HOU - Ryan Mallet works with first-team
Source: NFL Network - Omar Ruiz
Houston Texans QB Ryan Mallet worked with the first-team offense Sunday, Aug. 2, after QB Brian Hoyer worked with the first-team Saturday, Aug. 1. 'Whenever he (Bill O'Brien) feels like someone is ready to be named the starter that's what he'll do, and whatever way it goes, I have really a lot of trust and faith in him,' Hoyer said. 'Whatever he decides will be best for the team.'
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Texans have one of the worst quarterback situations in the league. Mallet is competing with veteran journeyman Brian Hoyer for the starting job. No matter who wins, the Texans aren't going to have a high-powered passing game in 2015.

NYJ - QB Geno Smith leading QB battle
Source: NFL Network - Kimberly Jones
New York Jets QB Geno Smith and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick have not thrown interceptions thus far in training camp, but Smith is still the leading candidate to open the year as the starter.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Smith finished last year with a 358, three-touchdown performance against the Dolphins. This year, Smith will be working under new OC Chan Gailey and could work well in the spread system. Fitzpatrick had his best years under Gailey during their time together in Buffalo, and he's going to push Smith throughout training camp.

PIT - WR Martavis Bryant has elbow infection
Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Gerry Dulac
Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant (elbow) will undergo a procedure for an elbow infection that will cause him to miss the Hall of Fame Game Sunday, Aug. 9, against the Minnesota Vikings. He is expected to be sidelined for seven to 10 days because of an infection caused by an ingrown hair.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This just sounds painful. Bryant will be shut down for a week or so, but he's set to be ready for Week 3 of the preseason at the latest. The second-year pro makes for a nice WR3 with upside for fantasy owners.

PHI - QB Sam Bradford has no restrictions
Source: NFL.com - Conor Orr
Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford (knee) has been cleared for 11-on-11 drills Sunday, Aug. 2, and head coach Chip Kelly told reporters the quarterback doesn't have any restrictions.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
That's got to be considered a win after Bradford's offseason items were generally negative. He still has to beat Mark Sanchez in a QB competition that has gone under the radar so far in the NFL news churn. Bradford being fully cleared does give him no excuse to not clearly outplay Sanchez.

KC - RB Jamaal Charles used in passing game
Source: ESPN.com - Adam Teicher
Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles was emphasized in the screen game during practice Saturday, Aug. 1, and in one drill, nine straight passes were thrown to running backs.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Chiefs didn't throw a touchdown to a wide receiver at all last year. The arrival of Jeremy Maclin should change that, but this team is still going to target Charles plenty as a receiver out of the backfield.

KC - S Eric Berry working with second-team

Kansas City Chiefs SS Eric Berry (illness) worked with the second-team defense during practice Saturday, Aug. 1.

We're so happy to see Berry back on the field after beating cancer. We are part of #TeamBerry for sure. We'll see if he can work his way up the depth chart during camp.

OAK - RB Trent Richardson's spot in jeopardy?
Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport
Oakland Raiders RB Trent Richardson is likely competing with RB Michael Dyer for a spot on the 53-man roster, and NFL.com's Ian Rapoport puts Richardson's chances of making the final roster at 50-50.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Dyer was once at the top of FBS football when he helped Cam Newton lead Auburn to a national title in 2010. After a 1,200-yard season for Auburn in 2011, off-field issues then caused him to transfer three times. He didn't play at either Arkansas State or Arkansas Baptist, but he finally got on the field for Louisville last year and rushed for 481 yards and five touchdowns last year. He's not explosive and not proven as a receiver out of the backfield. This is the guy that could push a former top-5 pick (2012) off the Raiders roster. That speaks volumes for where Richardson is at.

CIN - DE Michael Johnson injures knee
Source: NFL Network - Albert Breer
Cincinnati Bengals DE Michael Johnson (knee) suffered an apparent medial collateral ligament sprain Sunday, Aug. 2.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Bad news for the Bengals here. We'll know more about the severity of this injury when MRI results are released. Early reports indicate that Johnson did not fully tear the MCL, and he may only miss about six weeks.

BUF - Richie Incognito to start at left guard
Source: WKBW.com - Joe Buscaglia
Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan confirmed that OG Richie Incognito will be the team's starting left guard Sunday, Aug. 2.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Out of football for the 2014 season, teams stayed away from Incognito after he was in the middle of the Dolphins bullying scandal the previous year. The Bills needed help up front, so they signed Incognito to a one-year contract. Now, he's the starter and should be able to help blast open holes for LeSean McCoy.

BAL - WR Breshad Perriman will need more time
Source: The Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson
Baltimore Ravens WR Breshad Perriman (knee) may take more time than the team initially hoped he'd need to recover from a bruised knee. The injury is still not regarded as long-term at this point.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
These practices and reps could be the difference between a hot and slow start for a raw rookie like Perriman. There's no reason to move him down your board yet, but if this lingers and costs him preseason games, it can't be seen as a positive.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed trying to shed label
Source: Redskins.com - Stephen Czarda
Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed is ready to shed the narrative that he is injury prone. Reed has missed a total of 12 games over his first two seasons in the NFL. 'Right now I'm staying positive and I feel like the injuries are in my past and I'm moving on,' Reed said. 'I just need to focus on maintenance of my body. I won't let nagging injuries catch up to me. I've made some changes, and I'll be ready,' said Reed.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Reed got a stem cell injection this offseason for his hamstring and knee issues. While it could help, it is not a good sign about Reed's injury outlook. Niles Paul was re-signed by Washington this offseason and could easily end up being the more valuable tight end for fantasy leagues.

KC - WR Jeremy Maclin stretching the field
Source: ESPN.com - Adam Teicher
Kansas City Chiefs WR Jeremy Maclin caught a long pass from QB Alex Smith on the second play of training camp Saturday, Aug. 1, and he caught a few more deep balls during the day. 'We've got a new weapon,' Smith said. 'We've got to test it out a little bit. We've known for a while what we've got with him.'
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
That's what Maclin does. He's a vertical threat with the ability to make defenders miss after the catch. We like him as a WR3 with upside for fantasy owners this year.

PIT - Pittsburgh acquires CB Brandon Boykin
Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora
The Pittsburgh Steelers acquired CB Brandon Boykin from the Philadelphia Eagles Saturday, Aug. 1, in exchange for a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. The Eagles could receive a fourth-round pick depending on Boykin's playing time, according to a source.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Pro Football Focus rated Boykin as the Eagles' best cornerback in 2014, and he finished at no. 21 overall. He's one of the best young slot corners in the league, and he should immediately boost a poor Steelers secondary that ranked 27th against the pass in 2014.
