    Curious' Friday plays

There are a lot of plays here, so I will group them by "bet large" and "bet small"
    bet large:
Cincinatti / Milwaukee OVER 9.5 (LOL...this is too easy)
    St Louis ML
St Louis / Cubs OVER if the total is 9.5 or less
    Mets / Nationals OVER 8.5
    Ariz ML
Tampa Bay / Cleveland UNDER 10.5 (another no brainer)

    bet small:
    San Diego ML
San Diego / Houston OVER 7.5 (this is not a very strong play, bet small or avoid)
    Pittsburgh ML
    Pittsburgh / Philadelphia OVER 9
    FL / SF OVER 9.5
    FL ML
    Balt / Toronto UNDER 9
    Ariz Atl OVER 8.5

    Indians -118 .

These guys have screwed me over so many times but going with them again tonight.

NB. Good idea AC about keeping all picks in just the one thread

Phillies +130 - Sure the Pirates have the better starter, but the Phillies are better in every other phase of the game and they are still in the hunt for the NL East title.

Orioles +162 - This is Burnett's second start back from injury, making him vulnerable, an he was not that great the last time he faced the O's. allowing four earned in six innings. Olsen is so-so, but this is his first time facing the Jays, so he should do OK.

Reds +114 - Milwaukee is doing a Tom Petty (Free Falling), and the Reds have won four of the last five head-to-head.

Royals +102 - Meyer is nothing special, and he already has a history of shoulder problems in the minors. Bannister would be a big winner if he played for a better team. Oh, and KC is 7-2 last nine meetings here in Oakland.

3* Red Sox +112 (Game 1): Wrong team favored. John Lackey's 1-5 with a 5.75 ERA, 1.86 WHIP and .326 BAA in his career against Boston, and 1-3, 6.68, 1.94, .343 in his career at Fenway. Manny and Ortiz are a combined 17/44 (.386) with 5 HR and 18 RBI against Lackey, and the Halos are just 4-12 in their last 16 games at Fenway. At this price there would be value with the Sox with an ordinary pitch on the hill, and Clay Buchholz, in my opinion the premier pitching prospect in baseball, is no ordinary pitcher. Buchholz's combined numbers in the minors this season between AA Portland and AAA Pawtucket: 8-3, 2.15 ERA, 117 IP, 78 H, 164 K. I've seen him pitch on several occasions, and his stuff is comparable to Lincecum; mid-high 90s fastball, sharp 12:6 curveball and a changeup that may very well be his best and most effective pitch.

1* Braves +140: Brandon Webb's current 30-inning scoreless streak is impressive, but the streak has only inflated this line, adding to the value with Atlanta as a substantial home dog. Webb's last four games have come against the Marlins, Padres, Nationals and a struggling LAD offense, all teams that are inferior offensively to the Braves. Cormier's struggled mightily, but against a mediocre Arizona offense that's only hitting .237 on the road, he's more than capable of pitching well and keeping the game competitive.

1* Astros +195: With their offense, SD shouldn't be laying this much wood, even with Peavy on the hill. Woody Williams has pitched better of late, and I'll take my chances with the Stros at this generous price.

1* Mariners Team Total OVER 5 -110: Jose Contreras has been impressive in his 2 bullpen outings since being removed from the rotation, but for the better part of the last 2 months he's been the worst pitcher in baseball. In his last 6 starts, Contreras is 0-6 with a 12.09 ERA. In that span, he's allowed 57 H in 32 IP and given up fewer than 6 runs once (5 against the O's on 7/15).

1* Brewers -122: Cheap price for the Brewers at home. Milwaukee's struggling, but they're still one of the best home teams in the league, while Cincy's one of the worst road teams. Suppan's been much better at home (5-2, 3.91), and Milwaukee has a significant bullpen advantage.

In an attempt to unite the forum, I applaud your efforts AC.

    Now lets win some money!

    I think I like NYM(-), NYM/WAS UNDER 9, LAD (-), and ATL(+).

Leaning toward HOU/SD over, HOU(+), and TB/CLE under.

Will probably stay away from the totals tonight, and go with the 4 sides.

    GL to all.

Tonite I'm going with a couple power starters...bullpens have been shakey lately for almost everyone...and some overs
    SD and Peavy
    HOU/SD over 7
    AZ and Webb
    AZ/ATL over 8 1/2
    LAA/BOS over 9 1/2 game 2
    COL/LAD over 9

and two teams that are in the playoff race and are better then their oppponents who are not
    CLE
    PHI

    good luck all

Like that TEX play better than BAL. I watched that Olson kid pitch last weekend vs. BOS and he couldn't find the plate. Couple that with the Jays ability to hit lefties and I'll be staying clear of either side. Good fortune to ya though.

Side I will probably take tonight is CLE at -120. Indians have won 12 of last 13 vs. TB and my gas can Edwin Jackson is surely due to flare up after a string of three brilliant starts. Looking hard at the over in LAA-BOS. Santana has been a masterful road over most of the season and Beckett's home starts have trended that way.
