I understand taking him at one, but it seems like EVERY rankings list out there has him at number 1.

He had a hamstring injury last year. Bad hammys are like the plague for RBs.
He has a very, very good backup in Ben Tate.

Whereas, Ray Rice and Lesean McCoy's backups are not nearly as capable and they have proven to be more durable. Both are in incredible offenses (from a fantasy RB perspective)

Pretty sure fantasy "experts" aka the nerds who were really into fantasy in 1995 and then got hired by ESPN, Yahoo, SI, etc are a bunch of sheep with their opinions.

If he gets any small injury theyll play it safe and pull him with Tate as his backup. But he is the best Red Zone RB in the League. Not only does he get the touches nobody else gets, but he also has a knack for finding an extra yard or two when any other RB gives up. Still not sure if id take him any earlier than 3 though.

Basically no #1 from the previous year will be #1 the following year so all these rankings are pointless.

If I get #1 pick, I would probably draft Ray Rice. Then in about round 8, pick up Ben Tate. So I could have a chance at having the consensus #1 pick's backup fill up the stat sheet for me.

But who knows, Fantasy football is about a lot of luck, at the right time.

Don't underestimate the importance of the receiving ability out of the backfield for a RB, especially in a PPR league.

McCoy hasn't missed significant time since he has been a starter. Granted this is only his 3rd year as a starter.

You can say the same for RB's in fact look how many top RB's have issues. AP, Lynch, Trent, MJD ect.

WR situation only changing a little bit as hybrid beast TEs have started to be the next big thing and take some numbers from WRs...but in general, RBs who carry the entire load for their team are becoming more rare and rare. Foster will slowly lose carries to Tate a little as well. He'll be the #1 in Houston for many years to come if he's healthy, but he won't be the main man at this great of a % as the years go by as Tate is too good to not work in. I'd take Foster #1 again this year, but who knows how things will be changing soon.

This is exactly true. Not many guys are truly "the guy" anymore. Lot of RBBC, goal line back, etc. Transitioning more to WRs getting more points.

RBs in the NFL in general are becoming less valued. GMs realized they have very short careers and no longer want to dish out the big bucks. I think they realized RB success is largely dictated by the offensive system your back is in and the offensive line's effectiveness. Might as well keep two decent RBs fresh and have a backup plan in place if one goes down versus overpaying an "elite" RB.

Also, all the top tier athletes in HS are going to colleges to play WR now because they know RBs careers are short as fukk and they get hit on every play.

I think for fantasy purposes, #1 importance is an RB that won't split carries at all. Especially goal line touches.

Schaub and Tate will definitely take some of the load off him this year. Not to mention if you pick him up you have to take that handcuff because when they get a lead they should let Tate take more touches. If they perform and get that bye week clinched early like it looks as they should they will give Foster less touches and save him for the playoffs in those last three or so games. So the Colts games late doesnt look as appealing as you may think they are...which all leads me to believe Rice and McCoy are better picks as everyone has stated already.

I actually got to do this in my draft yesterday. I drew #1 pick, took Rice, and got Tate in the 9th round.
