    Why do you chose to bet 1.25 units? What does the quarter unit do?

    I always size the bet so that the payoff is 2 units. That way you are betting more with shorter odds and less with longer odds. I just picked 2 units, you could use any number of units you like. Just take N / odds to get the number of units you want to bet.

    For example if the odds were +200 I would bet 1 unit, +125 I would bet 1.65 units. Etc. It is not a good idea to flat bet dogs. The shorter odds win more than the longer odds.
