NFL Player News - Week of 7/31/17

BAL - TE Crockett Gillmore set for surgery Monday

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

Baltimore Ravens TE Crockett Gillmore (knee) will undergo surgery Monday, July 31 to repair a meniscus tear, according to a source. A timetable for his return will not be established until the operation is concluded.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ben Watson is set up as the #1 tight end right now, with third-year tight end Maxx Williams a potential impact player if his knee is sound. Larry Donnell has been added now too. Solid two-way tight end Nick Boyle could also play a large role and free agent Gary Barnidge is still out there if the Ravens are unhappy with what they have.

TB - RB Jacquizz Rodgers could beat out RB Doug Martin?

    Source: ESPN.com - Jenna Laine

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers has received plenty of praise from teammates and coaches about exceptional vision, toughness and his versatility, according to ESPN's Jenna Laine, who adds 'there's always the possibility' Rodgers could remain the starter after Doug Martin returns from his three-game suspension to begin the season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rodgers has been workmanlike and steady when the Bucs have asked him to do more, but his ability to hold up for a long stretch of games under a heavy workload is unkown. As long as Martin returns to 2015 form, he should be the starter when he returns in Week 4.

DAL - RB Rod Smith working ahead of RB Alfred Morris

    Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Dallas Cowboys RB Rod Smith continues to work ahead of Alfred Morris as the third running back, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Morris seems to be on the roster bubble, and unlike Smith, he can't contribute at fullback. If Ezekiel Elliott doesn't get suspended, Morris is more likely to be on the outside looking in when the season begins.

BUF - Buffalo backing Jonathan Williams as RB2

    Source: WKBW.com - Joe Buscaglia

Buffalo Bills RB Jonathan Williams will get 'every opportunity' to win the backup job behind LeSean McCoy, according to WKBW's Joe Buscaglia.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills have one of the best running games in the league, and outside of Mike Tolbert, they have no other proven runners on the roster. This is an important situation to watch for handcuffing/end game in deeper leagues or keeping your waiver wire speed dial list up to date in case of a McCoy injury.

LAC - Mike Williams expected to miss rest of camp

Source: Los Angeles Daily News - Jack Wang

Los Angeles Chargers WR Mike Williams (back) will continue to rehab and strengthen his back but is not expected to practice at all during training camp, according to a statement released by the team Sunday, July 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

At this point it would be surprising if Williams played in the preseason, and starting the year on the PUP is a real possibility, if not probable. He's off of our redraft boards.

DAL - RB Ezekiel Elliott met with league officials

    Source: NFL.com

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott met with NFL officials within the last month regarding the league's year-long investigation into multiple incidents involving him, according to owner Jerry Jones. It remains uncertain if Elliott will be punished in any way, although two people who have seen the report submitted by the NFL to the NFLPA claim there were no recommendations made for disciplinary action.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Expectations range from 1-2 games to 6-8 games in a worst-case scenario. The Cowboys signing of Ronnie Hillman isn't the most encouraging sign, but Hillman is more camp depth than a threat to Darren McFadden's hold on the backup job.

CIN - Joe Mixon sees first-team reps

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Paul Dehner Jr. and Jim Owczarski

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon was used in a variety of scenarios and saw some first-team reps during practice Saturday, July 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mixon has the upside of a superstar in this league. He's competing for the starting job, and we expect the rookie to win it in camp. Mixon has RB1 upside for fantasy owners, but he's got a RB2 price. His current ADP is RB16 (4.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

BAL - Baltimore may work out Robert Griffin

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

The Baltimore Ravens are considering the possibility of working out free-agent QB Robert Griffin III (Browns), according to owner Steve Bisciotti.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Colin Kaepernick is also a possibility and we'll see where that goes. Griffin hasn't been able to stay healthy in games for years, but he could help the team with practice and preseason reps while Joe Flacco recovers. If he has to start any games in the regular season for the Ravens, they are in trouble.

BAL - TE Larry Donnell finds new home in Baltimore

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

Free-agent TE Larry Donnell (Giants) signed an undisclosed contract with the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, July 30. To make room for him on the roster, the Ravens waived WR Tim Patrick.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Donnell is a functional receiver, but had fumble problems and isn't a plus athlete at the position. Still, with Ben Watson coming back from achilles surgery and Maxx Williams from knee surgery, the team needs bodies for camp and preseason, and maybe the regular season.

JAX - QB Blake Bortles making mistakes

    Source: The Florida Times-Union - Ryan O'Halloran

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles threw five interceptions during team drills Saturday, July 29, and head coach Doug Marrone said they would take a look at the plays.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

In equally surprising news, it was warm in Jacksonville this weekend. Hopefully, the team has time to get him on the right track. Word is they're going to use Bortles less this year as they lean on their ground game with rookie RB Leonard Fournette.

PHI - Injury scare for WR Alshon Jeffery

    Source: ESPN.com - Tim McManus

Philadelphia Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery (shoulder) was examined by trainers after landing on his shoulder during practice Saturday, July 29, but he returned and said afterward that he was fine.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That would be bad news for Eagles fans, but it looks like everything is okay. Jeffery signed a one-year "prove it" deal with the Eagles earlier this year, and he provides the team with a weapon that QB Carson Wentz can go to early and often. He's going off the board at WR19 (4.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker looking strong

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker is in 'phenomenal shape' and has shown good timing with QB Ryan Tannehill, head coach Adam Gase said Saturday, July 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Parker's got the upside to be a 1,000-yard receiver but fantasy owners want to see him be more consistent. Last year he improved on his numbers, but Parker only broke 100 yards once and there were eight games when he didn't even top 50. His current ADP is WR37 (8.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

HOU - Houston won't rotate QBs

Source: USA TODAY Sports - Lorenzo Reyes

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage and QB Deshaun Watson won't be used in a two-quarterback system, head coach Bill O'Brien said Saturday, July 29. 'I'm not going to alternate quarterbacks in and out of there,' O'Brien said. 'I don't think that's good for the team.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Savage may be the frontrunner here due to his experience, but we're most excited to see what Watson can do at the pro level. The Texans selected Watson in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft for good reason -- the guy just makes plays under pressure and in the biggest moments. We'll see if Watson can show he's a quick study and win the starting job in camp.

PHI - RB Ryan Mathews continuing to rehab

    Source: NFL.com - Conor Orr

Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Mathews (neck) is continuing to rehab from a herniated disc in his neck away from the team.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mathews release as soon as he is healthy is seen as a foregone conclusion, and the team's moves at running back this offseason seem to match that take. He should be able to catch on with a running back-needy team soon after his eventual release.

PHI - QB Carson Wentz locked in

    Source: ESPN.com - Tim McManus
Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz completed all 25 of his passing attempts in 7-on-7 drills and all 15 of his passes in full-team drills during practice Saturday, July 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wentz is looking to avoid a sophomore slump. He went through struggles last year as his rookie season wore on, but Wentz has the upside to one day be a top-10 quarterback in the NFL.

    PIT - JuJu Smith-Schuster doesn't practice

Source: DK on Pittsburgh Sports - Mark Kaboly

Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (ankle) did not practice Saturday, July 29.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The rookie is going to get some time to heal. Smith-Schuster has Anquan Boldin-like ability -- especially after the catch and on contested catches. He's likely to be the no3 WR for the Steelers this year behind Antonio Brown and Martavis Bryant.

DET - TE Eric Ebron leaves practice early

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron (hamstring) left practice early Sunday, July 30, after he suffered an apparent hamstring injury, according to head coach Jim Caldwell.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ebron is set up for a larger role this year with Anquan Boldin no longer in Detroit, but injuries have kept him from fulfilling his potential in the past. Hopefully this is a short-term issue, but it's a bad omen for a player that has missed multiple games in every year of his career.

