The padres will head to the Bay area in hopes of performing the same way thy did a few weeks ago as they swept the Giants at Petco Park. Barry Zito will start for the Giants. The left-hander is off to his best start of his career posting a 5-0 record thus far in the season with a 1.49 era. Zito has won 5 straight decisions for the first time since a 6 game winning streak from May 17- June 16th of 06. The former Cy Young Winner was at it again as he threw 7 innings giving up 1 earned run off 7 hits with 4ks. Zito has a 501 TRBS in his 6starts this season and has allowed his opponents a limited .182 Bavrg. The Padres have given Zito many problems in the past as he is 0-4 with a 5.63 era in his last 7 match-ups with San Diego.
San Diego will counter with Wade LaBlanc who has also started off having a great season posting a 2-0 record with a 1.116 era. He was called up from triple-A to replace the injured Chris Young and has quickly emerged as one of the top pitchers in the Padrs line-up. San Diego as won all of his starts this season. The left-hander got a no decision in his last game against Colorado giving up only 2 runs in 6 innings in a 3-2 victory. LaBlanc entered this season with 4 wins in 13 starts with 2 of those wins coming off the Giants. He has went 7 innings in both starts giving up 2 runs in one start and 7 inning shut-out in the other. The Giants hae a combined 6 hits of LeBlanc in his 2 starts. Zito has only given up 7 runs in his 5 starts and LaBlanc has allowed 3 runs in his 4 starts. Tampa Bay offense has been on oft best in the majors through-out their scorching start, But their bats are the main resaon for their 3 game losing streak. Jeff Neiman will get the start for the Rays in hoping to snap their longest losing streak of the season at 3. Neimann won 13 games as a rookie last year and has started off even better this year posting a 2-0 record overall in his first 6 games with a 4-2 TRBS. The Rays have won 2 of Neimann's last 3 starts with a 1.71 era. His success has carried over to his road apperances where the right-hander has a 2-0 record. The Rays has won all 3 of Neimanns last 3 road starts. He faced Anaheim only twice in his rookie year, last year and gave up 4 runs off 7 hits in both starts.
Scott Kazmir will face his old team for the first time. Kazir has had many issues thus far as his slider has plagued him during his shaky start of the season. Kazmir has walked 4 batters in each of his last 3 starts. Overall the left-hander has a 2-2 wit a 7.71 era. His last start was a disaster as kazmir was shelled by Boston giving up 7 runs off 7 hits in just 4.1 innings. But Anaheim has won both of his home starts this season as Kazmir is 2-0 at Angels Stadium but with an era of almost 5.00. The Angels are 3-8 in their last 11 games buthas had great success with the Rays in the past posting a 54-24 record in the last 34 meetings and are 14-1 i the last 15 games at Angles Atadium since 06. But Tampa Bay should still hold the upper hand as the scouting report for Kazmir will be attacked in this situation as most teams do when they face an old teammates. They will expose Kazmir's struggles and use them in this match-up. Rays win.
