This kinda surprises me really. Most players on teams that are out of the race usually shuts it down so they can enjoy there off season. It's not like he's playing for a new contract either.

Vernon Wells to have cyst removed from shoulder

Toronto Blue Jays center fielder Vernon Wells will have surgery on his left shoulder after the season ends to have a cyst removed, according to sources.

The cyst has been present for some time. The Blue Jays were aware of it as Wells signed a seven-year, $126 million deal after last season, following Wells' strong season of 2006, when he hit .303 with 32 homers and 106 RBIs.

Wells has labored with his offense this year, hitting .251 with 16 homers and 79 RBIs, and a .306 on-base percentage.

It is expected that Wells will be fully recovered for the start of spring training next year.
