    Colorado to Pac 10?

If the Pac 10 expands, Colorado is just about a lock to jump on board. Colorado is an AAU school, as is USC, UCLA, Cal and Washington. Colorado has more academic projects with Pac 10 schools than they do with Big 12 Schools. Colorado's Administrators speak glowingly about the Pac 10 and basically have told the Pac 10 that they are ready to jump, as soon as requested to.

This makes perfect sense for the Pac 10 also. Denver is the 16th biggest T.V. market in the nation. It also opens the door for a Pac 10 Championship game, if the Pac 10 also adds Utah, as expected. The Divisions in the Pac 10 would be clear cut. The North would consist of the the two Washington and Oregon schools, plus Colorado and Utah. The South would consist of the 2 Arizona schools and the 4 California schools. The Pac 10 would then revert to an 8 game conference schedule, which would include 5 games against their division foes, and 3 games against foe from the other division, ala the SEC, Big 12, and ACC. This alows for one more non-con game to be added to the schedule, and can make life a lot easier for borderline conference teams trying to get into bowl games.

I would really be suprised if this deal is not completed by the end of the year. While the Big 10 is grabbing all the headlines about what they may or may not do, and the SEC is quietly watching and threatening actions on their own, the Pac 10 seems to have their immediate goals set. The Pac 10 even has contingency plans if they want to expand past the 12 school number. Those plans include, Air Force, Colorado State, UNLV, San Diego State, and BYU, in effect, ending the MWC.

What happens to the Big 12 then? Who would they bring in to replace Colorado?

BYU, who was the 12th member until Ann Richards forced the conferences hand.

Although the "public" pick will be TCU.

The Big 12 would take TCU. BYU comes with too much baggage, as far as the University's academic programs (not that they are bad) and the fact that they refuse to play on Sunday's. If the Big 12 loses two teams (Colorado to the Pac 10 and Missouri to the Big 10), then BYU would be considered. The Big 10 and SEC really holds the cards as far as the Big 12 goes. If the Big 10 expands to 14 or 16 teams, then the SEC will do the same, and take Texas and Texas A&M, if the Big 10 goes to 14. If the Big 10 goes to 16 teams, add OU and Oklahoma State. Then the Big 12 basically raids the MWC and WAC to get to 16 teams, as does the Pac 10. The ACC then raids what is left of the Big East, and 5 Super Conferences are born.

While this is a bit of a longshot, it is not nearly as impossible as it may seem. It is the perfect set up for the BCS. With most of the good non-BCS teams swallowed up by BCS Conferences, the Bowl Games would be easy to set up. All 4 curent BCS Bowls keep their automatic bids. The two big losers would be Boise State, who would not be taken by any BCS Conference, and Jerry Jones, who would see his hopes for a BCS Game (Cotton Bowl) go up in smoke.

There seems to be a lot of smoke about realignment right now. It's going to be interesting to see how it all plays out.

They don't have to worry about losing Missouri to the Big Ten.

Information has all been coming one-way ala Pittsburgh.

    There is no mutual interest.

If the Big 12 loses two teams, TCU is just about a lock. If they lose only one, then things become interesting, because if they take TCU, they will have to send one of the Oklahoma teams to the North division, and I believe that Okie State is further North than OU.

The talk now is that the SEC will 1 up any other conference. The rumor is that they may raid the ACC taking away FSU and Miami with GT and Clemson being options too.

I hate to break the bad news to you oldtim, but Colorado is a LOCK to leave the Big 12 if the Pac 10 expands. There is no doubt about this. There is already a mutual agreement. Jlgar, this affects all sports, not just football.

The way things break down is like this. If the Big 10 expands to 12 teams and the Pac 10 does likewise, little else gets changed. The conferences that lose teams (Big 12, and Big East possibly), will have to fill in. The Big East will have a huge problem because they will be the only BCS conference without 12 teams, and a championship game. Woth the non-BCS losing two teams in this scenario (TCU to the Big 12 and Utah to the Pac 10) they drop to 7 teams, and may merge with the WAC to form a 12 team conference. That would force the Big East to raid the CUSA-MAC to expand to a 12 team conference.

Now if the Big 10 decides to exapnd to 14 or 16 teams, everything gets changed. The SEC raids the Big 12, taking Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State. The Big 10 would have grabbed Notre Dame, Pitt, Rutgers, and possibly UConn, so the ACC grabs USF, West Virginia, Syracuse, and UCF from the CUSA. The Pac 10 raids the MWC and WAC, taking Utah, Air Force, BYU, Colorado State, Colorado (from the Big 12), San Diego State, UNLV and Nevada Reno. The Big 12 takes New Mexico, New Mexico State, UTEP, Rice, Houston, Tulsa, Tulane, TCU, and SMU.

That is just one scenario going on. There are others.

I believe all of these dominos are being proposed to show Notre Dame that they need to jump now, or get left behind. Once Notre Dame commits, the Big 10 will stay at 10, and order will be restored.

I think you mean will stay at 12. The Pac 10 will then go to 12 teams, putting the pressure squarely on the Big East to find 4 more teams, something that will not be easy to do, especially with the mess they have in their hoops conference. Assuming that they grab 4 more teams, and Notre Dame goes to the Big 10, that would leave 19 teams in their hoops conference. Three would have to go. The Big East can go for UCF, Buffalo, Temple (again) and maybe Memphis.

You sure do not know much do you. If you think Colorado would not jump to the Pac 10, state your case. If not, stop trying to get points with meaningless posts. I have forgotten more about college football than you know.
