MMA and UFC are a total joke, I can't believe people actually watch it.

Watching 2 people try to beat the crap out of each other just sounds savage like and uncivilized to me.

Boxing is far superior.

UFC and MMA is just a battle of who has the most screws loose. No normal person could take that kind of punishment. Only time I ever watched UFC I saw some guy pick up the other guy by his feet and slam his face into the ground as if he were swinging a sledgehammer onto a slab. The guy's face was busted and blood was everywhere. He kept swinging him around until the fight was called. Why would anyone want to watch such a thing?

I watch boxing way more than MMA/UFC, but it's pretty much the same thing right there.
Both sports have fighters who aren't technical and swing for the fences and both have fighters who're smart and actually fight that way.

Have you ever been to a UFC fight? Lot's of celebrities show up. Early in the beginning there wasn't much of a following but today it's a great show. I've been going for almost 2 decades now and the sport is probably more popular than boxing today. I love boxing and it's still my favorite but it's getting watered down with a bunch of little guys fighting as the heavyweight division has been trash for 2 decades as well, which has vaulted UFC. Also, all these bullshit decisions has hurt the sport as well. Too much corruption that leaves the fans dissatisfied.

BTW - a lot of the dream team basketball players are there tonight along with plenty of celebrities. It's just harder to see them behind a fence.

This thread would have been real 15 years ago, but nowdays millions and millions of people watch it, 1 million PPV, most people invite over friends and families, that could count for 5 millions people watching, then the sportsbars get crowded, maybe another million, then people who doenst have the money and see it later for free, millions of people again. This has become the fastest growing sports. I work in the healthcare industry and every one, doctors, practitioners, nurse, lab tech, phy. therapist, watch this fights, frequently or occasionally. I have notice that girls and guy with strong female tendencies are against it. Boxing will die, with the fix fights, head butting and KO to deffenseless fighters it just sucks. MMA is barbarian, but we live in harsh times and people look for a escape. dana is doing a great job with the advertisement too.

A great boxer might beat a decent MMA striker with good takedown defense, but they would get raped by a wrestler or submitted by BJJ guy. You have to account for so much. Completely untrue. While I love MMA and I'm involved in the sport of boxing, boxers still make more money on the whole than MMA guys.

Also, I don't know where you're from but what I'll say about no young big name boxers is that many people in the US haven't a clue on what goes on in boxing in other countries. There is a ton of talent fighting in Russia, the former Soviet Republic, Germany, the UK, and Japan that unless you're a hard core fan, even in boxing's heyday you wouldn't have heard of. That said, this is part of the problem; the US market is considered the market to make the big money. It's not always true but for the most part it is.

Take the rather boring Chris John. Huge star in his country, but in the US, no body cared about him because his fights were never televised in the US and he wasn't brought out and given to the public for them to latch on to. Plus he's Indonesian which makes it even more difficult. He made $200-$250K a fight IN INDONESIA! Now this is good money there, big money. But he's a huge star there. He came to the US and made exactly the same dough. Why come to the US then? It doesn't make good business sense if you can simply fight at home and make the same money. Make the other guy travel. But I digress...

Miguel Cotto, Saul Alvarez, Sergio Martinez, Joe Calzaghe and quite a few others all make a million-two million a fight, not including endorsements or PPV, and they're not heavyweights. Haye and Chisora are a step below the elite level now and both are making in the neighborhood of a million and a half a fight for their fight not including endorsements and sponsors.

I know of a couple of British and European champions who were making $300-$400K and most regularly make $200K just for defending their regional titles. I believe Bernard Dunne, who was only 122lbs, made something like a half a million for his world title defense with Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym in Ireland.

The thing with boxing, and most people forget this, is it's a sport for the poor. So nationalities who have less opportunity and who are at the time in the middle of bad economic times tend to shine. Right now Russians are more and more a force and they are doing well in their fights, financially speaking.

So while boxers fighting in the US may not be earning as much as a group as they once did, boxing is still extremely popular and a huge money maker outside of the country. BTW - PPV in Thailand is largely free, as it is in the PI and Indonesia. Lots of countries don't pay PPV and this is where the shortfall can be made in the future. $20 PPV's aren't going to happen. At least not if I'm involved in the negotiations they're not.

One issue in the US right now is that many Black and White kids aren't taking up the sport like in the past. US boxing is becoming pro Mexican and Hispanic which hasn't caught on outside of their communities just yet. If the US can get a Hispanic heavyweight to compete with European/Russian guys, it could really boost the sport here. We like heavyweights... that's where the nation, including woman tune in. Woman did the long ball and the big punch. They don't get real excited watching men shorter than themselves.

You will need to change the word average, the correct word is peanuts compare to top boxers(mayweather, pacquiao, de la oya) but the average make about the same. See my previous post for proof.

There is nothing to fight about, if you like boxing, you still can watch MMA, there is a lot of boxing in MMA too. If you like karate, kick boxing, judo, wresting, jiu jitsu or Muay tai you still can watch MMA, but then you wouldnt be interesting in boxing. If you want to learn self deffense, in case you are in a street fight MMA will help, boxing could help but not always. Both are about the same thing, but MMA require a lot more skills and strategy, because you need all the skills and knowledge of a boxer and all the other disciplines. There are people for every thing, even boxing, marathon and baseball.
