to be one of the team's 'first and second down guys.' Peterson's contract is not guaranteed unless he's on the active roster for Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Peterson could have as much to offer as Rob Kelley or Samaje Perine, or even more. The team signed him because they were impressed with his conditioning, and he was running behind a weak line in a poor situation last year. He's worth a last round pick to see what happens, and at worst have a valuable spot to use in the Week 2 waiver wire run.

TEN - WR Rishard Matthews moving closer to return

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans WR Rishard Matthews (undisclosed) is making progress in his recovery and hopefully will be back on the field shortly, according to head coach Mike Vrabel.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is still being told in uncertain terms, which is not a great sign for Matthews this close to the season beginning. He has missed the new offense install and Taywan Taylor has been outstanding on the outside in his stead. He might be a role player to begin the season and if he has additional problems with whatever the issue has been for the last three months, he's probably not going to be anything more this year.

PHI - Lower body injury for RB Jay Ajayi

Source: The Philadelphia Inquirer - Zach Berman

Philadelphia Eagles RB Jay Ajayi (undisclosed) has been missing practice because of a lower body injury, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ajayi is set to be the lead back for the Eagles in 2018. They'll still use a form of RBBC but Ajayi has enough of a role to be a RB2 or flex play for Fantasy GMs. He's going off the board at RB21 (4.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

BAL - Lamar Jackson taking too many hits

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson has not slid in any of the preseason games, and offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said he is concerned that Jackson is taking too many hits. Mornhinweg said he would like Jackson to slide when he is in between the numbers and run out of bounds when he is outside the numbers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

All signs point to Jackson being the backup, or perhaps the team even keeping Robert Griffin III to make this a pure redshirt year for the first-round pick. Joe Flacco is entrenched as the starter.

NE - Jordan Matthews could be option for Pats

Source: NFL Network - Mike Giardi

Free-agent WR Jordan Matthews (hamstring) could be an option for the New England Patriots, but nothing likely would happen between the two sides until October, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Matthews wouldn't be added until Julian Edelman was back in this timeline, which isn't good for his eventual fantasy ceiling. He's off of our radar.

    NYJ - Terrelle Pryor a game-time decision

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets WR Terrelle Pryor (ankle) will be a game-time decision for the third preseason game, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pryor is probably only going to make the team because of guaranteed money. It's fair to wonder if we have seen the best of him. He's not an essential hold in dynasty leagues.

TEN - Delanie Walker still nursing toe injury

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans TE Delanie Walker (toe) missed practice again on Wednesday, Aug. 22, as he continues to nurse a toe injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Walker is aiming to be healthy for Week 1 and the terrific tight end matchup against the green Dolphins linebackers. If Walker is limited in the game, 2017 third-round pick Jonnu Smith could have a big Week 1. Monitor Walker's practice participation leading up to the game.

NE - Kenny Britt to be released

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

The New England Patriots are expected to release WR Kenny Britt, sources reported Wednesday, Aug. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team had big plans for Britt when they signed him during the season last year, but his hamstring kept Britt from being able to follow through. This gives Cordarrelle Patterson and Phillip Dorsett a clearer path to snaps, targets, and possible fantasy relevance while Julian Edelman is serving a four-game suspension.

SEA - Rashaad Penny has ballooned

    Source: ESPN.com - Brady Henderson

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny has added 16 pounds to his frame since the NFL Combine, going from 220 pounds to 236 pounds.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This isn't usually good news for a running back, but it isn't necessarily bad. Penny is still a speculative pick with Chris Carson cemented in as the Week 1 starter.

    KC - Charcandrick West released

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West was released Wednesday, Aug. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is a vote of confidence in the health of Spencer Ware to be the backup to Kareem Hunt, and it could give Hunt more involvement in the passing game. West is competent and could get a call in season if running back injuries pile up around the league.

BAL - RB Kenneth Dixon, others idle

Source: The Athletic - Jeff Zrebiec

Baltimore Ravens RB Kenneth Dixon (undisclosed), TE Mark Andrews (undisclosed), OT Ronnie Stanley (knee) and OT James Hurst (undisclosed) are out of practice Wednesday, Aug. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dixon has played well in limited preseason action, but has had trouble staying on the practice field. If he makes the team, he could contribute and grow his role with his play, but it isn't a sure thing yet that he makes the team.

