Jay Bruce Knee Surgery: Out 3-4 Weeks

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN reports that Jay Bruce will undergo surgery to repair a partially torn meniscus in his left knee.

He will have the surgery this week and then be sidelined at least 3-4 weeks for recovery. Chris Heisey is expected to see the bulk of the playing time in his absence and immediately becomes a strong option in mixed leagues.

What a terrible season for Cincinnati. They barely get a guy healthy and then lose one to two more constantly.

He is such an unreliable player, he misses time and goes into big slumps but then he will get hot but he is just too much of a headache for me to have on my teams.

I would have to argue missing time. He has played 155 Games + the last 3 seasons and 148 games in 2010. That seems like an everyday player to me.

He can have some slumps and hot streaks, but last year he was pretty consistent for his pace. He ends up with similar numbers for the past few years. I like to know what I"m possibly getting in my players.

3-4 weeks seems like a short time for an injury like this.

Here's to Schumaker, Heisey, or Ludwick stepping up and getting this Reds offense going.

So far nothing special yet. It's been about routine from the gang. Roger Bernadina returned as well.

I just don't understand them. Pitching is outstanding, but no run support at all...

It was nice to see Joey come through in the clutch for a walk off Win.

Only 2 guys batting over .300. The 2 catchers!!??? Pena & Mesoraco.

Where-as half the starting lineup for the Rocks are above the .300 mark.

    Look at Johnny Cueto numbers.

Eight starts. All listed as quality starts. ERA is 1.43 with a 0.73 Whip and his record is 3-2.

Has not given up more than 2 runs in any start. Pitched 7 or more innings in all starts & Ko'ed 68.

He could be 8-0 if he had any help.

    OK I'm done venting.

When he is right he is an ace #1 starter, it would be helpful if the team would score some runs for him. I stick with him until he starts going bad, it is a pretty dramatic difference.

First post explains the source. It was a copy and paste.

I'm curious how Bruce will respond when he is back. Votto had a setback in his recovery and needed another surgery and his power hasn't quite been the same. He looks a little bit better these days, but it has been some time.

I'm still not sold on him in clutch situations. Like the playoffs.

Folded last year against the Pirates and left with back spasms against the Giants in 2012.

And in 2010 could not stop the sweep by the Phils in game 3.

There were more factors into those losses. Counting on Volquez to be the ace after a few starts from Tommy John. Cueto getting injured right before Game 1. Dusty Baker

Just kidding. Back after just barely two weeks. That was a fast recovery. Now let's see what happens with him playing full time.