DEN - De'Angelo Henderson expected back

    Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis

Denver Broncos RB De'Angelo Henderson (ankle) is expected to return to practice Monday, July 31.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Henderson had generated some early camp buzz and Devontae Booker's wrist injury means there are valuable reps at running back up for grabs. Hopefully he will get back on the field as expected.

PIT - James Conner injures shoulder

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner (shoulder) suffered a shoulder injury during practice Sunday, July 30, and will be reevaluated in the near future, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Conner is set up for a very valuable backup role in fantasy football, but he can't seem to stay on the practice field. We can't be sure how serious this injury is, but with Le'Veon Bell not in camp, the Steelers are down to players like Knile Davis and Fitzgerald Toussaint at running back.

    Tuesday Update

DAL - No RB Ezekiel Elliott decision this week

Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott's fate is expected to remain undetermined this week, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The NFL will make you hurry up and wait. Some around the team feel that a 1-or-2 game suspension is looming for the superstar running back. Commissioner Roger Goodell is awaiting the final investigatory work from four outside advisers.

MIN - No timetable for RB Latavius Murray

Source: St. Paul Pioneer Press - Chris Tomasson

Minnesota Vikings RB Latavius Murray (ankle) does not have a specific timetable for when he will return from the Physically Unable to Perform list, although he did say it would be before the regular season starts.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That was the plan entering training camp, and that continues now after camp has started. The team signed Murray to a 3-year contract with $8.5 million guaranteed in free agency, but they had no way of knowing Dalvin Cook would fall to the second round of the 2017 NFL draft. We expect the rookie from Florida State to win the starting job for the Vikings, but Murray could mix in as a reserve player.

MIA - RB Jay Ajayi evaluated for concussion

    Source: ESPN.com - James Walker

Updating an earlier report, Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi (head) is being evaluated for a possible concussion, according to head coach Adam Gase.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners need to dial into this story. Ajayi is a top-10 fantasy RB who is regularly selected around the turn after round one in your fantasy draft. The team is sure to be cautious with Ajayi. Damien Williams and Kenyan Drake will get more time/touches while Ajayi is out.

LAC - Mike Williams could miss season

Source: Los Angeles Times - Dan Woike

Updating previous reports, Los Angeles Chargers WR Mike Williams (back) could be out for the entire season, according to head coach Anthony Lynn. When asked about the possibility, Lynn said: 'I'm hopeful that it's not, but who knows? It could be.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams is going to miss all of training camp as he recovers from this back injury. It's likely that he'll be put on the PUP list to start the regular season which would force him out the first six weeks. The Chargers are "cautiously optimistic" Williams will avoid season-ending surgery.

DEN - RB Jamaal Charles pegged for light work

    Source: MMQB - Peter King

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles is expected to receive eight to 10 touches per game this season if he makes the team. Charles said he has zero knee pain for now.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Charles is fully cleared for training camp, but the Broncos are being careful. The veteran running back has a chip on his shoulder about getting released by the Chiefs. Holding him back in camp is the best idea, but he might be fuming because of it. If healthy, Charles could at least be a Danny Woodhead-like back in the Mike McCoy system.

WAS - Coach impressed with WR Terrelle Pryor

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said he has been impressed with how WR Terrelle Pryor has picked up and retained information.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Pryor is big and fast and physical...so there's a lot to like. Still learning the wide receiver position, Pryor is competing to be the top target for Washington in 2017. He's betting on himself with a one-year, $6 million contract signed earlier this year. Pryor is safely a WR3 for fantasy owners his current ADP is that of a WR2 at WR16 (3.08) in 12-team PPR leagues.

IND - RB Frank Gore has ankle ailment

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Zak Keefer

Indianapolis Colts RB Frank Gore (ankle) was limited in practice Monday, July 31, with a minor ankle injury, according to head coach Chuck Pagano.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Robert Turbin is the first man up behind Gore, and there has been plenty of buzz about him getting more work in 2017 anyway. This is a minor ankle problem, so Gore should only miss a little bit of time. The seasoned veteran doesn't need a ton of work in training camp or the preseason. Rookie Marlon Mack could get some more work while Gore is on the mend.

NO - Alvin Kamara draws high praise

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Triplett

New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara's playing style resembles that of retired RB Marshall Faulk, head coach Sean Payton said Sunday, July 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That is high praise indeed. Kamara has a ton of talent as a runner and receiver out of the backfield, plus he's a noted touchdown hog from college. The problem is that he's buried on the depth chart behind Adrian Peterson and Mark Ingram. We love Kamara from a dynasty perspective and compare his skill set to that of Thomas Jones.

BAL - Baltimore has talked with QB Colin Kaepernick

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

The Baltimore Ravens have had direct discussions with free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers), team president Dick Cass said Sunday, July 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kaepernick starred under Jim Harbaugh during his time with the 49ers. Jim's brother John is the coach of the Ravens, so the connection is clear. The Ravens need a quarterback during camp with Joe Flacco banged up and Ryan Mallett stinking up the practice field. It's unclear if Kaepernick would join a team where he clearly doesn't have a shot at the starting job.

WAS - WR Jamison Crowder misses practice

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins WR Jamison Crowder (hamstring) did not participate in practice Monday, July 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Crowder is a quick-twitch athlete, so a hamstring injury can really plague his game. The team will wisely be cautious with Crowder as he works back. Crowder could be their leading receiver in 2017, and a 100-catch season isn't out of the question.

LAC - WR Keenan Allen doing well at camp

    Source: NFL.com - Gregg Rosenthal

Los Angeles Chargers WR Keenan Allen (knee) played well against CB Casey Hayward at training camp Monday, July 31.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for the Chargers and for fantasy owners here. Allen has WR1 upside if healthy, but staying healthy has been a problem during his pro career. He has been recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament he suffered early last season.

NYJ - RB Matt Forte hurt hamstring

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) tweaked his hamstring at training camp Monday, July 31, according to head coach Todd Bowles. He was subsequently held out of team drills.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Forte is a seasoned veteran who doesn't need every rep in camp. The team will limit his participation until he's closer to full strength.

KC - RB Charcandrick West has ankle injury

Source: The Kansas City Star - Terez A. Paylor

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (ankle) is out of practice Monday, July 31, due to an ankle injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

West was competing for a backup spot behind Spencer Ware. Now, it looks like rookie Kareem Hunt will push for snaps as the change-of-pace back. A third-round pick out of Toledo, Hunt has a good all-purpose skill set and can contribute as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. Hunt is good enough to eventually push for the starting job too.

IND - WR Donte Moncrief catching everything

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Zak Keefer

Indianapolis Colts WR Donte Moncrief has caught everything thrown at him the last two days of practice, according to beat writer Zak Keefer.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

So long as Andrew Luck is under center, Moncrief can be a fantasy factor. We like him as a WR3 who could catch around 60 catches in 2017 with six or seven touchdowns mixed in. He's WR33 (7.01) in 12-team PPR leagues right now.

NO - WR Brandon Coleman has Drew Brees' trust

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Triplett

New Orleans Saints WR Brandon Coleman has the trust of QB Drew Brees. 'There's really not a guy who I have more trust in than Brandon Coleman, honestly,' Brees said. 'I've played with him now for a long time, and I feel like he's a guy that can play every position. He can play X, he can play Z, and he can play inside. So his versatility in this offense is really good, he's a very smart player and he's been a guy who's just done whatever we needed him to do over the last few years.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's a lot to trust when a target is 6'6" 225 pounds. Coleman is a big man and has intriguing upside, but he's never been able to quite break through. He's the no4 WR on the Saints roster behind Michael Thomas, Willie Snead and Ted Ginn Jr.