ATL - WR Julio Jones, RB Devonta Freeman to be held out

    Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones and RB Devonta Freeman will not play in either of the last two preseason games, according to head coach Dan Quinn. Quinn said he did not want either to play in the preseason because of their injury histories.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

They know what they have in this duo. Hopefully the offense will be better in year two under Steve Sarkisian and get them back to their Kyle Shanahan era production levels.

ATL - PK Matt Bryant to start kicking again

    Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure

Atlanta Falcons PK Matt Bryant (undisclosed) will kick during practice Wednesday, Aug. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bryant kicked in practice last week, but did not play in the second preseason game. While he has been ranked as a Top 5 kicker, if he doesn't kick in the third preseason game, he'll be a risky proposition at any ADP.

mortified that Aguayo looks like he will win the kicking job for the Chargers after last year's kicker issues.

    Friday Update

CLE - QB Tyrod Taylor briefly leaves game then returns

    Source: ClevelandBrowns.com

Cleveland Browns QB Tyrod Taylor (hand) left the preseason game early Thursday, Aug. 23, because of a left hand injury but was able to return to the game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

When the injury it happened, it looked bad enough that we sent an update to you letting you know about it. But fortunately, Taylor returned quickly and went back in the game.

CLE - WR Josh Gordon may play in finale

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon may play in the final preseason game if he is cleared to practice in the next few days, according to head coach Hue Jackson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gordon could use some reps and we would like to see him a bit before the season kicks off. As he has come closer to returning, his ADP rose, and it currently sits at 23rd receiver off the board. We think he's safe at this ADP and the upside is pretty huge. Gordon could easily outstrip that if Tyrod Taylor plays well and the offense clicks like we think it can.

PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger on track to play

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Gerry Dulac

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger will play in the third preseason game after sitting out the first two preseason games, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With the weapons he has, Roethlisberger is always going to put up some decent fantasy points. However, you know he will miss some time and further, he has absolutely started showing his age. The negatives make him a QB2, but his overall ability and weapons make him a high QB2 for fantasy owners and a reliable option once the surefire QB1s are gone.

PIT - WR Antonio Brown a game-time decision

Source: NFL Network - Aditi Kinkhabwala

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown (quadriceps) has been limited during practice this week and will be a game-time decision for the third preseason game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We don't need to see anything from fantasy football's number one wide receiver. Neither do the Fantasy GMs who are presently taking him as the first receiver and one of the first five picks overall in drafts.

ARI - QB Josh Rosen on field Thursday

    Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals QB Josh Rosen (thumb) was on the field during practice Thursday, Aug. 23, but did not appear to be throwing during the open portion of practice.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rosen isn't likely to see the field any time soon, but we all know Sam Bradford is a fragile quarterback. So if you have Bradford as a backup on your fantasy squad, you'd better have Rosen or another solid backup to your backup on speed dial. Generally speaking we wouldn't trust Bradford on our roster due to injury history and his general play, which is mostly average. His ADP of 32nd quarterback overall makes us feel most Fantasy GMs agree.

NYG - Odell Beckham moving closer to deal?

    Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. has made some progress in contract extension talks with the Giants, and both sides believe a deal could be agreed to before the start of the regular season, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This will get done. In the meanwhile, don't get scared off Beckham, who is arguably the best receiver in the NFL and absolutely one of the top two in fantasy.

LAR - QB Jared Goff uncertain for Saturday

    Source: ESPN.com - Lindsey Thiry

Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff (rest) is uncertain for the team's next preseason game Saturday, Aug. 25, against the Houston Texans, according to head coach Sean McVay.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's no reason for Goff to play, though more time to acclimate with Brandin Cooks is always good. Goff isn't reliable enough for a QB1 spot, but he's a solid QB2 with upside and his ADP of 15th quarterback off the board is right about where it should be. With the weapons he has, in his second year in this offense, he could outperform it too.

TEN - TE Delanie Walker sits again

    Source: PaulKuharsky.com - Paul Kuharsky

Tennessee Titans TE Delanie Walker (toe) did not participate in practice Thursday, Aug. 23.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Despite the injury, which has kept him on ice for a lot of the last few weeks, he is still coming off the board as the 7th tight end in fantasy drafts. We think he'll be fine, but make sure you have a solid option to back him up.

