    Shits & Giggles

Just a place to hang one's hat (so to say) and take a shot every now and then.

Everyone is welcome but the thread is a place where there's no arguing, fighting, hassling posters, etc. Post a pick now and then. Keep a record if you're so inclined, if not that's fine as well.

Good luck to all this season.

Boise State is now over 10 and -320 - that's up from -225 a mere seven (7) days ago.

Very, very solid play play with Boise State over 10 wins. They play thirteen regular season games. They will be favored by double digits in most of those game. Boise State will finish 12-1 or 11-2 this season! I think Oregon +3.5 will be their closest spread the whole season.

Thank you but if a key player or two go down, it could spell disaster. As much as I'd like to see them run the table and cause the BCS issues AGAIN , I don't see that happening as they will stub their toe during the course of the season - if they don't all the better. Thank fully they are home following the stay over in HI but have to play SJ State who will be more competitive than many think.

They very well could as the line between 3rd and 5th is not that much.

They have 16 returning starters (8 each side of the ball) and a squad that out gained SEC foes by 80.9 yards per game last season. On the defensive side, they gave up 2.7 yards per rush (none better in the SEC). Tell me who do you think takes the West.

On the offensive side look for Garcia to put up respectable numbers if he can keep the off field problems in check. Defensively, they will give up some points but might be able to shut-down a team or two along the way and surprise folks. If they don't they will be a year away from divisional contention.

I understand why you picked Mississippi #1, all the preseason magazines are putting them in the top 10. On paper they are number one in the west but in my opinion LSU and Alabama will finish ahead of them. Last year Clemson was the hyped up team which looked so good on paper, this year I think it's Mississippi. Don't have anything else to back it up, just a feeling.

Fair enough but, one shouldn't compare teams from previous seasons as things are not the same. Is it safe to presume you have LSU first?

    Good morning SiliconToad,

Here are a couple of the reason's why I have Baylor ahead of A&M. One, look at what Art Briles did with them last season and now they have the most (tied) returning starters back. Two, the 'close loss' factor. Teams that come close but fall short the previous season generally take another step forward the following season. To me a close loss is within seven. Three, A&M's defense has allowed 29.7 points per game since RC Slocum left (and 37.4 points per game last season) and have but a mere five returning starters on that side of the ball, what makes one think their defense will/has improved?

    Good afternoon Cane Dawg,

Not a problem. It's just how I look at it. Some agree. Some don't. The difference between who I listed in the West's top three is extremely little/small/tiny that it could go to any of the three. I happened to take the Rebels for the previously mentioned reasons in this thread. Tell me why you like LSU to win the West.

Mark Ritch is genius far as I'm concerned. What he's build the Bulldogs up to takes skill, motivation, prowess, etc. He will/should have them ready to play every game. Hard to believe he's in his tenth year there as the head coach winning at a 79% clip.

While replacing the cube isn't easy having the entire o-line back will give them a chance early in the season until he gets his feet 'wet'. On the defensive side, you're replacing an end and free safety and I look for great improvements in the secondary. They are a very dangerous team and could find there way in the National Championship game if the ball bounces right for them a couple times during the season.

UGA is 3-0 verses the Cowboys who last played in `07, 14-7 verses the current Big 12 and won 8 straight road openers. These to not happen by chance. It tells me, the players are well prepared.

The Cowboys aren't a slouch by any means and will challenge UGA on both sides of the ball. South Carolina will be better and could benefit from being a sandwich game but should still win. Going to Arkansas and being ready shouldn't be a problem, less injuries, as they have much to prove from that 3 point win in `05. Arizona State comes in and should lose by 21+ this time. Next up is LSU, who will be trying to improve upon last year's loss of 14; they might but I have the Bulldogs getting the win. Then a pair of road games and fortunately they're against the SEC's version of the 'Sister's of the Poor' - chalk of two more wins. Finally a week off and then on Halloween the SEC East, and potential National Title is on the line, they face Florida. This game could go either way and right now way to close to call. November brings three home games, all winnable and then they close at Georgia Tech. Should be a lot of fun watching them this season.

Keep an eye on Tulsa. I've been hearing alot of good out of their practices lately. I look for them to struggle early, but when their freshman QB finally learns the playbook look out.
