    Not that hard to figure out:

    MItchell stays in the game so he can come back to pitch in long relief, if the game goes beyod the 10th inning.

    Aroldis Chapman pitches the tenth, but only the tenth, because they want to keep his pitch count minimal, so he can be available the next game.
    It's a good strategy, considering the Yankees have used up their bullpen.

    but I'll argue that they had bases loaded with one ou in the bottom of the tenth that costed them the game.

    They had 2 outs to move a winning run 90 feet. That's why they lost.