NYG - 'Not a doubt' WR Cody Latimer is No. 3 WR

    Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants WR Cody Latimer will be the team's No. 3 wide receiver going into the season and there's 'not a doubt' in that declaration, according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There are so many mouths to feed here, we don't expect Latimer to make a splash. He's a big dude with a nice catch radius but he's behind fellow wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr and Sterling Shepard, as well as tight end Evan Engram and rookie running back Saquon Barkley. There's just too much in front of him which is why he's going undrafted in fantasy drafts, and rightfully so.

TEN - WR Rishard Matthews had surgery

    Source: PaulKuharsky.com - Paul Kuharsky

Tennessee Titans WR Rishard Matthews (knee) had surgery earlier this month to repair a torn meniscus in his knee but could be activated from the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list as soon as next week, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Meanwhile, Corey Davis and Taywan Taylor, as well as Tajae Sharpe have all performed well in his absence and even if Matthews comes back, he's likely to be an afterthought. Even at an ADP of 56th receiver off the board, we are hesitant on him.

MIN - RB Dalvin Cook preparing to play Friday

Source: The Associated Press - Jon Krawczynski

Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook (knee) is 'preparing to play' in the team's next preseason game Friday, Aug. 24, against the Seattle Seahawks. It would be his first game action since tearing his anterior cruciate ligament last October.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We don't expect to see him a ton in his first game back but Cook is looking like a guy who could have a tremendous season. Currently the 10th back off the board in fantasy drafts, and the 14th player overall, Cook is pricey but the upside is tremendous.

PIT - TE Vance McDonald hopes to play in opener

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Vance McDonald (foot) said he hopes to able to play in Week 1 but does not want to go into detail regarding his foot injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McDonald has been out since mid-July. He's not anyone we are wasting a roster spot on right now, especially with as many other options as the Steelers have.

GB - QB Aaron Rodgers not expected to play

Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is not expected to play in the third preseason game, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We saw how bad the team was without him last year, so why risk him now? Nobody needs to see more of him to know he is arguably the top fantasy option at the position nor that the 27th overall player selection is worth it for his fantasy services. The team does need to figure out if Brett Hundley or DeShone Kizer are worth keeping as they won't have both on the roster, so we will see a lot of them.

BUF - QB AJ McCarron does some throwing

    Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills QB AJ McCarron (collarbone) did some light throwing during individual drills Thursday, Aug. 23.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It seems like there was just enough time to give rookie Josh Allen the edge in this battle. We won't have either one on a redraft roster this year, even though Allen at least has upside.

IND - RB Marlon Mack uncertain for Week 1

Source: The Athletic - Stephen Holder

Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack's (hamstring) status for Week 1 is uncertain at this point, but head coach Frank Reich said the team is optimistic about his timetable.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Could this be a chance for Nyheim Hines? The third round rookie has done well in camp and is really versatile, which gives him enough value to hover at 54th running back selected in drafts. Mack is a more traditional looking back (and is going as the 34th back off the board) and if he returns, is likely more what the Colts want as a lead back. It's worth watching Hines though, especially with Robert Turbin suspended to start the season.

LAR - RB Todd Gurley no go for preseason

    Source: ESPN.com - Lindsey Thiry

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (rest) will not play at all this preseason, according to head coach Sean McVay.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nobody needs to see Gurley and the Rams are just being cautious. It's a marathon for them, not a sprint and for a Super Bowl hopeful, they need all their horses to have a shot at the big game. He's going off the board as the first back and first pick overall in drafts and well worth the price in this dynamic offense.

DAL - Consecutive practices for WR Cole Beasley

Source: The Athletic - Calvin Watkins

Dallas Cowboys WR Cole Beasley (groin) is participating in his second consecutive practice Thursday, Aug. 23.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

As rookie Michael Gallup shines and Allen Hurns gets settled, Beasley seems to have seen his star fade. His ADP hovers at 88 for receivers and 275 overall, which is enough to make us think that Fantasy GMs are as cool to him as we are.