SF - RB Carlos Hyde playing his way into role?

Source: Santa Rosa Press Democrat - Grant Cohn

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde has taken his performance to 'another level' during training camp and 'has given himself a chance to have a good season,' head coach Kyle Shanahan said Sunday, July 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hyde needs to stay healthy, but there's no question about his running ability. In a Shanahan system, Hyde could be quite valuable. However, there have been rumblings all offseason that Hyde may end up losing out on playing time to rookie Joe Williams. Hyde showed up at 228 pounds and seems to have dedicated himself this offseason. In a contract year, Hyde is forcing the team to warm up to him.

PIT - James Conner has shoulder evaluated

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner (shoulder) was sent to a Pittsburgh hospital Monday, July 31, to have his injured shoulder evaluated. Head coach Mike Tomlin said he is not sure about the severity of Conner's injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on this situation closely. Conner is set to be the primary backup behind Le'Veon Bell this year. If Bell is banged up, Conner would step into an incredibly fantasy relevant role with at least RB2 production.

SEA - WR Tyler Lockett on PUP for now

    Source: ESPN.com - Sheil Kapadia

Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett (leg) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list for the start of training camp, but head coach Pete Carroll said Sunday, July 30, that Lockett won't be on the PUP list for long.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Lockett needs to get healthy and the team is giving him plenty of time. He can come off the PUP list at any time in camp. When healthy, Lockett is a dangerous weapon that can make big plays in space.

    Wednesday Update

IND - Concern about QB Andrew Luck overblown?

Source: The Herald Bulletin - George Bremer

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (shoulder) is expected to come off the Physically Unable to Perform list before the regular season begins, according to The Herald Bulletin's George Bremer. As we reported Tuesday, Jason La Canfora created some buzz mentioning that he'd been hearing Luck might not be ready for the opening of the season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bremer is a Colts Beat Writer and the Sports Editor for the Herald Bulletin in Anderson, Indiana. He reported today, "For those asking, I'm told Chris Ballard's statement from last week stands. Luck expected to come off PUP before reg season begins." We'll continue to keep a close eye on this one for you.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed visiting specialist

    Source: Redskins.com

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (toe) is seeing a specialist about his toe injury, according to head coach Jay Gruden. There is no timetable yet for his return.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on this toe injury, and this latest story is not great news for Reed. He's known to get banged up quite a bit but when healthy Reed is a top-5 fantasy tight end. Reed might be considered week-to-week because of his injury and we doubt we see him much in the preseason.

BAL - TE Crockett Gillmore's season likely over

    Source: BaltimoreRavens.com

Updating previous reports, Baltimore Ravens TE Crockett Gillmore (knee) is likely out for the season after surgery to repair his medial collateral ligament. The recovery time is expected to be five months.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gillmore has talent but injuries have set him back during his pro career. With Gillmore likely out for the year and Dennis Pitta already gone, it opens up the door for Ben Watson to get more looks in 2017.

BAL - QB Joe Flacco's health improving

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio

Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco (back) is feeling better in regards to his ailing back, according to a source. It remains unclear when Flacco will return to action.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's unclear when he'll return, but most reports indicate Flacco will be prepped to play in the third preseason game. Their moves at quarterback (adding/subtracting camp arms) can be translated as they don't think this back problem will persist into the regular season.

CAR - WR Kelvin Benjamin checks in at 243 pounds

Source: The Charlotte Observer - Joseph Person

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin reported to training camp at 243 pounds - according to head coach Ron Rivera - after reportedly weighing 'about 270' in April, per Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Earlier this offseason, some reports had Benjamin weighing in near 280 pounds. This is an improvement, and we're sure Benjamin will continue to work on his conditioning. The Panthers are going to have a new-look passing attack with rookie RB Christian McCaffrey and rookie WR Curtis Samuel. Benjamin can still be a factor for QB Cam Newton (especially in the red zone), but we like him more as a low-end WR2 for fantasy owners in 2017.

LAR - RB Malcolm Brown may be No. 2 running back

    Source: ESPN.com - Alden Gonzalez

Los Angeles Rams RB Malcolm Brown has a chance to be the No. 2 running back for the Rams this season because head coach Sean McVay said that Brown has done a good job establishing himself in that role.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brown is a powerful and compact runner that has good burst with the ball in his hands. We could see him winning the primary backup job behind Todd Gurley in 2017. McVay has been pleasantly surprised with how Brown has performed so far during training camp.

DEN - RB Jamaal Charles to be more involved

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeff Legwold

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will receive more work during practice Wednesday, Aug. 2, according to head coach Vance Joseph.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Charles has been limited to individual work since camp began but is expected to participate in seven-on-seven drills this week and may participate in team drills next week. If healthy, Charles will compete to be a change-of-pace back behind C.J. Anderson. Charles thinks he can still be 'the man' but he hasn't been the same in two seasons trying to work through knee problems.

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets WR Robby Anderson (hamstring) returned to practice Tuesday, Aug. 1, after suffering a hamstring injury Monday, July 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Anderson is no lock for the no2 wide receiver job behind Quincy Enunwa. He's facing competition from rookie ArDarius Stewart and Charone Peake.

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini
Updating a previous report, New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) is day-to-day with a hamstring injury, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Forte is a seasoned veteran who doesn't need every rep in camp. The Jets will take it easy with their 31-year-old running back, especially since camp has just begun.

SEA - WR Tyler Lockett could return soon

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett (leg) could be removed from the Physically Unable to Perform list in a few days, according to head coach Pete Carroll. He participated in two workouts Tuesday, Aug. 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The PUP list in camp is not really a big deal as a player can come off at any time. If healthy, Lockett is a boom/bust big play receiver because of his run-after-the-catch ability. He's going off the board at WR63 (14.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

HOU - QB Deshaun Watson continues to impress

    Source: HoustonTexans.com

Houston Texans rookie QB Deshaun Watson is 'ahead of any rookie quarterback I've ever been around,' according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watson is competing with Tom Savage for the starting job in Houston. While Savage has the experience, Watson is the first-round pick that plays big in the most stressful moments of a game. The Texans will run the ball and play great defense, which limits how much they have to lean on the quarterback...no matter who it is.

CAR - QB Cam Newton dealing with sore shoulder

    Source: Panthers.com - Max Henson

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) sat out practice Tuesday, August 1, after reporting soreness in his surgically repaired right shoulder.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No need to rush things here with Newton. They'll limit him in camp if they need to, and we can't imagine Newton getting a ton of reps in preseason games.

BAL - WR Breshad Perriman idle Tuesday

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

Baltimore Ravens WR Breshad Perriman (hamstring) is out of practice Tuesday, Aug. 1, with hamstring tightness. It's not believed to be serious.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Perriman is a speed merchant, so the team needs to be cautious with a hamstring injury. If healthy, Perriman can take the top off the field while guys like Jeremy Maclin work the underneath routes.

PHI - WR Torrey Smith sits out

Philadelphia Eagles WR Torrey Smith (back) is out of practice Tuesday, Aug. 1, due to back spasms.

The Eagles are just being cautious with the veteran. When the spasms have cleared, Smith should be back in action.

Philadelphia Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery (shoulder) is out of practice Tuesday, Aug. 1, with a shoulder injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This doesn't sound like a major injury but a day of precaution for the Eagles. Jeffery signed a one-year 'prove it' deal with the Eagles this offseason and is set to become a favorite target for QB Carson Wentz in 2017.

