Yankees (35-22) @ Orioles (16-41)
7-1, 2.54 ERA @ 0-6, 4.29 ERA
Hughes sliced through the Orioles' order the last time he faced them, holding Baltimore to one run on six hits in seven innings. He also struck out seven. Hughes has lasted seven innings in five of his past seven starts, and he's recovered from that two-start blip against the Red Sox and the Mets. He has thrown a few more curveballs the last two times out, which has enabled him to finish off batters more easily. This will already be Hughes' third start against the O's this season, and he's fared well in each of the first two. He's given up two runs on eight hits in 12 2/3 vs. Baltimore, with a 1-0 record.
Still searching for his first win of the season, the Orioles right-hander labored through his worst start of the season against New York on Thursday. He gave up two runs in the first inning, including one on a balk after losing his footing on a delivery. Two homers and four runs later he left the game with just 5 2/3 innings under his belt. The season-high six earned runs came on 10 hits and four walks, tying season highs in those categories as well. Millwood is 2-5 lifetime in 11 starts against the Yankees with a 5.15 ERA.
