Jumping on Texas Longhorns Early +17.5 Playing @ USC This Week!

This is a very large line and a typical reflection of the overreactive nature of college football, especially given such a small sample to analyze.

Texas loses to Maryland, panic city.

USC blows out Stanford, they are invincible.

Seventeen and a half point line to make it bettable.

I don't think they're that far apart. Texas is obviously going to have to make some major adjustments but it's not like they are devoid of talent. They will be up for this game. It gives them an early shot at redemption. If they can topple this giant, it could save their season.

I think Buechele will play and Texas presents more of a threat offensively to the young Trojan defense than do the one dimensional Stanford Cardinal. Defensively UT will have their hands full but if they can possess the ball and put some points on the board, the Trojans aren't going to run away and hide in this game.

I'm taking Herman's Hermits and the bundle o' points in this one.

love the play and write up, but why so early? this line should move up later in the week?

To the contrary... I'm already seeing 16.5

I love making plays early because I usually can spot greater value before the lines move. I mean sometimes it goes against me if I pull the trigger early and the line moves opposite of what I anticipate, but more often than not I have a feel for which way it'll go as is the case with this Longhorns line.

im the same way. i have a knack for finding value in the early lines. i glanced at this line also. but just skimming through the card theres not alot of good action like there was this weekend. kind of a dull card

I'm also feeling BYU getting over two touchdowns at home this week.

    Similar scenario as the aforementioned.

I like them. I still think Louisville is largely a one-man show and I don't think that's gonna cut it against a Clemson squad that is superior top to bottom.

Clemson's lackluster offensive showing against Auburn is forgivable because I think Auburn has a pretty good defense, something I can't say for Louisville.

The Tigers have the kind of athletes in their front seven that can give Lamar fits and he's gonna have to go "Russell Westbrook" to pull off the upset. I'm siding with Dabo and the defending champs in this one, especially with the reasonably small line.

That's exactly what I've been thinking, I'm hesitant because the line is only 3. Kind of expected it to be higher

I think it's a short line because it's a bit of a trap game perhaps with Clemson fresh off a big win at home in prime-time and having to get up a consecutive week but this time on the road in prime-time against a team who's probably had this game circled since the day it was scheduled.

Clemson is still breaking in a new quarterback and even with Watson last year they had a few blips on the radar i.e. the NC State or Pitt games the former of which should have been a loss and the latter of which was.

Furthermore, these teams played each other last year in Death Valley and Clemson won by 6.

The more I think about it this may be a stay away game but if I had to pull the trigger I'm backing Clemson.

i remember this matchup last season like it was yesterday.. lets not forget louisville wouldve won that game outright if marcus quick cuts up field 1 yard vs going out bounds in the red zone on 4th down. you can probably find this specific play im talking about. nearly drove me to break my tv. i think louisville wins this game especially without deshaun at the hub. revenge

I agree with your statements on overreaction however USC has too many athletes. Ive only seen part of the first game with them this year and that was close, but they were smart in areas and that is getting their speed out in open space. Little flares and stuff like that, when those RB's and WR's get in open space they can take it to the house. I dont see Buechele hurting them, he's average at best to me, Texas run game is what they need to be strong in and whatever semblance of a defense they have needs to step up. Still 17.5 pts is healthy, that line will prob get down to 16.

Fair points jtoler. I just think there are still a lot of lingering questions this early in the year. Do we even really know how good Stanford is?

Texas I have to believe will show up to this game and I'm hoping they can put together an inspired performance... maybe it becomes a shootout like last year's Rose Bowl or something. If feels like USC bettors are paying a premium here though while Bevo backers get the value.

I know Buechele isn't anything extraordinary but his backup last week against San Jose State was a true frosh so Buechele's mere presence gives me confidence that Texas has a shot.

FWIW the line is now USC -15

I posted this before I knew Tanner Mangum was out. Obviously that changes things but with BYU currently +17 it's worth a look because this could be one of those rugged, old-fashioned snotbubble games that Wisky ultimately wins 20-9.

No worries... I only wish they'd have won outright. They deserved it. Ehlinger battled and made some great throws in a tough environment, but I think if UT would have had Buechele's experience under center it would have put them over the top.