BUF - RB LeSean McCoy out of practice

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy (illness) will miss practice Tuesday, Aug. 1, due to illness.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No big deal here. McCoy is going to be the centerpiece of the offense under new OC Rick Dennison. In the zone-blocking system McCoy could thrive as he's adept at the three key principles for that style: Bend, Bang, and Bounce. McCoy will also benefit from a rushing threat like Tyrod Taylor handing him the ball and drawing away back-side defenders on the fake.

    Source: ESPN.com - Alden Gonzalez

Los Angeles Rams RB Lance Dunbar (knee) will be out indefinitely because of a knee injury.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bad news for the would-be change-of-pace back for the Rams. His injury could lead to a larger role for Todd Gurley in the passing game in 2017.

DET - TE Eric Ebron sits again

Source: The Detroit News - Justin Rogers

Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron (hamstring) did not participate in practice Monday, July 31.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Ebron is going to get the rest he needs. His numbers have increased each year he's been in the league, and he should be able to continue that trend in 2017. Scoring more than one touchdown would be nice, but don't get too crazy projecting TD catches for the young tight end. Even without WR Anquan Boldin, the Lions still have plenty of pass-catching options when they get to the red zone.

    Thursday Update

HOU - WR Will Fuller injury update

Source: Houston Chronicle - John McClain

Updating a previous report, Houston Texans WR Will Fuller (shoulder) is expected to be sidelined two to three months with a broken collarbone he suffered in practice Wednesday, Aug. 2.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's going to end his value pretty thoroughly for the foreseeable future. While DeAndre Hopkins was always going to be DeShaun Watson's number one weapon, having Fuller across from him helped draw coverage away. Now it's up to Braxton Miller or Jaelen Strong will try to do that, and we're not fully on board with that. Hopkins remains as a very solid WR2 with WR1 upside, but without Fuller and with a rookie quarterback, we think it could be harder to reach that upside.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed's injury not serious

Source: The Washington Times - Nora Princiotti

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (toe) does not have a serious toe injury, according to head coach Jay Gruden. Reed recently visited a toe specialist.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He is, however, on the PUP list so everyone's concern is understandable. Also, keep in mind that right now teams don't have to be entirely truthful with injuries, so he could still be in trouble. We're keeping an eye on this as we think he could have a spectacular season, and is usually the third tight end coming off the board in current drafts.

NYG - More on WR Sterling Shepard

    Source: NFL.com - Mike Garafolo

Updating previous reports, New York Giants WR Sterling Shepard (ankle) has been diagnosed with a low ankle sprain, according to a source. However, the team will wait for the swelling to subside before making a final diagnosis.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Giants are very cautious about injuries, especially leg injuries, and will roll the cart out for almost anything. Still, we'll be watching this and seeing how soon Shepard gets back into practice. He's been trending at an ADP of 149 overall and the 53 wide receiver coming off the boards in drafts. We know Odell Beckham Jr will get plenty of targets and the bigger question mark is how the acquisition of Brandon Marshall and the drafting of Evan Engram could impact Shepard's totals. We need everyone in pads to know the answer to that question.

SF - RB Carlos Hyde in 'good position' to start

    Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde had a good first week of practices and looks to be adapting better and better to new head coach Kyle Shanahan's running scheme, putting him in a good position to begin the season as the team's starting running back.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Hyde might return profit on his falling ADP, although this news should stop if not slightly reverse this fall. Tim Hightower appears to be the backup, with Shanahan favorite fourth-round pick Joe Williams still looking up at the veterans at this point.

GB - RB Jamaal Williams could push RB Ty Montgomery

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers rookie RB Jamaal Williams is the most likely of the rookie running backs on the team to push Ty Montgomery for the starting job, according to offensive coordinator Edgar Bennett, who added Williams has earned work with the first team due to his ability to pass protect.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We expect Montgomery to get the starting job for Week 1, but would not be surprised at all if Williams stole the job later in the season. A solid North-South runner who runs big, he can carry the load. He's got plenty of work to do if he's going to steal Montgomery's job. He is, however, a smart handcuff. Montgomery is tracking as the No. 18 runner off the board (an ADP of 45 overall), while Williams is a distant 51 at the position and 153 overall.

LAR - RB Todd Gurley to see more receiving action

    Source: ESPN.com - Alden Gonzalez

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley is expected to see more action in the passing game after the injury to RB Lance Dunbar (knee). He needs to improve as a pass blocker to be used more often on third downs. 'When you have a special player like Todd, you want to continue to find ways to get him involved but also be mindful of, 'What is that fine balance between him being at his best and not wearing him out?'' head coach Sean McVay said. 'That is something that we're continuing to find out.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Gurley's receiving ability helped salvage some RB2 weeks last year while the running game was stuck in neutral. If Gurley stays heavily involved as a receiver and the offense improves with McVay at the helm and quarterback Jared Goff improving, he could return value on a second-round ADP.

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi (concussion) is out of practice Wednesday, Aug. 2, due to a concussion.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The concussion diagnosis is confirmed for Ajayi, which is worth noting for his 2017 fantasy stock. A second concussion during the season might have a longer recovery time now. Definitely something to watch.

BAL - WR Breshad Perriman sits again

    Source: BaltimoreRavens.com - Garrett Downing

Baltimore Ravens WR Breshad Perriman (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Aug. 2, because of a hamstring injury. The injury is not considered serious, but head coach John Harbaugh does not have a timetable for Perriman's return.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's not serious but can this dude catch a break? He missed his rookie year and then last preseason as well. So this isn't ideal. He hopefully won't have issues with speed because that's his game. His current ADP is 165, and he is the 59th receiver off the board. We don't feel a ton of confidence in him outperforming that ADP either. He should have some nice games, but won't produce consistently.

PIT - RB James Conner has minor injury

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner (shoulder) has been diagnosed with a sprained AC joint and probably will only be sidelined for a few days, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We expect Conner will only see action in relief barring an injury to LeVeon Bell. However, Bell has often been hurt during the season, and if he goes down, Conner is the man. That makes him a decent choice as a handcuff for Bell owners. Conner's ADP is 207 overall and 62 for running backs. While it's not unreasonable, Bell isn't starting the season suspended like last year and had surgery to deal with a core muscle injury so he should be healthy. Conner is a good handcuff but keep in mind you are paying for insurance you might never use.

WAS - WR Jamison Crowder day-to-day

    Source: CSNMidAtlantic.com - Rich Tandler

Washington Redskins WR Jamison Crowder (hamstring) said he is day-to-day as he nurses his hamstring injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Crowder has a lot of upside coming into his third year, and we feel like he could see a ton of targets and catches this year. Aside from this nagging issue, there is also the expected emergence of Josh Doctson and the arrival of Terrelle Pryor. Crowder is tracking as the No. 32 receiver off the board right now, and his overall ADP is 78.

    Source: FirstCoastNews.com - Mike Kaye

Jacksonville Jaguars RB T.J. Yeldon has impressed the team with his work in pass protection during training camp, according to WTLV's Mike Kaye.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pass protection will get him on the field on more obvious passing downs, but rookie Leonard Fournette will carry the load. That said, Yeldon's versatility makes him a good companion piece to Fournette, while Chris Ivory might end up the odd man out.

PIT - Big Ben praises WR Justin Hunter again

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Justin Hunter continues to impress QB Ben Roethlisberger early in training camp, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hunter still has a shot to grab Martavis Bryant's touches, since Bryant is still dealing with reinstatement after last year's suspension. That said, Hunter has always been all hat but no cattle and has only been a fantasy tease despite a lot of talent. The Steelers also have a good prospect in JuJu Smith-Schuster and will always find targets for Antonio Brown, so there may not be a ton for Hunter to do. Bottom line: we're not sold until the pads come on.

