    Iowa State Fires Paul Rhoads

Mark Mangino, whom Rhoads fired as OC mid season, mocks him via tweet.

Iowa State's AD Pollard is another idiot who fired a good coach years back (Dan McCarney) in search of a
"big name" coach. All he got was a succession of duds who destroyed the foundation that McCarney had built.

Not great but competitive, He served as head coach at Iowa State University from 1995 to 2006. During that span, McCarney led the Cyclones to five bowl games, more than any other Iowa State coach in history. His 56 wins and 85 losses are both school records. At the time of his resignation in November 2006, he was the longest tenured head football coach in the Big 12 Conference.

The problem is that no "big name' successful Head Coach would even entertain the notion of going to Iowa State. Is is one of the big hick teams in a big hick conference. How exciting is playing your home games in some town named Ames Iowa, and then going to such national hot spots as Manhattan Kansas, Stillwater Oklahoma, Morgantown West Virginia and Lubbock Texas? Iowa State is just another win for teams like Oklahoma, TCU and Baylor.
