    For What It's Worth

This week is the first week that no AP Top 25 teams play each other since November of 2009. The only game between top 25 teams in the Coaches poll is #13 USC hosting #23 Utah. Major upsets anyone?

    interesting observation,

is that partially due to the fact that a bunch of dominant programs have already lost and that top 25 teams are probably a bit more balanced between conferences this year? of course, it would just be randomness of schedule too.

Some of it cannot be helped. Most thought that both Auburn and LSU would be ranked, including CBS. LSU is not a very good team. Some of it is terrible ranking. One loss Utah not in the top 25, but Texas Tech is. A lot of it is the networks wanting to get as many top games on Week 1 as possible, to peak interest for the coming season. They also want to get as many top games as they can on Thanksgiving weekend. Some is almost sacrificial. Notre Dame always plays their last game of the regular season on the West Coast. Odd years at Stanford, even years at USC. They are 2-7 in the past 9 seasons doing that, and have not defeated Stanford away since 2007.