PHI - WR Alshon Jeffery out again

Philadelphia Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery (shoulder) is out of practice again Wednesday, Aug. 2.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jeffery said he wasn't concerned about the injury when he originally left practice. There's no reason to change his position on boards yet, but we will need to watch this closely because of Jeffery's history with nagging injuries.

SEA - WR Paul Richardson making a move

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks WR Paul Richardson is running ahead of Jermaine Kearse in two-receiver sets so far at training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Kearse's blocking was one of his main assets over Richardson and Tyler Lockett, but the Seahawks could emphasize speed and playmaking in their wide receiver usage this year. Richardson flashed big talent in the playoffs last year and could be draftable if Tyler Lockett has a setback in his recovery from a broken leg. Either way, we shouldn't be surprised if Richardson's role is bigger this year.

DAL - RB Ezekiel Elliott to see more work as receiver?

    Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott will continue to remain the focus of the offense, but it might come in different ways, according to QB Dak Prescott.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Elliott's receiving stats are responsible for part of the gap between him and LeVeon Bell and David Johnson at the top of drafts. While a possible suspension is making his ADP fall slightly, if Elliott gets more work in the passing game, it can make up for the possible loss of value.

CHI - WR Markus Wheaton will return soon

Source: NFL Network - Stacey Dales
Chicago Bears WR Markus Wheaton (appendix) will return to action in two weeks, according to NFL Network's Stacey Dales. Wheaton underwent an appendectomy Sunday, July 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Forget his appendix for a second, there's little attractive about Wheaton and the Bears. A rookie quarterback (who will replace an unproven Mike Glennon sometime early this season) in a sputtering offense doesn't exactly spell 'production' to us. We've got a ton of bench depth wide receivers and no No. 1. Missing part of camp because of this surgery makes it worse. We're avoiding this mess, and so are GMs in drafts right now.

    Source: Sirius XM NFL Radio

Free-agent RB Rashad Jennings (Giants) told Sirius XM NFL Radio almost two weeks ago he's had 'simple conversations' with the Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Baltimore Ravens, Los Angeles Rams and Miami Dolphins.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jennings is a hard worker but aside from a solid 863 season with the Giants in 2015, has never really taken off the way we'd hoped he would. He's a backup with any of the listed teams and nothing more than that in fantasy if he lands on them.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Treadwell will get every opportunity to capture the #3 job while Michael Floyd is suspended. That's still not a high-value fantasy position because of the Vikings offense, but for dynasty it appears Treadwell is back on track.

BUF - QB Tyrod Taylor struggling early in camp

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Rodak
Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor has not been sharp in the early stages of camp, particularly during 11-on-11 drills, according to ESPN's Mike Rodak, who writes that Taylor has been holding the ball too long and missing open receivers.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Taylor has never been a highly effective pocket passer. His main assets are his ability to throw on the move, elude pressure, and gain yards as a runner. That is a good recipe for fantasy, but if the Bills aren't sold on him as a quarterback of the future, they could make a move at the position if they fall out of playoff contention. He's worth a QBBC pick in fantasy drafts, but it doesn't sound like he is endearing himself to the new regime yet.

    Friday Update

MIA - Team "Fears" QB Ryan Tannehill Will Need Season-Ending Knee Surgery Per Source

Source: Adam Schefter and Jeff Darlington, ESPN

The Miami Dolphins now fear quarterback Ryan Tannehill will need season-ending knee surgery, however no decision to have it has been made at this time, according to sources close to the situation.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Something about this situation doesn't feel right. The Dolphins were trying to get Tannehill healthy for this year without surgery, perhaps because they were worried about his return to play timeline, and this is where they ended up. Clearly, the knee is not 100%, and it's possible Tannehill doesn't trust the knee. The good news here is that the dropoff to Matt Moore is one of the smallest between a starter and a backup in the league, and the passing game shouldn't be affected as greatly as it might be for any other team. The team could also sign Jay Cutler, who played very well with head coach Adam Gase when they were together in Chicago. It feels like this is building to bad news for Tannehill, but it might not be as bad for the Dolphins offense as a whole.

WAS - RB Rob Kelley the clear starter Source: The Washington Post - Master Tesfatsion

Washington Redskins RB Rob Kelley appears to be the clear starter in the Redskins' backfield as of now, according to The Washington Post's Master Tesfatsion. However, Tesfatsion posits that head coach Jay Gruden could go with the hot hand between Kelley and RB Samaje Perine. RB Chris Thompson will maintain his duties on third downs and in passing situations.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kelley has gotten in better shape and appears to have risen to the challenge of having rookie competition. He could lose the job to Perine, who is the superior talent, but Kelley will open the season as the season, and he is significantly cheaper than Perine in drafts (for now).

TEN - WR Corey Davis having MRI

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans WR Corey Davis (hamstring) is undergoing an MRI on his hamstring Thursday, Aug. 3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is more serious than the tweaked hamstring that is keeping Demarco Murray out of practice according to the team. Hamstrings aren't going to be season-enders, but it could keep Davis out for the rest of camp if not the preseason, and slow his integration into the offense. He was dominating practices so we have to remember Odell Beckham's revelation after missing months with hamstring issues, but for now we should be moving Davis down and Decker/Matthews/Walker up. It also takes some of the shine off of Marcus Mariota, but he was extremely undervalued to begin with.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If Shepard suffered further damage, he might be put on injured reserve and the team will wait and see if he can return. For now, assume that he could get off to a slow start, but Shepard will still be the team's slot receiver in Week 1, more than a month away.

Source: 104.5 The Zone - Paul Kuharsky

Updating a previous report, Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (hamstring) is considered day-to-day after injuring his hamstring at training camp, according to head coach Mike Mularkey.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This doesn't appear to be serious, but certainly not what you want to see from a back who has had a heavy workload in the last three years and one that wore down a bit at the end of the year last year. Derrick Henry has a high ceiling if Murray misses time this year, and if this injury recurs before the end of the preseason, it will be a good sign to target Henry.

DET - RB Ameer Abdullah to be Lions' featured back

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah will be the club's main featured back this season, according to running backs coach David Walker, who said, 'Ameer's our guy.' Walker added: 'Theo has his role, and then the other guys, they got to kind of fit where they fit and that's how we'll go.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Abdullah probably won't get enough touches to be a consistent RB1, but he will likely have RB1 level games as he did in Week 1 last year, and he'll provide some PPR punch. The value of Theo Riddick might not be as close to Abdullah as the somewhat small gap in ADP indicates. Abdullah has enough upside in PPR leagues to justify a 5th/6th round price tag.

MIN - RB Latavius Murray hopes to practice soon

Source: St. Paul Pioneer Press - Chris Tomasson

Minnesota Vikings RB Latavius Murray (ankle) said he has two encouraging individual workouts this week and believes he is close to taking part in practice. Murray has been on the Physically Unable to Perform list since the start of training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Meanwhile, Dalvin Cook is winning over the team and coaches. Murray may still have a short yardage role and limit Cook's weekly ceiling, but it appears that he is clearly not going to be the most valuable back on the Vikings roster, and his fantasy value right now appears to be negligible.

BAL - WR Breshad Perriman unlikely back soon

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

Baltimore Ravens WR Breshad Perriman (hamstring) is out of practice Thursday, Aug. 3, and he's unlikely to return soon as the team uses caution early in camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Perriman is going to be a bigger part of the offense this year, but this injury reminds us why the 2015 first-round pick is yet to make an impact in fantasy leagues two years into his career. He's just a back half of the draft bench flier for now.

