"The latest drop is the result of decreased bitcoin hash rate, or the network’s processing power, which in turn is caused by bitcoin’s recent price crash.Overall, a drop in bitcoin mining difficulty signals that some miners have exited the race to mine bitcoins."

In April, the rate at which new bitcoins are assigned to miners -- basically, how they get paid -- is gonna get cut in half. Fees when we move BTC will have to rise to make up for the shortfall, but the tech guys are divided about whether our fees will go up only a little, by some, or by a lot. So fingers crossed, I guess.
