Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Thursday, 6/26/08

Starting Sunday (June 1), we will start a new June Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $200 account at DSI, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 DSI account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

    *IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at DSI prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their Diamond Sports International account ID to SBRforum Staff

    1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

    2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

    3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

    4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

    5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

    6. And here’s the fine print:

    • Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
    • One entry per home and computer.
    • Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
    • Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
    • Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-leaders lose.
    • All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
    • SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

    Baltimore Orioles + 156

Orioles players Scott, Millar and Payton have hit well against Marquis through their careers and I expect them to bounce back and beat Cubs that are missing Soriano, Johnson and Fukudome. This game has over written on it all over the place so the Orioles have a good chance to win in another shootout with the Cubs.

Well my fellow handicappers, with only 5 days to go and my minimum 20 game requirement fulfilled. I'm going to sit back with this 4 unit lead and see if I will be forced to pick again. If no one puts on the pressure, I'm more then likely finished in this contest. Goodluck.

GIANTS +150: Cain has five Quality Starts in his last six outings, as he appears to have recovered his fine form of last year when he was arguably the unluckiest pitcher in baseball. He has a nice 2.95 ERA and an excellent 1.03 WHIP in his last three starts. Cain is facing an Indians offense that has scored just six runs in the last three games including a total of three runs in the first two games of this series. Now Lee is great no doubt, but if you only look at the last three starts for each of these pitchers, Lee actually has the higher WHIP (1.23), and his ERA is not significantly better (2.41) than Cain over this span. So at this price, I feel that the Giants are worth an investment to get the upset and record the series sweep.

I hate going against my A's here, but Harden has struggled in days games. He has pitched 14 innings giving up 8 runs.

Phil +164 : Hoping the Phillies bats have awoken, Harden is tough but the A's bats have been quiet.

Maholm was extremely efficient in his last outing against the Blue Jays. It took him only 99 pitches and seven innings to notch his fifth win of the year. He is 4-1 at PNC Park this season.

Mussina threw eight innings against the Reds on Friday, but it wasn't enough as he picked up his first loss in exactly one month.

Cain has pitched well of late, and Giants have won the first two of this series.

Giants *150. Just got home and the best opportunity to make up some ground -- (plus I'm from the Bay Area).

Gotta stick with my home town boys here.
Going for the sweep against Lee's Indians.
Cain helps his teamates to stay upbeat, for their upcoming "Battle of the Bay" series this weekend against their cross town rivals, da A's!
