    i just can't understand the value of fg with 4 min left down by 7 and u have 2 time outs, did coach get a call and remind him over is 41.5 ? had a good year and lose the rose bowl? i don't think so

    i had the under so the fg really pissed me off, but i mean come on, had to be one of the dumbest decisions ever.

    FG would have made sense if they were down 6. But down 7 it was idiotic. Playing for a win in regulation? Like you wouldn't be happy with OT at that point? Just crazy.

    Are you guys forgetting the fact that Stanford DID go for it? They initially faked the fg, then got flagged for ineligible receiver downfield. At that point it became 4th and 8 so they took a sure 3 points rather than risk an empty drive. With 5 minutes left and a good defense, it seemed rational. If it was 4th and 8 at midfield, you would still punt at that point......so why wouldn't you take points in the same situation?

    I do agree Shaw's a bum. I had Stanford a couple years ago when they lost to Oklahoma St. in whatever bowl game that was. I don't remember the exact details, but Stanford had every opportunity to put the game away but Shaw was too much of a pussy to go in for the kill and let the game slip away with putrid playcalling.

    I remember that game Eddy. They ran 3 times and settled for a fg to force OT and then they missed the fg in ot. Luck was pleading to take a shot but they just ran the ball at the end of regulation.

    Yeah that sounds right. I remember thinking it was a damn shame that Luck had to end his collegiate career with a shot to win the game, but saddled with a coach who would rather crawl into a shell. It's like if you're too scared to go out and seize victory when Andrew freakin Luck is your quarterback, then you just need to find another profession......one where risk-taking isn't requisite.

    I've always had that game in the back of my mind when it comes to Shaw and it influenced my decision to bet on Michigan St. today. I figured Dantonio would coach with nothing to lose, and Shaw would employ his usual gutless, conservative approach.

    They didn't fake the FG. The only reason it wasn't attempted initially is because the snap was fumbled so he improvised. It wasn't called for a fake. And if it was, that woulda been stupid in the first place. On 4th and 3 just go for it, don't screw around.
