    Side with Seattle vs Chicago

With the White Sox struggling on offense, especially on the road, make your play tonight on the Seattle Mariners and Jarrod Washburn at home.

The White Sox are struggling offensively with a .225 batting average on the season which is dead last in all of baseball. They are even worse against left-handed pitching, hitting only .197 on the season. During their recent homestand, Chicago averaged a mere 2.8 rpg and their 4.1 rpg average is third worst in the American League.

Seattle has won five of its last six games after snapping a six-game losing skid as both the offense and pitching have picked things up. The Mariners have won 17 of the last 25 meetings in Seattle. Jarrod Washburn is coming off his strongest performance of the season, a three-hit shutout at Oakland, and returns home where he has been inconsistent to start the season.

Two of his three outings have been quality starts and he looks to match that against the White Sox who he defeated last season in his only start against them. Washburn has a 2.96 ERA on the season and an even more impressive 1.06 WHIP. He shut down a team that couldn’t hit lefties last time and will do it again here.

The White sox counter with Javier Vazquez who has yet to lose while Chicago has gone a perfect 4-0 in his starts on the season. He has been pitching great at home but his two road starts were below average. He has a 5.56 ERA and 1.68 WHIP away from Chicago and it’s no surprise as he struggled on the road last season as well, going 4-8 with a 4.96 ERA in 16 starts. He has been fortunate to receive the best run support of the staff and has gotten seven rpg in his last three outings but that ends on Tuesday.

The Mariners fall into a solid situation based on the Chicago offense despite the pitching success. Play against all underdogs that are averaging 4.2 rpg and starting a pitcher who allows 5.5 hits per game or less going against a team with a solid bullpen whose ERA is 3.75 or less on the season. This situation is 63-15 against the moneyline (80.8 percent) since 1997 with the average run differential being +three rpg in those 78 games.

Seattle keeps up its solid run with an opening game win on Tuesday. Play Seattle for one unit.

    Play: Mariners -117

I agree with your play Mr. Fargo. I too like the M's in this spot.