NE - TE Rob Gronkowski using Tom Brady's trainer

    Source: WEEI.com - Ryan Hannable

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski has hired QB Tom Brady's personal trainer, Alex Guerrero, and has adopted Brady's workout and diet plan. 'I look at (Brady) and he turns 40 tomorrow and he runs around like he's younger than me. So it's pretty obvious right there," Gronkowski said after practice Wednesday, Aug. 2, while acknowledging his body already feels different.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There has been some word that Gronkowski is "new and improved" this year. If that's the case and it results in better health, he'll be a value in the second round this year.

ATL - WR Julio Jones takes part in team drills

    Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (foot) received some snaps during team drills Wednesday, Aug. 2, for the first time since training camp started. He was limited during the first four days because he is coming back from a foot injury. Head coach Dan Quinn said the team has not decided how much playing time Jones will receive during the preseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones foot surgery this offseason was to treat a bunion, which is not as serious as his previous foot surgery. He's a safe first-round pick.

WAS - WR Jamison Crowder still sidelined

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins WR Jamison Crowder (hamstring) did not participate in practice Thursday, Aug. 3, but did run routes on the sidelines.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Crowder's hamstring injury doesn't appear to be serious, but we want to see him get full healthy without any setbacks. Washington is doing the right thing by being cautious with the minor injury, but it still something to monitor until Crowder is all the way back.

BUF - TE Charles Clay receives day off

    Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay did not participate in practice Thursday, Aug. 3, because he received the day off, according to head coach Sean McDermott.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team will have to manage Clay's reps to keep his knee issues from flaring up. This will likely limit his upside in fantasy and limit him to a bye/injury/emergency option.

PHI - WR Alshon Jeffery still sidelined

Source: The Philadelphia Inquirer - Jeff McLane

Philadelphia Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery (shoulder) did not participate in practice Thursday, Aug. 3. Jeffery's injury does not appear to be serious, and offensive coordinator Frank Reich said he believes Jeffery is being held out as a precaution.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jeffery didn't seem concerned by the injury. He does need as much as time as possible to get on the same page as Carson Wentz, but Jeffery is going at a two-round discount from his previous ADP while with the Bears, so some bumps in the transition are baked into his price.

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Osweiler could also end up not on the Week 1 roster. He isn't generating any buzz in Cleveland's camp and there doesn't appear to be a trade market for him.

SEA - TE Jimmy Graham wasn't all the way back

    Source: ESPN.com - Sheil Kapadia

Seattle Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham (knee) had his knee managed by the team last season, according to head coach Pete Carroll, who thinks Graham could have a big year in 2017. 'We had to manage him the whole year,' Carroll said. 'He just kept hanging in there. He played in every game and didn't miss any time, but he wasn't at his best.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Graham still had stretches where he looked like the player of old when he was a stud elite TE1 with the Saints. If he really is improved this year, it's great news for Russell WIlson, although this is a low volume pass offense and it could hurt the ceiling of Doug Baldwin and Tyler Lockett.

CHI - WR Cameron Meredith building chemistry with QB

    Source: ESPNChicago.com - Jeff Dickerson
Chicago Bears WR Cameron Meredith is building chemistry with QB Mike Glennon and appears to be Glennon's favorite targets during the early part of training camp.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Kevin White doesn't seem to be living up to his draft status and Marcus Wheaton is out after an emergency appendectomy, so Meredith is set up to be a target hog again this year. He's an intriguing choice around his ADP as a former quarterback who is still growing as a wide receiver.

MIA - Miami, QB Jay Cutler talk possible deal

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Retired QB Jay Cutler's representatives have talked with the Miami Dolphins about a possible contract but nothing has been agreed to at this point, according to sources. Cutler is considered the team's top quarterback target.

Cutler could be a good fit in Gase's offense and has experience with it. With these weapons Cutler could be very dangerous.

TEN - WR Corey Davis week-to-week

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans WR Corey Davis (hamstring) will miss at least a week because of his hamstring injury, according to head coach Mike Mularkey.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wow a setback like this will hurt his development, we still expect Tennessee to use Davis early and often this year. We'll see how much time he really misses, before we worry. Right now he's tracking as the 42nd wide receiver off the board and we don't see that changing.

NYJ - RB Matt Forte remains sidelined

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) did not participate in practice Friday, Aug. 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

More time for Bilal Powell to get reps (although he did miss a bit of time after having the wind knocked out of him), and we expect him to have a lot of caries this year. Still this offense doesn't look like it's going to be very good, so neither of these backs are worth looking at as anything but occasional plays or bench depth.

NYG - WR Sterling Shepard plans to play Week 1

Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora

New York Giants WR Sterling Shepard (ankle) said he fully expects to be ready to play in Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We have concerns about his fantasy value with Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall there. He should be pretty productive from the slot, but he's still not more than an occasional start in most formats. His ADP is at 149 overall and he is currently the 53rd receiver overall in most drafts.

PIT - WR Martavis Bryant still not practicing

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ray Fittipaldo
Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant has yet to satisfy all of the NFL's requirements for reinstatement after serving his one-year drug suspension and will continue to not be allowed to practice at training camp until that changes.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's hard to feel good when the league discipline office timetables are involved in a player's availability. Bryant could easily provide second or third round value if he's playing, so a fifth-round ADP isn't outrageous, but there is no way to know when the league will address this or what exactly Bryant has to do to get on the field.

IND - WR Donte Moncrief has AC joint sprain

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
Updating an earlier report, Indianapolis Colts WR Donte Moncrief (shoulder) is dealing with a mild AC joint sprain in his shoulder, according to head coach Chuck Pagano.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

While this is reported to a mild sprain, shoulder issues can come up again during the season for wide receivers. It isn't a reason to move Moncrief in your rankings, but maybe enough to break ties if you're close between him and another wideout. Wide receivers will often play through shoulder troubles and be affected but not disclose the degree they are being affected.

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ray Fittipaldo

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (ankle) was unable to finish practice Thursday, Aug. 3, because of a right ankle injury, but head coach Mike Tomlin downplayed the injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Steelers should err on the side of rest instead of pushing Roethlisberger. It won't be a surprise if he doesn't practice for a few days. Rookie Josh Dobbs will get more work for any time that Roethlisberger sits during practice.

NYJ - RB Bilal Powell leaves practice early

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (chest) left practice early Friday, Aug. 4, because he got the wind knocked out of him, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We expect him to be back on the field soon. Powell is looking solid in camp so far, and with Matt Forte sidelined with a hamstring injury, getting a lot of carries. The two should split carries but Powell is a great fit for new offensive coordinator John Morton's offense and is younger and more often healthier than Forte so we think he'll see more snaps. Powell is coming off the board as the 26th back, in large part because this offense looks awful and teams will focus on the run while allowing a bad passing offense to implode on its own. We think Powell will do well, relatively speaking, but the Jets' issues will keep his numbers low.

IND - Chuck Pagano praises RB Marlon Mack

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Wells

Indianapolis Colts fourth-round rookie RB Marlon Mack 'continues to turn heads with his ability to find the holes in the defense,' according to ESPN.com's Mike Wells. Head coach Chuck Pagano has also lauded Mack for 'showing great athleticism, great vision ... and toughness.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
There's still a very good chance Frank Gore begins the season as the starter, but Mack will get plenty of carries throughout the season to keep the veteran fresh. He has struggled in the past with ball security and a tendency to bounce things outside instead of going inside for a short gain. We'll see if he has overcome those things when the pads come on for the first preseason game. He's a decent handcuff to Gore, though, as one dy age will catch up to the veteran back. At an ADP of 175 overall, 55th back off the board, his price isn't unreasonable.

OAK - RB DeAndre Washington ahead of RB Jalen Richard?

