Eastern Michigan has opened this season at 0-3 while Central Michigan is 1-2. But there is reason for optimism in backing the winless squad here.
First of all, the last two Eagles losses came vs. Big Ten schools, so they did not figure to be competitive anyway. That being said, EMU actually deserves credit for covering the number in a surprisingly close 14-6 loss at Northwestern last week. The Eagles are now back in their element facing another MAC school, and we would not be surprised if the lessons learned the last two games translate into an outright upset win this week.
Central Michigan opened conference play with its initial win of the year, a 24-21 home triumph over Akron. Keep in mind however that the Zips were in a big letdown spot after upsetting North Carolina State of the ACC the prior week and the Chippewas took advantage of that. Remember also that Eastern Michigan has won this matchup straight up each of the last two years.