    Saturday Update

NYG - TE Evan Engram suffers concussion

BAL - TE Mark Andrews has an opening

    Source: USA TODAY Fantasy Sports

Baltimore Ravens TE Mark Andrews has a chance to start with TE Hayden Hurst (foot) out three to four weeks with a stress fracture in his foot.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Andrews is a rookie (like Hurst) and can create mismatches as a receiver. A third-round pick out of Oklahoma, Andrews was one of Baker Mayfield's favorite targets in college. Andrews plays like a super-sized receiver and should not be asked to block. We love his dynasty stock but are not as interested in him in re-draft leagues as we were about Hurst.

BAL - TE Hayden Hurst out 3-4 weeks

Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo

Baltimore Ravens TE Hayden Hurst (foot) will undergo surgery to repair a stress fracture in his foot and will be out three to four weeks. He'll have a screw inserted into the foot.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hurst is likely to miss the start of the regular season and will be eased in some time in mid-September. He was looking good in training camp and the preseason, but now the Ravens have to look elsewhere. Guys like Mark Andrews, Maxx Williams and Nick Boyle will compete to fill the spot vacated by Hurst.

CLE - WR Josh Gordon cleared to do more

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon has been cleared to participate in walkthroughs during practice starting Saturday, Aug. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's all part of the process for getting Gordon back onto the field for the Browns. If healthy (and not suspended), Gordon has the talent to be one of the best receivers in the game. Fantasy GMs are taking Gordon off the board at WR21 (4.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

CLE - QB Tyrod Taylor suffered dislocated finger

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns QB Tyrod Taylor (finger) was diagnosed with a dislocated left pinky finger Friday, Aug. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Taylor missed some time with this injury but came back in and played. He's still in line to begin the regular season as the starter for the Browns. At some point the team should turn things over to no.1 overall pick Baker Mayfield.

CHI - RB Jordan Howard expected to be three-down back

Source: Chicago Tribune - Brad Biggs

Chicago Bears RB Jordan Howard will stay on the field on third down this season, according to head coach Matt Nagy.'We'll do different things with (Howard) and we'll keep him on the field on third down - I've told you that before,' Nagy said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Howard has worked diligently this offseason to be a better receiver in anticipation of more passes getting thrown his way. Fantasy GMs are taking Howard off the board at RB13 (2.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

HOU - D'Onta Foreman likely to start on PUP list?

Source: Houston Chronicle - John McClain

Houston Texans RB D'Onta Foreman (Achilles') likely will start the regular season on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list, in the opinion of the Houston Chronicle's John McClain.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Foreman injured his Achilles' last November and has been working his way back since then. Reports were somewhat positive (although vague) earlier this month, but it sounds like he may not be ready to begin the regular season. Foreman would miss the first six weeks of the season if he is on the PUP list.

NE - RB Rex Burkhead, RB Sony Michel out Friday

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots RBs Rex Burkhead (knee) and Sony Michel (knee) are not expected to play in the preseason game Friday, Aug. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Reports out of New England state the Patriots are going to be overly cautious with Burkhead as he's seen as a featured player for their offense and there's no need to aggravate his knee injury in a preseason game. Michel might be ready for the start of the regular season but the rookie first-round pick will have a lot to catch up on before he plays a significant role in the Patriots offense.

ARI - QB Josh Rosen a game-time decision

    Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals QB Josh Rosen (thumb) was able to do some throwing during practice Friday, Aug. 24, and will be a game-time decision for the third preseason game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see if the rookie first-round pick can get out there for the Cardinals in the dress rehearsal for the regular season aka Week 3 of the preseason. He's the quarterback of the future but we will see Sam Bradford begin the regular season as the Cardinals starter.

NYJ - NYJ inks RB Charcandrick West

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

Free-agent RB Charcandrick West (Chiefs) signed an undisclosed deal with the New York Jets on Friday, Aug. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That didn't take long. West was only on the market for a couple of days after the Chiefs released him. He's a good pass-catching option out of the backfield, and the Jets have been looking for better depth behind Isaiah Crowell and Bilal Powell.

BUF - RB LeSean McCoy could be held out Sunday

    Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy (groin) may not play in the team's third preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, Aug. 26, due to groin soreness.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's smart for the Bills to take it easy on the veteran back. McCoy's ADP is much lower than it usually is as Fantasy GMs are nervous about him still being placed on the Commissioner Exempt List. He's going off the board at RB16 (3.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

    Hi Folks,

News from the Giants you need to know. NY Newsday's Bob Glauber just reported, "Giants announce TE Evan Engram is out for the game with a concussion."