Source: San Francisco Chronicle - Vic Tafur

Oakland Raiders RB DeAndre Washington is getting all the second-team snaps at running back in training camp over Jalen Richard, according to the San Francisco Chronicle's Vic Tafur.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We don't really know for sure how well Marshawn Lynch will hold up after a layoff, and the Raiders know he's probably not the long-term answer at the position. Last season saw Washington start out ahead of Richard, only for the latter to steal his position. We suspect more of the same will happen, but make sure you check out our weekly training camp reports and keep on top of this battle. One of these two will be an important handcuff for Lynch. We lean towards Richard, but right now Washington has the edge.

KC - TE Travis Kelce dealing with knee swelling

Source: The Kansas City Star - Terez A. Paylor

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce (knee) has dealt with knee swelling on occasion throughout training camp, although head coach Andy Reid believes he'll be fine because it only flares up 'every once in a while.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

They'll be careful with him, but don't worry much about Kelce. He's still on track to be a huge factor in this offense and a top fantasy tight end in 2017.

CIN - RB Jeremy Hill to be the Week 1 starter?

    Source: ESPN.com - Katherine Terrell

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Make sure to understand, this is Terrell's opinion here. Hill may get ceremonial starter touches, but a healthy Joe Mixon will get more value and have significantly more fantasy value. Hill is still only marginally valuable for fantasy this year until we see otherwise.

TEN - RB Derrick Henry set for big 2017?

    Source: ESPN.com - Cameron Wolfe

Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry had five rushing touchdowns to go along with 490 rushing yards and a 4.5 yards-per-carry average as a rookie, but it is not unrealistic he could come close to doubling his total yards and touchdowns, even as a backup, in 2017, according to ESPN.com's Cameron Wolfe.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Henry is an ascendant talent in a great running game. Demarco Murray will likely keep him at a boom/bust flex play as long as he is healthy, but Henry could play his way into more of a Tevin Coleman role and if Murray goes down, Henry will be a first-round value.

JAX - RB Leonard Fournette listed as co-starter

    Source: Jaguars.com - John Oehser

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette, along with veterans T.J. Yeldon and Chris Ivory, were all listed as starters on the team's first unofficial depth chart Friday, Aug. 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The best part of training camps are the unofficial/official charts to end the first week. Don't read anything into this, save that as expected, Fournette is in the mix for the starting gig. Yeldon and Ivory are fighting for scraps but as we have written before, Yeldon is more of a complimentary back for Fournette than Ivory is. Fournette is tracking as the No. 11 back off the board, with an overall ADP of 23, while Yeldon is tracking an ADP of 213, 65th back off the board. Ivory is going undrafted and there's a strong chance he misses the final roster.

PHI - WR Alshon Jeffery is healed

Philadelphia Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery (shoulder) is over his shoulder injury, but he remains out of practice Friday, Aug. 4, as a precaution. The team hasn't decided if he'll play in the preseason opener.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

As long as Jeffery plays in the third preseason game, there's no reason to think that this will materially affect him, although if we hear a diagnosis of a sprain or injury, we will have to take that into account.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed dealing with side effects

Source: Richmond Times-Dispatch - Michael Phillips

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (toe) said Thursday, Aug. 3, that his current absence is related to a stem-cell treatment used to address a toe injury that has been bothering him since the end of last season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The fact that this has been bothering him since the end of last season is not a good sign for the probability that it will affect him this year. Reed's ADP is dropping and it probably hasn't dropped far enough yet that he is an attractive pick with all of the other compelling options at tight end this year.

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

So far so good for Lacy, who appears to be the favorite to lead the Seahawks backfield in touches. It probably won't be enough to be an RB1 like he was in Green Bay, but Lacy's ADP reflects that.

CLE - TE David Njoku back on the field

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns TE David Njoku (back) is participating in the team's scrimmage Friday, Aug. 4, after missing practice Thursday, Aug. 3, because of a back issue.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Njoku has plenty of time to get healthy. Our bigger concern is who the quarterback is and what the offense looks like. We will have more chance to find out as preseason starts. For his rookie season consider him no more than tight end depth with some upside.

BUF - WR Rod Streater impressing coach

Buffalo Bills WR Rod Streater has been one of the highlights of training camp up to this point, according to head coach Sean McDermott.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
There's a glut of receivers behind Sammy Watkins and it's not a pass-heavy offense, so even the second receiver here doesn't have a ton of value. Streater has never been consistent, though he does have talent, and we aren't expecting things to be different. Good in shorts and shells is a lot different than good - and consistent - in a game. Streater isn't getting drafted right now, and that shouldn't change.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It makes sense, since he's definitely going to be there as long as Ben Roethlisberger is, and the team has been competitive throughout his tenure. Tomlin has a few more years to produce some playoff success and maybe a Super Bowl, and we like his odds.

HOU - QB Tom Savage receives stamp of approval

Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins appears to be in favor of QB Tom Savage opening the season as the quarterback.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not sure what to make of this one. It could just be he's had a few years to get to know Savage. Reports after one week of camp are that Deshaun Watson looks really good and Bill O'Brien called him the 'best rookie quarterback' he's ever worked with. Hopkins is in contract year so he might be worried about how he would look with a rookie quarterback. Personally, this team needs a guy with that big-game 'it' factor and Savage, while a nice quarterback, doesn't have it. Watson does.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Lockett appears to be on track to be healthy for Week 1. He's going in the second half of drafts despite having a lot of buzz at this time last year. He'll be a boom/bust weekly play but, he showed last year that the boom can be big enough to put you over the top as a flex play.

NE - RB Rex Burkhead getting work in short-yardage

    Source: CSNNE.com - Mike Giardi
New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead was reportedly 'chased by head coach Bill Belichick and Bill Belichick alone' and was signed in large part due to his versatility. So far in camp, the team hasn't been shy about trying him in short-yardage situations down at the goal line.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Burkhead is going well behind James White and Mike Gillislee, but it is not hard to imagine him having as much value as either one. He is an excellent late round pick to select and see how the Pats backfield plays out.

MIA - QB Matt Moore expected to start

Source: NFL Network - Tiffany Blackmon

Updating previous reports, Miami Dolphins QB Matt Moore is the team's starting quarterback if QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) is forced to miss time, according to head coach Adam Gase. The Dolphins have been linked to retired QB Jay Cutler.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If Cutler is signed, he'll want a starting job and starter's salary. Considering Moore's inability to gain and hold a starting job throughout his career despite stretches of good play in the regular season and the Dolphins being a playoff team last year, look for at least an attempt to bring Cutler in if Tannehill is shelved.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Taylor is the best deep threat the team has, and he should get worked into the offense in some fashion even if Davis is playing his full complement of snaps. If any of the top three Titans wideouts go down this year, Taylor will be a name to remember.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

IND - WR Phillip Dorsett has work to do?

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Wells
Indianapolis Colts WR Phillip Dorsett is well behind WR Chester Rogers in the competition for the No. 3 receiver job, according to Mike Wells of ESPN.com.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This matches earlier reports. On one hand, it's too bad that the Colts seem to have wasted a first-round pick, but on the other, at least they are admitting their mistakes and willing to give reps to a player that had a much smaller investment but is the better performer. If Andrew Luck is ok and one of the top two wideouts for the Colts miss time, we'll be talking about Rogers in our fantasy leagues this year.

    Sunday Update

DET - RB Ameer Abdullah not getting featured?

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions RB Zach Zenner received the goal-line reps with the first-team offense during a padded practice ahead of Ameer Abdullah on Friday, Aug. 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's worth noting in touchdown heavy leagues more than anything else, though if he can find the end zone regularly, he could be a nice bye week or flex on a more consistent basis. Will Abdullah recover the look he had before being injured last season? Hard to say, and we should also keep in mind that the Lions ranked 30th in the NFL in rushing offense last year. Most of the backfield - even Theo Riddick - would be unreliable as more than an RB3 or so.

