Philadelphia Phillies +136 Randy Johnson is getting old and his stuff is not what it use to be and the phillies bats are hot, so I will ride with them.
Oakland's bats have been struggling as of late, and this is always a close matchup between these two teams. Duchscherer's ERA against the Orioles is 5.40, and Burress' ERA against the Athletics is 1.50, with a WHIP of 1.00. The A's have also struggled a little against LHP this season.
919 Cleveland Indians +115 The Indians have a solid line-up and should be able to get a few runs out of Pettite again. Carmona is solid and very capable of pitching a gem. 2 or 3 runs could win this game for the Indians.
Phillies +136
The Phillies are hitting the ball and are winning. They beat the D'Backs yesterday 11-4, and they are a +136 dog today, with no mismatch between the pitchers? Obvious value there, IMO. The Elderly Unit just doesn't have much slider anymore, and his fastball is not so fast. He was terrible Wednesday: 9 hits and 6 runs in 4 innings. I think the snakes will lose 3 in a row for the 1st time this season, marking the official end of their over-their-heads 2008 start.
PHIL + 1.36
I need to do some catching up in this contest, so I'll go with the biggest dog on my list. PHIL 4-1 their last 5 and have 28 runs in that stretch. Eaton, while not being spectacular, has jept them in games and they are 4-2 in his starts. Randy Johnson, on the other hand, doesn't have the fastball of old anymore.
w-l streaks and hitting avgs in different directions. Chicago has to deal with distraction of coming home after being swept by Toronto. Blackburn pitching decently . . .
lost baltimore last night in my 1st pick in contest as oakland live up to stats of having a hard time against left handers, but baltimore could only manage 1 run.
tonight like san diego + 122 over atlanta as I think they have big edge in starting pitching here. joung has had one bad outing in 6 starts giving up 7 runs to Dodgers in 3+ innings. other 5 starts he has given up 1,2,2,1,2 runs.
Jurrens has done well this year so far but i'm not sure it warrants him being this big of a fav vs Young. If this game were played earlier this year I'd think SD would have been the favorite - or close to it.
PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES +136: Poor Randy Johnson is getting dumped on in this thread, and I think I will pile on. LOL
More importantly, the Philadelphia bats are finally waking up, and I think they offer great value at this price. Also, Eaton pitched well the last time he started in Arizona last year, allowing three runs in seven innings in an unlucky 3-2 loss. He should get better run support tonight unless Johnson somehow turns back the clock.
Phillies - Randy Johnson is old and not as consistent as he used to be. Phily has been playing great lately, and Eaton should hold down the D-bags who have been slowing down after their great start this season.
Adenhart couldn't throw a strike to save his life last week. However, his command wasn't a major concern in the minors, and he should settle down in his second big-league start. Santana's gem last night left the Halos' pen in great shape, and even without Figgins and Kendrick, the Angels should have some success against Bannister, who's had his own struggles over his L3.
Believe it or not Sidney Ponson had a pretty decent outing last time. He gave up one run in 8 innings. The game prior he only gave up one run to the Twins before the defense and bullpen imploded on him. A couple of ugly stats are the Rangers have lost 9 of 11 road games, and Batista has a 9.00 ERA at Safeco. So I'll take Sidney and see what happens.
The Mets will be looking to rebound from the loss last night going against a righty in which NY can load up all the power that they have with left hand batters. Figueroa is on the mound for the Mets and I don't see LA getting enough runs to win.
Duchscherer has a low ERA but he still had 5 unearned runs in his last game. Brian Burress is a top notch pitcher as long as he doesn't play the Tampa Bay Rays. They are playing Oakland so we don't have to worry about it.