We'll see how this progresses. Engram took a hard hit sandwiched between two defenders. We've had Engram ranked as our #6 TE on the board so this is definitely something to watch. It would also be a big negative of course to Eli Manning if Engram were to miss time. Stay tuned.

    Sunday Update

JAX - WR Marqise Lee carted off

    Source: Jaguars.com - John Oehser

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Marqise Lee (knee, leg) was carted off the field with an apparent knee and/or leg injury in Week 3 of the preseason Saturday, Aug. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This looked like a potentially serious injury but it's too early to make any significant proclamations on the impact NFL or fantasy-wise. But we'll keep a close eye on you and have analysis when there is more information.

CLE - WR Josh Gordon likely to sit out preseason

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon (hamstring) probably will not be able to play in the final preseason game because of his hamstring injury, but the team is hoping Gordon will be ready for Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gordon's upside is massive, though his baggage is pretty significant. We're bullish on him, and think Tyrod Taylor is going to do right by him. He's tracking an ADP of 23rd receiver overall off the board, which shows Fantasy GMs have as many concerns as we do, though if he hits his upside, he'll likely outplay that spot. He carries plenty of risk given his off-field issues though.

NYG - TE Evan Engram in protocol

Source: New York Post - Paul Schwartz

New York Giants TE Evan Engram (concussion) is going through the concussion protocol after he suffered a concussion in the preseason game Friday, Aug. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Provided that he works through the protocol without setback, Engram should be ready for the start of the regular season. As a rookie in 2017, Engram also had a concussion (Week 2 against the Lions) but didn't miss any playing time due to that injury.

SF - RB Alfred Morris a pleasant surprise

    Source: NFL

San Francisco 49ers RB Alfred Morris ran for 84 yards on 17 carries in his first game as a 49er Saturday, Aug. 25, against the Indianapolis Colts.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Matt Breida and Jerick McKinnon are out so Morris gets the nod and shows why he still could be a value for NFL teams and Fantasy GMs. He's not being drafted at all in standard redraft leagues which makes sense as McKinnon is expected back in Week 1, but he's someone worth a very late flier or keeping an eye on off the waiver wire if he makes the roster.

IND - TE Eric Ebron lights up stat card

    Source: NFL

Indianapolis Colts TE Eric Ebron managed five catches for 54 yards and a score Saturday, Aug. 25, against the San Francisco 49ers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ebron has teased plenty of times before but it looks like this time Fantasy GMs aren't biting, as he is tracking at an ADP of 22nd tight end off the board and 190th player overall. We think outperforms that, which makes him a value at his current price.

IND - QB Andrew Luck solid in dress rehearsal

    Source: NFL

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck threw for 90 yards and a touchdown in what was the best game of his preseason Saturday, Aug. 25, versus the San Francisco 49ers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

At this point, it seems that like John Wick, Andrew Luck is back and appears to be as deadly as the assassin from those movies. Luck looks like the old Luck and that has to make most Fantasy players happy. His offensive line might even keep him upright this season, making his ADP of 9th overall quarterback taken seem like a pretty solid value.

TEN - QB Marcus Mariota struggles

    Source: NFL

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota threw his first interception of the preseason and was noticeably off target in limited playing time Saturday, Aug. 25, against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Preseason is when you want mistakes because it's a safe time to fix them and learn from them. We aren't worried he looked off, it was bound to happen. We'd like to see him bounce back from a bad 2017, but we aren't ready to go all in on him. His ADP of 18th receiver overall marks him as someone GMs are thinking will be a solid QB2 and we agree.

CHI - WR Kevin White finds end zone

    Source: NFL.com

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White caught two passes for 33 yards and one touchdown in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

White has talent but not much durability, and has played just five games in two years, catching just 21 balls for 193 yards. That's not a resume to get excited about, and we are not recommending having him on your roster even in deeper leagues.

CHI - WR Taylor Gabriel able to play

    Source: NFL.com

Chicago Bears WR Taylor Gabriel (foot) caught one pass for 10 yards in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The injury history of Kevin White and the unknown of Allen Robinson's recovery leave the door open for Gabriel to do more than what we initially expected when the Bears signed Robinson and then drafted Anthony Miller. That said, we don't have enough faith in the offense to think it will amount to much, though he is worth keeping an eye on in case injuries strike.