It's nothing to sweat, and we still think he's going to do some big things in 2017. He's the 9th back off the board in drafts now, and it's well deserved. He'll get all the carries and the passing offense will keep defenses off his back.

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage is clearly atop the depth chart and has been 'terrific' through the first two weeks of training camp, according to the Houston Chronicle's John McClain.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Early depth charts don't mean a lot, but McClain knows his stuff. With the loss of Will Fuller, a team looking to build on last year's success may go with the slightly more experienced Savage over the rookie Deshaun Watson. Neither one is going to likely be super reliable. But we love Watson's upside - the guy just makes plays under pressure and in big moments - but the Texans wont rush him into action. He's the future, Savage is a placeholder.

ATL - WR Julio Jones easing back into practice

    Source: AtlantaFalcons.com

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones was on the sidelines for most of full-team practice Friday, Aug. 4, although he has been slowly getting more reps in practice after having offseason foot surgery.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No reason to worry here. He'll be ready for the season and will be worth whatever pick you spend on him. If you draft this weekend, though, make sure you play up the injury and see if you can sucker someone into passing on him.

PHI - WR Nelson Agholor generating more buzz

    Source: PhillyVoice.com - Jimmy Kempski

Philadelphia Eagles WR Nelson Agholor has had 'a total rebirth', will 'live in the slot' and be the Eagles' slot receiver in 2017, according to NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah - a former scout for the team who visited training camp earlier in the week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll believe it when we see it, and it's hard to imagine first that his hands have improved that much or two, he will find targets behind Alshon Jeffery, Torrey Smith and Jordan Matthews. As that is his situation, he's rightfully going undrafted in drafts right now.

MIN - WR Michael Floyd standing out

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Ben Goessling

Minnesota Vikings WR Michael Floyd has reportedly received 'plenty of work' in the team's top three-receiver package with Laquon Treadwell missing time this week and taken advantage, making several impressive sideline catches after separating from defensive backs in 1-on-1 drills on Friday, Aug. 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It seems like rookie and second year receivers are always on the outside looking in over in Minnesota. Laquon Treadwell had very little production last year, while Floyd had some nice moments. There has been plenty of back and forth this offseason about which receiver will get the nod, and this is a camp battle to watch. Keep in mind Floyd is suspended for the first four games of the season, so Treadwell will get his inseason chance to shine regardless of preseason.

HOU - WR DeAndre Hopkins endorses QB Tom Savage

    Source: ESPN.com - Dan Graziano

Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins believes QB Tom Savage should open the year as the starter. 'If anybody should be a judge of quarterbacks, I've played with the most quarterbacks in NFL history throughout my first four years,' Hopkins said. 'So I put the stamp on Savage, and I think that's all that needs to be said about that.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It makes sense, as he has had a couple of years to work with Savage and is getting ready for a contract year. He is likely to feel more confident with the QB he knows that the one he doesn't, especially with an unsure option as the No. 2 since Will Fuller is hurt. We think Watson has the higher upside, but Savage may start the season under center as Watson gets his feet under him.

CIN - RB Joe Mixon returns to practice

    Source: ESPN.com - Katherine Terrell

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon (heel) was able to participate in practice Friday, Aug. 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We know there have been some reports that have Jeremy Hill as the starter, but we're not buying it. Mixon is the more dynamic back, and he will overtake the veteran. Really, as long as he stays out of trouble off the field, on the field he will be a monster. Right now his ADP is 42 overall and he is coming off the board as the No. 17 back.

SF - RB Joe Williams picking up the pace

    Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco

San Francisco 49ers RB Joe Williams has been playing better of late, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. 'So I thought he's put two good practices in a row,' Shanahan said Friday. Aug. 4. 'It takes time with some of these guys.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This happens with rookie at skill positions, though running back is one of the 'easier' positions to enter the league as. Carlos Hyde remains the starter for now, but was lackluster last season, so if Williams can show a little more as we hit the season, he can steal that job. We're not expecting a ton from this offense but Williams is a guy we're watching.

HOU - WR Jaelen Strong ready to produce?

Source: Houston Chronicle - John McClain

Houston Texans WR Jaelen Strong said he is ready to take advantage of the opportunity created by the injury to WR Will Fuller (shoulder).

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Strong hasn't been consistent in his first two years, and was surpassed by Fuller. Will he perform? He will have an inexperienced quarterback either way, which isn't going to make his struggles easier to overcome. As of now, his ADP hasn't increased at all, which means he hasn't been drafted enough to track. He's going to start trending higher but still end up in the latter half of drafts.

BUF - TE Logan Thomas learning new position

Source: The Buffalo News - Vic Carucci

Buffalo Bills TE Logan Thomas said he understands the tight end position much better this season. 'I've learned exponentially more in this offseason going into (training camp),' Thomas said. 'Understanding blocking schemes, understanding the little fundamentals, the little concepts, what it takes in the route-running, just growing.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Given how little Buffalo throws and the fact that Thomas is the No. 3 tight end on the depth chart, we're not exactly bouncing off the walls to grab him or anyone here at tight end.

TEN - Leg stiffness for QB Marcus Mariota

Source: USA TODAY - Mike Loyko

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (leg) said he needs longer to warm up because he still feels stiffness in his surgically-repaired leg. 'It's feeling better with every day,' Mariota said. 'We haven't had a setback or anything like that.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Well, this is what happens with serious injuries, like Mariota's. It's going to take time, but we still expect him to be a very good start more often than not this year. He's got an ADP of 88, and has been the 11th quarterback off the board in drafts. His upside is more and if the offense comes together, he could exceed that ADP.

TB - TE O.J. Howard playing well

    Source: Buccaneers.com - Joe Kania

Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE O.J. Howard saw time with the first-team offense and the second unit during practice Friday, Aug. 4, and he caught most of the passes thrown his way and blocked well in the run game, according Joe Kania to of Buccaneers.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Howard is a monster, even as a rookie. His speed, athleticism and acceleration are ridiculous, he can block and his overall physical upside is excellent. We don't expect elite numbers during Howard's rookie campaign, but he is tracking as a solid TE2, and that's where we like him.

TB - Ryan Griffin could be backup QB

    Source: Buccaneers.com - Joe Kania

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Ryan W. Griffin worked mostly with the second-team offense Friday, Aug. 4, and Joe Kania of Buccaneers.com believes Griffin has a chance to beat out QB Ryan Fitzpatrick for the backup quarterback spot.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fitzpatrick, as Seattle corner Richard Sherman said the other day, is terrible. While backup to Winston isn't all that fantasy relevant, we figure Fitzpatrick is going to be long gone by Week 1 if he plays at all like he did in 2016.

LAC - WR Keenan Allen sits out practice

    Source: NFL.com - Jeremy Bergman

Los Angeles Chargers WR Keenan Allen (calf) did not participate in practice Friday, Aug. 4, because of a sore calf.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Well we certainly don't want to hear this news. Hopefully it's nothing, but given the run of bad luck for the Chargers, can we trust that? Allen has played 12 games in two years and you have to wonder if he will remain healthy in 2017. That, as much as anything, is why his ADP is at 38 overall and 18th receiver off the board. Does he have the talent to be more? Absolutely. Can he stay on the field to show it? That hasn't been the case in the last two years.

BAL - WR Breshad Perriman continues to sit out

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley
Baltimore Ravens WR Breshad Perriman (hamstring) did not participate in practice Friday, Aug. 4.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Early reports was that this wasn't a big deal, but that was August 1. Here we are on the 4th and he's still sidelined. Again, this is why Perriman has never had a fantasy impact. He's too inconsistent and too often banged up. He remains a bench player for most leagues.
