Bobby Kielty is back in the major leagues

This could actually be a solid pickup for the Red Sox IMO. The guy does seem to turn it up a notch in the second half of the season.

Red Sox purchase contract of OF Kielty

BOSTON (Ticker) -- Bobby Kielty is back in the major leagues.

The Boston Red Sox on Saturday purchased the contract of Kielty, who was released by the Oakland Athletics on July 31, from Class AAA Pawtucket.

The 31-year-old Kielty, who missed the majority of spring training with torn cartilage in his left knee, began the season with Oakland but was placed on the disabled list on May 1 with a calf injury. He was activated on July 8 and went 3-for-12 in four games before being designated for assignment on July 21.

In 13 games with the Athletics this season, Kielty batted .200 (7-for-35) with three RBI. The switch hitter is a career .255 hitter with 52 home runs and 244 RBI in 579 contests with Minnesota, Toronto and Oakland.

To make room on the roster, the Red Sox optioned outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury to Pawtucket. The 23-year-old was recalled Friday, when he went 0-for-3 with a walk in Boston's 7-5 loss to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the second game of a doubleheader.

In seven games with the Red Sox this season, Ellsbury has gone 6-for-19 (.316) with one RBI.