KC - RB Spencer Ware makes preseason debut

    Source: KCChiefs.com - B.J. Kissel

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (knee) made his preseason debut Saturday, Aug. 25 against the Chicago Bears. He ran three times for three yards while adding two grabs for 18 yards on three targets.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With Kareem Hunt and coming off a torn PCL and LCL in 2017, Ware isn't expected to have much of an impact. Damien Williams and Kerwynn Williams are in town now and will be passing down backs, and we aren't sure what the pecking order would be if Hunt goes down. At this point, we'd avoid picking any of them up, even as a handcuff.

KC - RB Kareem Hunt scores before checking out

    Source: 1 No Source

Kansas City Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt ran three times for seven yards in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 25 against the Chicago Bears while adding a 19-yard touchdown on his only catch and target.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hunts production in 2017 paralleled the health of his line. When it was good, he totaled at least 100 yards from scrimmage, and when they were hurting, he failed to do so. His ADP is s 7th back off the board, which means Fantasy GMs believe he will see more of the former than the latter this year.

KC - WR Tyreek Hill in midseason form

    Source: 1 No Source

Kansas City Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill posted eight receptions for 88 yards on his eight targets in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 25 against the Chicago Bears.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hill had an exceptional 2017, and we believe with Pat Mahomes under center he could be as good. Sammy Watkins and Travis Kelce might eat into his targets a bit, keeps him from being a sure bet as a WR1. His ADP is as the 10th receiver off the board, so Fantasy GMs see the potential in him though, and are deeming his upside worth the risk.

KC - Patrick Mahomes sharp in preseason loss

    Source: 1 No Source

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes completed 18 of his 24 pass attempts for 196 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 25 against the Chicago Bears.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mahomes has looked good so far in the preseason, and his big arm should allow him to make some significant plays. That said, with the big plays will occasionally come big mistakes, since his gunslinger mentality involves a lot of risks.

CLE - QB Baker Mayfield to play Thursday

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield will play in the preseason finale against the Detroit Lions on Thursday, Aug. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mayfield looks like he is on the right track, but the Browns look determined to stick with Tyrod Taylor for now. Drafting Mayfield now doesn't make any sense in redraft, as he may not see the field any time soon. Keep an eye on him for later in the season, though, as if the Browns struggle - and they are likely to - the team will give Mayfield a shot.

CLE - WR Antonio Callaway returns to practice

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns WR Antonio Callaway (groin) was able to return to the practice field on Saturday, Aug. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Callaway was held out of the team's third preseason game due to this injury. Groin injuries can linger if not given time to heal, and Callaway needs to be at full strength in order to showcase his amazing explosiveness with the ball in his hands. Josh Gordon's return does take some fantasy value away from the rookie, but he should see time in three-WR sets with Gordon and Jarvis Landry.

CLE - No practice for TE David Njoku

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns TE David Njoku (ankle) did not practice Saturday, Aug. 25 due to an ankle injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Njoku won't play in the final preseason game, so he wraps up the exhibition portion of the calendar with six catches, 71 yards and two touchdowns. We love his natural athleticism and strength at the position, and the Browns should feature him in their passing game along with target hog Jarvis Landry. Njoku is getting drafted as a borderline TE1 by Fantasy GMs right now (TE11, 9.07), but the upside to be an every week starter is there in 2018.

CLE - QB Tyrod Taylor practices on Saturday

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns quarterback Tyrod Taylor (finger) is practicing on Saturday, Aug. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Taylor missed a few snaps after sustaining the injury, but he was able to come back into the game. His left hand is wrapped after suffering a dislocated pinkie finger against the Philadelphia Eagles in a preseason game on Thursday, Aug. 23. His status for Week 1 of the regular season is not in doubt. Taylor is the Browns starter for the beginning of the season, but we know Baker Mayfield is set to take over as their franchise quarterback at some point.

    Hi Folks,

Bad news for Jacksonville and wide receiver Marqise Lee. He suffered an ugly looking knee injury in tonight's game. It's usually unwise to make too much of a judgement from just the video but this looked bad with his knee bending at a gruesome angle. Hoping for the best for him.
