Ok the last time I tried betting the Cardinals on the RL Carpenter let me down against the Cubs. I have more faith in Wainwright in this game however to get me a win.
The St Louis Cardinals will be taking on the Milwaukee Brewers in this game on Wednesday afternoon for game 2 of the series. The Brewers took the first game of this series by a score of 3-2 in a game where the Brewers scored runs off costly errors by 3B Felipe Lopez. He botched 2 groundballs that both let runners on and allowed them to score as well. Although the defense did let start Jamie Garcia down, the offense is what cost the Cardinals the game last night in my opinion. They had many key chances in the game with runners on, and couldn't get the big hit to win this game. They shouldn't need too many runs in this game however, with their ace pitching on Wednesday. The Cards are currently listed as -240 favorites, and -120 RL favorites for Wednesday afternoon against the Brewers, with the run total being set at 7.5 runs.
Adam Wainwright will be pitching for the Cardinals on Wednesday afternoon, and there are so many stellar statistics for this game your head will spin. To start off, Wainwright's overall ERA is at 1.99 with a disgusting 0.97 WHIP. Those numbers get even better when he pitches during the day, where he has a 1.30 ERA and a 9-0 record. They dip even lower when he pitches at home, where he has a 1.22 ERA and an 11-0 record. In his career, he has a 7-3 record against the Brew Crew, with an ERA of 1.94. He has already pitched against the Brewers twice this year, pitching 2 complete games and only surrendering 1 run in those 2 complete games. To top it all off, the top 6 hitters in the Brewer lineup (Braun, Fielder, Hart, Weeks, McGhee, and Escobar) are hitting a combined .189 off of Wainwright for their career. Bottom line is Wainwright has proven himself against these hitters and I would be shocked if they have much success at all against him. On the other side Randy Wolf will be pitching for the Milwaukee Brewers. He has mediocre numbers for this year, sporting a 4.86 ERA overall with a 1.52 WHIP. His numbers are even worse on the road this year, where his ERA balloons to 5.18 and his WHIP moves to 1.51. The Cardinals have also been hitting lefties well this year, and have been hitting better at home all year.
I expect the Brewers to get shut down on Wednesday afternoon, as they did not hit that well on Tuesday night to begin with. Facing the Cy Young contender shouldn't help them any either. The Cardinals should be able to get some runs in this game, as Pujols have been absolutely on fire of late, hitting home runs in 7 of his last 13 games. Coming off a loss, the Cardinals should respond well with a big win. Play the Cardinals RL on Wednesday afternoon against the Brewers at -120.
