The Tigers traded Mike Maroth to the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday, in order to clear room on the active roster for the return of Kenny Rogers.
It's still unclear who Detroit has received in return.
Maroth, a 29-year-old left-hander, was 5-2 with a 5.06 ERA this season.
In what would be his final start with the Tigers, he allowed four earned runs in five innings -- and contributed a double -- in a victory over Washington on Monday night.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting the Cardinals will send Detroit players to be named later in this deal.
In an interview with WDFN radio, Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander shared his thoughts on the trade.
"It's sad, but it's the business of baseball. It's a situation where he was here for the rough times and he was excited to see things turned around. Hopefully, it'll end up being the best for him," he said.
