New Mexico Bowl: Colorado State (7-6) vs Washington State (6-6) -4. It has been a while since either one of these two teams has gone Bowling. Colorado State has not been to a Bowl in 5 years. They won 3 out of their last 4 games, so they come in here on an upbeat. Wazzu ran hot and cold this season. They defeated USC on the road, and lost to Oregon State at home. Wazzu is probably favored becuse they are the Pac 12 school. Pick. Hard to say. Wazzzu has the better personnel, but who shows up? Wager. CSU was 10-2 OVER against the number. Keep that in mind.
Las Vegas Bowl: USC (9-4) -6 1/2 vs Fresno State (11-1). The big question in this game is whether or not USC shows up. Fresno State has a very good QB, but USC dominates every other position on both sides of the ball. Fresno State blew a shot at a BCS game with a loss to San Jose State. They recovered to defeat Utah State, as USC did earlier in the season. Pick: If USC shows up, they win. Will they show up? New HC Sarkisian will be in attendence so players and assistant chaches alike are playing for positions next season. Wager. Pass. Not at 6 1/2 points.
Idaho Potato Bowl: Buffalo (8-4) vs San Diego state (7-5). Pick. This game has received a lot of attention. It's the MAC vs the MWC. Buffalo's high powered offense was stopped cold by Bowling Green in the CC game in Buffalo. San Diego State was blown out of Las Vegas, after winning 7 out of their previous 8 games to become bowl eligable. 8 out of San Diego State's 12 games were decided by 7 or fewer points. Buffalo had only one game that close, a 3 point win over Stoney Brook. If Buffalo jumps out to a lead, thngs may be difficult for San Diego State. If the game is close, Buffalo may find the going tough. Pick: I liked Buffalo going in and still do. Wager. Pass for now. I want at least 3 1/2 and this game is a pick.
New Orleans Bowl: La. Lafayette ((8-4) vs Tulane (7-5) -2 1/2. This game was a pick until Lafayette QB Broadway was listed as doubtful with a broked right arm. The Ragin Cajuns make their third straigt appearance in this game, but their first as the away team, as Tulane plays their home games in the New Orleans Supedome. This is the first bowl for Tulane in 11 years. Lafayette won 8 games in a row before losing to La. Monroe and being crushed by South Alabama without QB Broadway. Four of Tulane's 5 losses came on the road. The only home loss was to the same South Alabama team by two points. This game should come down to Lafayette's offense against Tulane's defense. Pick: None. A backyard brawl. Wager. None.
12/23: Beef O' Brady Bowl: Ohio (7-5) vs East Carolina (9-3) -13 1/2. Ohio started the season on a promising note, winning 6 out of 7 games after an opening mugging by Louisville. The one loss should have been a warning flag. It was to Central Michigan at home. Ohio limped home, losing three out of their last four games, before winning their season finale against UMass. Ohio fell apart on both offense and defense. East Carolina had no problems scoring at all this season, being held to under 24 points just once (Va. Tech). They won seven out of eight games before losing to Marshall. Oddly enough, Ohio defeated Marshall. Pick. East Carolina has too much fire power. Wager. None. Not at -13 1/2.
12/24: Hawaii Bowl: Oregon State (6-6) -3 vs Boise State (8-4). Oregon State ended the season with 5 straight losses. After scoring 31 or more points in their first 7 games, the offense managed just 43 in their next 3 games, Their defense, never strong, crashed and burned in the last 5 games. Oregon State can score. They have a great passing combo. Boise State was a disappointent this season. They were favored to win the MWC Mountain Division, but losses at Fresno State, BYU, and San Diego State put a halt to that. Boise can score and has a good defense, but loses HC Petersen. Consistancy was not their strong suit going in. Pick. Boise State. We have seen this song and dance by Oregon State for the past 4 yeas now, going 4-16 in their last 5 games of each season. Wager. Boise State +3. Boise State +130 ML.
Like CSU/Wazzu over and CSU TT over, Boise and Oregon/Boise over, and to a lesser extent, Tulane. Think over is the play in USC/Fresno but probably pass. BOL.
