I too, Much more prefer Latos than Jimenez.

    Reds rotation is
    1. J. Cueto
    2. M. Latos
    3. H. Bailey
    4. M. Leake
    5. T. Cingrani

My concern is what if one goes down or Tony Cingrani can't handle the increase number of innings.

What will the back up plan be?

Not sure about the farm system, but will be researching that soon.

Ubaldo Jimenez signed a 4 year deal, 50 million with the Baltinore Orioles.

The Free Agent list is drying up quick.

I don't think there should be any issue with Cingrani. He pitched 146 innings in 2012 and almost 140 innings in 2013.

They picked up Holmberg from Tampa Bay for Hanigan and he appears to be on the cusp of the majors. Corcino needs to rebound from his 2013 season, but he has been in AAA. The farm system has a bright future of pitching in the next 2-3 years. Stephenson is probably a year to a year and a half away.

Chien Ming-Wang and Jeff Francis are around for depth or emergency early in the season.

Nice looking starting 5 right here.

Homer broke the bank today. I just love the fact that a pitcher's first name is "Homer"

Cincinnati should be happy about keeping one of their own guys yet seems like a lot are disappointed. It's funny for a city who is always upset about not spending money, does and still unhappy.

I don't understand it either Mex, there is no making them happy. For years they have complained about not giving out the contracts to keep people they do and now people think it was to big of a contract

You mean Reds fans are disappointed about keeping Bailey, the amount of his contract, or both?

I agree that seems like entirely too much money to be paying a #3 starter.

Apparently, tossing no-hitters in back-to-back years carries a lot of weight at the negotiation table!

However, we're in a players market these days. Guys are receiving crazy amounts of money...

The more I think about it. The more I believe he deserves the money.

I know his record isn't anything to brag about, But I believe he is going to get better as hes moves on.

A lot of his loses were close games. When he takes the mound he (more than less) keeps the Reds in the game.

Nothing he can do if the Reds don't score runs. Except throw a No-Hitter!!!

That's a ton of money for a guy you hope gets better. So far he's been a #3.

I think it has more to do with the money. I think baseball money is insane too, but it's the going rate for these kind of baseball players. I think the deal is fair compared to what other players of his status would receive.

It depends how you view him. I don't expect Cueto here once his deal is over. I'm hoping they lock Latos up and he would become the ace if he already isn't this season. Homer would be considered a #2 pitcher. Reds have a lot of pitching prospects, so if anybody pans out specifically Stephenson can be your #3 and Cingrani 4th and so on.

maybe they just think that money could be better spent in the coming years on other guys.

as a pirate fan I have some satisfaction in them tying that money up with him

Gotcha. Thanks for the response, Stallion.

As far as I'm concerned, Latos is your Ace. I need to win 1 game, I'm giving the ball to Latos.

2014 is Cueto last year of a four-year, $27 million deal. He does have option for $10 million next year.

Not sure what the Reds plans are for him, But I got a feeling he will be gone.

Would love to get Latos signed and hopefully Stephenson or some other youngster steps up to complete the rotation.

The Orioles now have Nelson Cruz. Quite the offense they're putting together down there!

I also heard they are still in touch with Ervin Santana.

However they'd have to forfeit a 2nd round draft pick if they sign him.

Has Kendrys Morales signed anywhere yet? I know the Pirates had some interest...

Now the Texas Rangers are showing strong interest in Ervin Santana.

Makes sense considering the freak injury to Derek Holland and now Matt Harrison is having lower back problems.

The Rangers starting staff could really use a lift...

Anybody have the scoop on some Prospects who could get called up late this year? I'm in a Dynasty League and could use some names outside of the big ones. Not top 20 prospects.

My team didn't have much. It came with Oscar Taveras and Danny Hultzen. I picked up Kyle Zimmer from KC as my not obvious prospect for pitching if it helps any.

    Not that I've heard.

Stephen Drew is still on the market as well.

Kind of surprised that these 2 are not signed yet, But then again I think Scott Boras is their agent.

The last thing I heard about Drew was that he was asking for a multi-year contract with an opt-out after the first year.

I read earlier that Drew rejected a $14.1 M deal with Boston.

As a result, any team which signs Drew would have to give the Red Sox a draft pick.

Drew likely won't return to Boston according to their GM.

The teams left that may be interested are the Blue Jays, Athletics, Yankees, Pirates and Mets.

That may be his only option for the kind of money he and Boras are demanding.

I think he was completely crazy to turn down $14.1 M.

Like you said, his agent probably had a lot to do with that.
