Oakland's Chad Gaudin deserves better than his 1-1 record, as he has a stingy 2.54 ERA and has allowed just eight earned runs on 20 hits in 28.1 innings. The Under is 5-0 in his five starts. Boston’s Josh Beckett has very similar numbers with a 2.48 ERA, having allowed nine earned runs in 32.2 innings with an excellent 28/7 strikeout/walk ratio.
The Under was cruising at 4-2 in the 9th inning between these teams last night when Boston closer Jonathan Papelbon blew his first save in nine chances, allowing an unlikely opposite field homer to Travis Buck. That will not happen again tonight, and with both teams hitting .243 or less in their last seven games, the Under looks like solid choice.
