    Mlb thursday

    EARLY GAME

The rookie, John Ely will take the hill for the Dodgers. Ely is looking to bounce back from his last two starts as he yeilded four runs in five inning in each o his last two starts, But posted a 1.80 Era in the prior starts. Ely owns a 3-3 record overall with a 3.38 ERA. Los Angeles has won 6 of his 9 games, dispite hi 0-1 record in his last 3 starts. The Dodgers have won 2 of Ely's last 3 trips to the hill. However, the road has not been kind to the rookie where he is 1-2 but has maintain an ERA of 3.72 ERA. The Dodgers have had great success against the Reds in the past posting an 8-3 record in the last 11 meetings in Cincinnati and 36-16 overall in the last 52 games.
Bronson Arroyo will counter for the Reds. Arroyo hopes he to can bounce back from from his rough otings and try to avoind a sweep at home. The Veteran riht-hander has gone 0-1 with a 6.52 ERA in his last three starts after winning four consecutive starts and playing against the Dodgers won't be an easy bounce back task as Arroyo has had major problems with this team in his career posting a 1-4 lifetime record with a 4.67 ERA in nine career starts against LA. Lney is 8-17 against Arroyo while Ethier has 7 hits in 19 at bats versus Arroyo. Both have homered off the right-hander. The Dodgers will take advantage of the struggling Arroyo. Dispit Ely's stuggles to get wins his iisue is more of a run support issue than an ERA issue. The Dodgers are 29-9 against the Reds since thestart of 05 season. LA should get the win against Arroyo and the Reds and get the sweep.

    LOS ANGELES DODGERS -101

Though the red Sox are not playing for a championshio today, they have gien Boston fans plenty to cheer about recently. They've won four out of five and 20 out of 28, including a 6-2 victory over the D-Backs on Wednesday. It was the fifth time in six games they scored at least six runs, and they are three games behind division co leaders New York and Tampa Bay.Boston will go for their first sweep since the May series of Tampa Bay. The red Sox will send John Lackey to the hill. Lackey is 2-0 in his previous three trips to the hill posting a 3.60 ERA. Overall the right-hander is having a decent year on the hill holding a 7-3 record on the season supported by a 4.54 ERA. Lackey made his debut start against the Diamondbacks last year giving up one unearned run in7 innings of a 2-1 win. He has been unstoppable at home posting a 5-1 record with an ERA slightly elevated at 5.10. Boston has won 5 of his 7 starts at Fenway this year.
Dan Haren will counter for the D-Backs in hopes to prevent a sweep by Boston. He pitched well in his last start against the Cardinals on Saturday, allowing two runs and fanning nine batters in a 7-2 win for Arizona. haren is also 2-0 in his last 3 starts posting an impessive ERA just over 2.00, But has dropped 4 of his last 6 road starts posting a 2-2 record with a 4.31 ERA. The right-hander is 2 and 3 with a 2.65 ERA in 6 career starts against the Red Sox. He is 2-0 with a 1.25 ERA in the last 3 meetings. Yeah, Haren has struggled on the road this year, But he is pitching well right now and has shown success recently against the Red Sox. Haren should be able to handle the Red Sox against Lackey, who has the wins but allows too many runs as shown in his ERA.

    GAME 4
Andy Pettitte will take the hill for New York. he is entering this meeting in superb fashion, going 3-0 with a 2.10 ERA in his last four outigs. Pettitte looks to continue his success against the Ohillies when he will try to take the three game interleague deries at home. the left-hander hasn't faced Philadelohis since winning game 6 of the World Series. Pettitte beat the Phillies twice in the series dispite a 5.40 ERA. he's 4-0 with a 3.11 ERA in his last 6 starts against them, including the post season. Pettitte has been one of the most dominant pitchers on the hill right now posting an 8-1 record overall with a 2.4 ERA. The Yankees have won 10 of his 12 starts this year and 7 of his eight starts at Yankee Stadium. Lifetime Pettitte is 2-2 with a 3.67 ERA in 7 apperances against the Phillies.
Kyle Kendicks will e the opposing pitcherfor the Phillies. Kendricks will get his first career start against the Yankees after being pushed back a day in the rotation due to matchup issues. The riht-hander also pitched in releif during Friday's 12-2 loss at Boston, yeilding two hits in two scoreless innings, but his last three starts have been quality starts posting an ERA of 3.00 dispite have onlt one win to show for it. Lendricks has allowed 2 runs or less in 3 of his last 5 road starts dispite the Phillies dropping four of his starts n the road, and all of his loses, in which he pitched well where due to run support issues, with Kindricks never facing the Yankees before it should allow Philadelphia to get Pettitte for a few, while Kindricks holds the Yankess at bay. This is sort of a long shot but +200 for a decent team is hard to pass up. especially with a potential pitcher on the hill who is pitching well.

    GAME 3
Tim hudson gets the call for the Braves. Since joining the Braves Hudson hasn't has much luck with interleague opponenets posting a 1-12 record with a 6.78 ERA in 15 interleague starts, but it has been a different outcome against the Rays where Hudson has enjoyed plenty of success against Tampa Bay posting a 6-1 record with a 2.85 ERA in 10 starts against them, But his last outing against the Rays was in 04 during his career in Oakland. Hudson did pitch well against the twins on Friday, giving up two runs over a season high tying eight inning, but the interleague luck plagued him once again as he fell short ina 2-1 loss. The right-hander has allowed 2 runs or less in 8 of his last 10 starts. the Braves have lost his last 2 starts, but both games have been on the road. It has been a different game at Turner Feild for Hudson where he holds a 3-1 record with a 2.02 ERA. Hudson overall is having a great season posting a 6-2 record with a 2.43 ERA.
James Shelds will counter Hudson in this interleague matchup for the Rays. Facing the Braves for the first time in his career, the right-hander will try to avoid losing five consecutive starts for the first time in his career. He allowed a career-high tying 10 runs off nine hits in a season low 3 1/3 innings of Friday's 14-9 loss to Florida. The right -hander is 0-3 with a 11.49 ERA in his last 3 tarts, but like the Rays on the road has had better success. Sheilds is 4-2 on the road this season with a 3.43 ERA. Tampa Bay has won 4 of his 6 road starts. Sheilds has allowed 2 runs or less in 3 of his last 5 road starts, but Sheilds will have to contened with some hot hitters for Atlanta. Martin Prado is 11 or 19 in his last four games and batting .339 and Try Glaus is batting .329 with seven homers and 24 RBIS over his last 21 games, sice May 1st, but has been held in chack with Sheilds as he is 0-7 lifetime at plate. Atlanta has won 10 of 11 at Turner Feild and has won 39 consecutive games when scoring at kast 5 runs. Sheilds does do well on the road but, The Braves should handle Sheilds during his strugglin times.
