Lefty reliever Rincon heading to Cardinals
St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - The St. Louis Cardinals signed pitcher Ricardo Rincon on Tuesday to a two-year contract pending a physical.

Rincon went 1-1 with a 4.34 ERA in 67 games last season with the Oakland Athletics.

The 35-year-old southpaw spent the last four seasons with the A's after a mid- season trade from the Indians in 2002.

"Rincon has been one of the premier left-handed set-up men in the American League the last couple of years and someone we are very excited to sign," said Cardinals Senior Vice President and General Manager Walt Jocketty.

The nine-year veteran is 21-24 with 21 saves and a 3.53 ERA in 552 appearances with Pittsburgh, Cleveland and the A's. He has allowed only 78 of 407 (19.2%) of inherited runners to score throughout his career, the lowest percentage in the majors since 1974.
