    One play for 9/8

    FAU/Middle Tennessee - Under 48

    Here are the facts:

    - This past weekend, FAU posted 7 points in a win against FCS school Wagner, while Middle Tenn posted 21 points in a loss against FCS school McNeese St.
    - FAU had a run-pass ratio of 41:23 ... Middle Tenn had a run-pass ratio of 27:41, however 16 of these pass attempts were in the 4th quarter. They were down 24-6 after 3Q and went on a pass-heavy attack in the 4Q during their attempted comeback.
    - Carl Pelini, FAU's new head coach, held the spot of Nebraska's Defensive Coordinator before moving to FAU. Nebraska's O-U for the past 3 seasons was 15-26.
    - The total (48) for these two teams is the lowest since 2007, and the match-ups of these two schools has produced an O-U record of 1-3-1 in the past 5 seasons with a point differential of -39.5 points (average of -8 points per game).
    - FAU's O-U record for the past 4 seasons is 18-30-1, including 5-10 after a win.
    - Middle Tennessee's O-U record for the past 4 seasons is 26-22-1, including 10-14-1 after a loss.
    - Middle Tennessee returns all 4 Defensive Linemen from last season
    - FAU has 8 returning starters on Defense.
    - Middle Tennesee lost their starting Left Tackle, Left Guard, and Center from last season.
    - Combining these team's top 24 recruits according to Scouts from the past 2 seasons, 18 of them play Defense.

Here are my notes and opinions

    - FAU's offense is extremely poor. The starting QB job has not been established, but either way both QB's are very bad. Weak arms, no pocket presence. The running game is at least mediocre. I expect FAU to ground and pound the ball in this game, just like the last one, and eat clock. They are well aware they will not win this game in a shootout.
    - Middle Tennesee's defense is very poor, however FAU's inability to move the ball will cancel that out. Especially playing on the road. Middle Tennessee did manage to rank 44th in pass defense last season, their one bright spot.
    - Middle Tennessee returns most skill players, but has a very inexperienced Offensive Line which cost them dearly in their season opener. They only managed 6 points in 3 quarters.
    - While it was an FCS school and doesn't seem that impressive to you perhaps, FAU's defense had a huge moral victory by holding Wagner to only 3 points, probably the Defensive unit's best performance in years. Their confidence should be high.
    - I believe the books are trying to coax the average Joe into taking the Over by setting the total one point less than the magic number of 49.
